EK log book certification
 
EK now keeping tabs on who's getting their log book certified whether for an overseas licence renewal or something else.....

What would happen if the entire pilot group went in for a check on hours and a stamp, regardless if you need it or not?

I don't think anybody should be concerned about EK keeping tabs on this sort of thing. What are they going to do?

If anything it should be a badge of honour.

Interesting that at an RTGS wash-up recently, the management position remains that "recruitment are doing a great job..they're getting 60 new pilots a month" and resignations are "3%..maybe peaking up to 3.5%" (10 a month?)

Yeah right. Informed sources say we're losing 1 pilot a day. (30 a month)

The seniority list as of 5 Nov shows 3880 pilots. That's not a lot more than 12 months ago, and certainly not growing by 50 pilots a month as the stats suggested at the RTGS imply.

What if you are going to interview and don't have a certified logbook? Half the companies I've flown for don't exist anymore and no one I knew had their logbooks signed by the company. :confused:

In the past 6 months the average number of new joiners per month has only been 24, according to my maths.

Get a stamp made with your former airlines name on it, then get someone else to sign it as true and correct as of....

I had the same issue on joining and this was discussed during the interview process, they know a lot of airlines/CAAs don't bother stamping log books.

As usual the company is talking crap again.
If they are hiring 60 pilots a month Emirates would have added 720 pilots in the half year. We all know that is not true. But that also means since our seniority list is pretty much the same in numbers in the last 6 months and we only had 60 pilots leave in the last 6 months then EK only hired 10 pilots a month. I was never a math major and my math doesn't add up but then again the company is trying to cover up their lies and mistakes and talking ****e. Own up Emirates, we are all laughing and watching you.

The change to "Breathing and holding a pilots license" has had, at least temporarily, the desired effect and they met the recruitment target in October.

The fact they didn't for the previous 10 months, delayed necessary upgrades because they couldn't release the FOs and that a lot of the new recruits will be on an increased training profile means the first half of next year is looking virtually unworkable from a training point of view.

The new SVP flight ops is inheriting a right old mess.

Selection criteria has not changed too much. The 2000hrs requirement has remained, but now it can include a combination of both jet and multi-crew heavy turboprop.

Now that's still a far cry from the "Breathing and holding a pilot licence" crap that someone above mentioned.....

It used to be 4500 hours total, with 2000 on jets above 30 (?) tons. It has changed a lot IMHO.

Guys, you might be surprised how many good pilots are still around and just did not bother about the ME. Or they had some ME Command experience(I used to work as captain with a big ME carrier) but just could not stand that place anymore.

But to be honest - European companies getting more and more ridiculous in terms and conditions. Just a few of the big players offer still decent contracts but then you are stuck there as FO for life(at least the older guys of us, me included).

To be honest, after being a long time out of the middle east and flying this and that EK(don't bother about the other 2 "great" carriers down there, brrr) becomes simply interesting again. Even if you need to start as FO, the pay is decent and normally still much more then what you get as Capt. here in Eurolandia.

The company has good standards a normally not so bad pilots(it seems to go down a bit, or I just met always overexcited EK guys on the radio, as they used "super" on EACH call they could just push through that radio, so the last guy on the frequ. would know the EK 380 is around :E).

EK is def. worth a shot.

Regarding the certification of the logbook - it's always good to be proactive and have that thing stamped in the office as often as possible. One day after bankruptcy is a day to late and stamps are normally the first thing that will disappear :).

Local authorities normally never stamp logbooks(they have no record of your flying hours, at least not most countries in Europe).

The EK requirement has gone down a lot . It's not just the hours but bear in mind that the sim has totally changed now . To be much easier . The target is 60 a month , but it takes at least 6 months for there to be an impact .
For the guys who say see EK , we caught you lying about the attrition . Do you think they give a FXxk what you think. You me and the others are all working to death while they make loads of money . Till that changes they could not care . It's capitalism .

Agree. But being squeezed out by the company is not really "EK only", that is common in many(if not most) airlines or private ops nowadays.

If you don't find an owner job on one of this shiny(at least outside) bizjets then there are just a few jobs that come to my mind where people fly not that much(and then you still find them moaning in this forum about work conditions or retirement issues :E - not pointing fingers here).

So, if that is the only EK issue then welcome to (unpleasant, I agree) reality.

Sorry to disagree. You may be "working hard" at a European or US carrier but I guarantee you are not being worked to death as many of the pilots at EK are. Many of there pilots are flying half their flights through the night. Meaning ALL night. Spoke with a pilot today who had 8 all nighters this month. This reflects Zero regard for pilot health or welfare. How often are you up from 2100 till 0700 or 1000. The radiation exposure program that EK had in place is gone, and pilots are now flying well past the limits that even EK said was safe. Sure at most airlines profits before people is the case. At EK, its a mantra.

Sure you can disagree.

But to be honest, nothing that you write really surprises me(which is sad, I agree ;)). Have seen (and flown) this 6-8days night shifts back in beautiful QR some years ago. I am sure not much has changed there.

Europe - well, depends where you end up, but such things are possible as well as with JAA things just got worse here. All the rules really just in favour of the operators and not really caring about pilots(and how important it is that fresh, fit crews operate an aircraft).

In my opinion EK just arrived there where most of us are already sitting.

But again - that is NOT just an EK thing you are speaking about. It's modern airline business.

Of course there are still this easy jobs around (but then normally the pay sucks) or you can decide to move onto a part time contract back here in Europe(not everywhere and normally you need to be in the company already for a few years).
But again, you never reach the salary of EK.

So it really depends what you want to do and how you can manage with your family and your sleep schedule.

But clearly the pilot profession has become something not very nice (in my personal opinion).
