The highest hourly pay on airlinepilotcentral has the rate of $210 an hour. Which, based on 78 credits gives $196,560. Let's assume with investments etc. you're making another $50k or so. That gives $250,000. So what does the new tax bracket mean to someone earning $250,000 per year? Federally, yes, the new Liberals are proposing a new bracket of 33% for any income earned about $200,000. So, on the $50,000 you earn above $200k, you'll now get charged $16,500 in taxes instead of $14,500, an increase of $2,000. At the same time, however, the Liberals are proposing a tax cut for any amounts of money earned between $44,701 and $89,401, there will be a tax cut from 22% to 20.5%, or $670 dollars. Combining the tax increase on the income from $200k-$250k with the tax cut on the $44-$89k means a net increase in tax for a $250,000 earner of ($2,000 - $670) $1330. So, do we pay lots of taxes as Canadians? Yup. But, does a $1330 increase in taxes on an income of $250,000 (which is in the top 1% of income earners) in Canada warrant moving to the Middle East? If you're making even more than $250,000, good for you! But the new increases only work out to an extra $40 per year on each additional $1000 that you're already paying in taxes. Do not let the recruitment team fool you with regards to the upgrade time on any fleet, especially the 777. I am a 4 year FO at EK and I am being told AT LEAST another 12-18 months before an upgrade comes my way and that was BEFORE they announced the latest round of DEC's. If you join now on any fleet, let alone the 777 you should plan for at least 6-8 years before an upgrade.

I don't think anything in my post dissed anyone. I understand the recruitment team isn't deliberately trying to fool anyone. I'm sorry that you took my post as an assault on the recruitment team. I know you are doing the best you can with what info you are given White Knight. I should have been more clear that it was assault on the info TO the recruitment team from EK. I was just giving real facts from an EK FO that is currently waiting for my "3 and a half year upgrade" as told by the recruitment team 4.5 years ago. I understand that they are trying to give the "best (current)" information and I was warning that the information that recruitment team receives from the company could (and is) obviously flawed.

Yeah well it seems like EK seems to be the best package amongst the 3 when it comes to getting the left seat on heavy metal, tax free money and a city that is 'cosmopolitan' keep in mind it all comes at a price.
EK as its a career airline so unless you intend to retire in EK time spent there won't count towards anything back home. Be ready to fly a lot , and I mean a lot not that we should complain caz thats our job but remember time is the equivalent of money , once that time is spent your not gonna get it back. It all depends on your personal circumstances and how much of a family person you are. EK was a airline I did consider for myself a few year back but looking at the overall perspective of life I decided to stick with where I am current am and I'm not making as much pay but I'm still happy. I guess everybody rocks their boat differently, all the best ! |
Best package? Yeah, don't think so. Both of the other ME airlines offer a better overall package in comparison to this place. Career airline? Wrong again. Maybe years ago but now not so much. When it comes to flying a lot? Yes, you will fly a ton and you WILL complain. And what's this statement regarding time spent here not counting towards anything back home? An hour logged here is no different than logging an hour back home or on the moon. And that is evident as many are leaving this place and heading back to home to their own major airlines and such.

Best Package - If you have a wife and kids they would be most happiest in Dubai, I don't know of any canadian airline that has a starting pay of 95k???
Career Airline - well back when I was considering applying people that joined then are still with the company and in good positions and look like they are gonna retire from EK ( but they joined when the times were good ) Time spent here won't count towards anything back home - If your trying to tell me that with your time spent at EK will give you a bump in seniority in any major canadian carrier then you clearly live in a lost world. EK was a good place to be , and still is if you know what your signing up for. Hope that clarifies your doubts Mr.cutz |

(I mean that in the traditional sense: "career" meaning flying until a retirement age such as 60 or 65.) On the other hand, working for EK can - and already has, for many - have the effect of shortening one's career by means of the cost to ones health, marriage, sanity, etc. Looked at in that light, I guess EK really still has the potential to be the last job of many people's careers. |
Income is technically tax free however if you have any ties to Canada (i.e wife that stays here, drivers license, home etc. - you can expect to be slapped with a canadian tax payment upon your return). Primary ties may be a family living in canada. Secondary ties may be bank accounts, a house that is being rented at fair market value, etc. |
