Baymac vs Athena/Api (formarlyLIPS)
Anyone got any thoughts on this subject or any hands on claim experience. It's renewal time so looking at the options.
EK 50yrs wide and 2 teenage kids There are obviously 2 questions here. Loss of license and medical top up Appreciate any input |
Baymac is comprehensive plus loss of licence
Aetna is top up LIPS is mutual fund. Second and third are tightly connected with UAE/GCAA/EK First one is stand alone and a bit expensive. My choice would be LIPS + Baymac |
Am with Baymac and LIPS(API) as well.
With kids being free with Baymac I am about at same cost as with AETNA but without the need to be APC member (which for me is an important reason as API for me is less and less tempting). As said before, if you leave EK you can keep Baymac as a stand alone (unless you are moving to the US, I believe). |
Went with Aetna over Baymac for the simple reason that the ability to maintain coverage with Baymac, you are require to hold a current pilots license. My thoughts were that I needed coverage long into my golden years after my flying career is over, or taken from me by my health. Having to maintain an APC membership in my retirement is a bit of a pain, but at least it is unconditional.
My take, stand to be corrected |
I went to one of the Baymac "chats".
You only have to be a current, medically licensed pilot on the day you join. You can cease flying the next day. Baymac will accept you to age 75, further by discussion/negotiation. If you pass (or whatever phrase you choose to use), your wife can continue cover provided she was already a member. There is an annual "membership" fee, approx US$75 each at the present time. The medical cover cost increases by 5% after 65 becoming $1575 PA (IIRC). Baymac call their Loss of Licence cover Loss of Income. It's not tied to losing your medical/licence. I haven't checked this against the other companies yet but I like the difference! There is also a lump sum cover to be paid after a specified time. You choose, the sooner the payout, the more you pay for cover. Hope that helps, happy to be corrected. H-D |
The APPN for the loss of licence if you are less than 46 yo.
