Oman Air hiring CA and FO's

I don't hear much about Oman Air on here lately, which I take as a possible good sign; I see they are recruiting for DEC on the 737. How is this outfit to work for? Curious about the progression onto the wide body after being on the narrow bodies for a few years, as well as life in Muscat.

It is a decent airline to work for. You can forget about being upgraded to a wide body as you will very low on seniority. With the present policies in place it is highly unlikely that you will move to the wide body as a captain for the next 7-8 years. For a FO who is looking for an upgrade, minimum time 6-7 years. The policies keep changing here every month with regards to upgrades of any sorts. Basically the carrot keeps moving further and further away. The company seniority list is a joke. If you are happy just coming here as a captain or an FO without expecting any upgrades...this is the place to be. The company is presently in cost cutting mode, so lots of perks here and there are taken away.
Life here is good, people are very friendly, great place to raise your kids. There are lots of outdoor activities which you can do in Muscat......... you can go trekking, camping, go out to the sea and take a dive or just go on long drives. These are my 2 cents.

Dking,

Even though I'm not then OP, thanks for your answer. I myself have been trying to find info on this company for quite a while. A few questions: Does the comoany provide housinf or a livabke housing allowance? Do they pay for or subsidize kids education? In your opinion, is an FO's salary sufficient to live there with a family as well as have money left over to save? Also what is the average length of the sectors on the 737 and what is the ratio of day to night flying for a new joiner? Do you guys fly to "warzones"? Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Best regards

Think hard

oman air pay is very similar to the other airlines in the region. Housing allowance is 600 (you have to find your own accommodation) living at the wave 2bedroom minimum is 700 -750...

Schools for kids - max three kids now attending school in oman, schools are very expensive, be prepared an increase in fees each year however oman air benefits remain the same. just to register your kids you need to pay almost 3000 per kid from your own pocket and then pay the school fees... Oman air pays their share depends on your kids age - just think you have to pay an extra 1000 from your own pocket for each kid.

Fleet transfer - FO 3yrs and 1500 hrs - cpt 3yrs and 2000hrs

Command - 2 years and 4000hrs

Staff travel... Only for yourself and parents if you are single whilst if you are married that would include your family... No friends and family tickets. To makes matters worse oman air staff tickets are more expensive then the other gulf airlines.

Schedule - lots of changes with no bidding system. Night flights to India are the norm. At the moment oman air are short of pilots.

The company are going through an expansion at the moment. Plans change every day, that includes the contract agreement. A lot changed since I joined I guess this is the worst I've seen it.

Oman is a fabulous place to raise your kids. My family loves it here.

How many days off can one expect per month? Do they hire non type rated Americans? I have 4000+ TT and 2000 jet but not in an AB or 737...

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
8 to 9 days OFF per month, lots of night turn around, mostly great people to fly with.
You need a Type rating with hours on type, there is no exception around that...

Muscat is a great place to raise kids.

Cheers

Thanks, after all the drama about the other ME carriers its refreshing to find one everyone seems happy with. If I get an AB or a 737 type I'll keep them in mind.

One more question, is there a yearly leave policy for expats of say 30-40 days?

Tried to scour the web but couldnt find any website regarding the vacancies for capt and fo in oman air. Would appreciate any lead for this.

Thinking Hard

Good Day Verga,

Could you perhaps shed some more light on Oman Air. My research says that Muscat is a nice place, however Oman Air has its moments. What are the Salaries like? Is long term employment possible, or is it a stepping stone company? When you say schools are expensive, i assume Oman Air does not pay the full amount? Are company perks descent? And lastly, do they find a house for you, or rather give you an allowance? Is it enough, or do you have to supplement it. I'm sorry for the 20 questions, its a rather big decision that i need to make. I'm sure you can appreciate the magnitude of leaving ones home with a wife and kids to begin a new chapter. I am considering the DEC position on the 737. Thank you in advance for your reply.

Cheers
