EK A380 into LGW

Have I missed an announcement or have EK just done this on the quiet (Seems strange for them) but I am just on TRIPS trying to book some tickets home and notice that towards the end of April the EK15 is on the 380.
So that's 2 out of 3 gone now for us on 777 and with LHR a distant memory those of us from the South of England are soon to be devoid of trips home :(

jack schidt 16th Apr 2015 09:24

LHR, welcome to the last decade of difficulties on the A330 A340 fleet.

WhiteFly 16th Apr 2015 09:40

Its not all bad for the light twin... you did get our DME layover :O

thefoxandfirkin 16th Apr 2015 09:42

Just the way its going....

Same happened at MAN earlier this year with change in EK20. Am sure eventually it will mostly be 380s across the network. Fleet demographics have changed massively in my ten years here as the previous poster has also elluded to.

No matter what we might think the PAX do seem to prefer the 380 mostly.:hmm:

To put it into perspective, as jack mentioned, on the 330 we're still seething that you 777 guys have STOLEN our Calcutta layover!

I notice we still have the turnaround...luckily though we still have Entebbe, please God don't take that from us!

And in fairness trying to get back to the UK is an utter waste of time at the moment, every station is full all the time, while 24 hours at home is a shame to lose, you might have a chance to get home on days off (whatever they may be) or your 4 days of 'leave' now!

Fearless Leader 16th Apr 2015 12:16

I certainly heard not ONE peep of empathy, for the 330 ladies and gents, when the 777 was taking over the world.

Who's crying now?

Have you tried any other options?

Remember to LHR we have Qantas (we get J class and the MEL flight is normally lighter than SYD), BA, Virgin and Royal Brunei. All of which we get staff travel with.

Connections at AMS are really easy with KLM offering connections to most UK airports.

I have never not managed to get back home when I have needed to. Granted it can be more of a challenge with a family but EK seem to fill up first before the others. Just depends how 'creative' you wish to be with your travel planning and no - home is not in the South East before you ask!

Well the post wasn't meant as a heartfelt plea for sympathy more of a query as to why EK marketing are not blowing their usual sunshine up the A380s arse. Seems strange, although having just checked my emails I see their is a sentence about it on Grouptoday.
I understand the companies standpoint on the thing but it will always remain a shame as we lose preferred trips. Personally I don't give a monkies what flights it takes but LGW (and formally LHR) is my trip to be able to see my family, as it is for lots of my buddies so that's why this one hurts. I know the 330 guys are getting the bumest (!) of all bum deals but as my friends that endure it say they know that eventually they will find themselves in the 380 and life will be good again and they'll be looking back at the 777 as it flogs it's arse around the subcontinent with not much in the way of fond recollection of the route network.
Anyway to more important matters.........I reckon 4 weeks and no payrise!

Good advice Emma and other carriers like KLM or Lufty are more generous with upgrades for staff.

380? I have non-airline friends begging me to get Special tickets on it. And they love it "it's so quiet" etc.

EK marketing are the best in the airline business.
I wish some other departments were as customer focused.

Who gives a flying  where any fleet is flying! We are all flying way too much in one way or another! We are all in the same boat and the water fall is getting closer and closer!

halas 17th Apr 2015 16:06

What about the 615 seat two class A380 to Copenhagen?

Thats 1230 potential complaints in one shift :uhoh:

The beginning of the end!

I spent years not seeing my family...... suck it up :ugh:

Like i said I'm not after sympathy - but Caynine you should be a councillor with that kind of attitude. I'm f**$ed so you can all be f**$ ed too. Nice.
Hope I never have to fly with you - won't be a good day.

donpizmeov 23rd Apr 2015 10:51

Bunny, concentrate more on the positive things. You no longer have to pay for your uniform or job like your last mob. The water is even free now. Keeping away from those London grey skies should be the icing on the cake ( and you don't have to pay for that either).

bigdaviet 23rd Apr 2015 11:06

Turkish is another good option if Emirates is full.

You can check the 'smiley face' on my idtravel to get a rough idea of loads.

Praise Jebus 23rd Apr 2015 11:40

Think it is just seasonal as EK 346 KUL for the rest of the month is a 777, swapped around the 10th. Bit rude though Bunny that you weren't consulted eh?

Cloud Bunny 23rd Apr 2015 18:44

Huh?? Did anyone read the first post? It was a query related to why EK slipped this one in so quietly, usually there is quite a fan fare when the 380 starts a route. It seemed strange at the time. I'm not moaning!!!!
Yeah, I'm not delighted about it but there's sweet fanny Adams I can do about it so I'm not losing any sleep over it despite what seems to be the general consensus. Please, don't worry about me - I'll be okay I'm sure.

BigGeordie 23rd Apr 2015 18:55

There was probably no fanfare because it isn't a new route for the 380. Plenty of new routes coming up no doubt so they can afford a bit of a rest for the monster that is the EK PR machine.
