EK Airbus parked in NBO a while.

Anybody know what happened to the EK A343 that's parked in NBO couple of days now? Heard rumours of a flameout and a subsequent diversion into HKJK.

helen-damnation 14th Dec 2014 17:08

Nothing on the Aviation Herald website.

The only thing I could find was Incident: Emirates B773 at Singapore on Dec 6th 2014, rejected takeoff due to engine failure

Strange. From the grapevine, the bird was ex LUN and has been sitting on ground for the last three days.:hmm:

I saw it there yesterday parked in an area not on the chart, adjacent to F off of 06. Doors 2 and 3 were open on the right side and it looked like engine 3's covers were raised. I thought it was being scrapped haha.

Eng #3 Seized up out of Lusaka to Dubai. Crew was asked to fly it to Dubai but elected to go to HKJK instead.

Hardly surprising considering the "maintenance" being carried out on the 330/340 fleet these days. They're just lucky it didn't happen out of Kabul !!!

fatbus 15th Dec 2014 02:54

Do elaborate on the maintenance on the 330/340!

Engine 3 Failure

Confirmed from reliable source. Engine 3 failure passing FL230. They declared a mayday which was later downgraded to a PAN. They returned to LUN VOR to hold and after talking to VPNC went to NBO. Fuel Jettisoned....blah blah blah.

sheiken around 16th Dec 2014 06:53

Ask your source about the subsequent failure of engine 1 when the power runs were being done after engine 3 was replaced. FACT

fatbus..instead of attempting to be pompous and condescending, just ask any of the 330/340 (in particular the 340) pilots about the state of the aircraft - maintenance wise. Not pointing fingers at the maintenance department, per se, as they are extremely overworked and understaffed.

Lets face it, these aircraft are departing the premises soon. If I need to explain it to you, then perhaps you really are too aloof to actually comprehend what is going on reference the 330/340 fleet - and I won't be the one to explain it to you.

Agreed!:oh:

Most flights on the bus these days feel like you are walking into a LOS/LOE with all the random Mel's.....

:ok:

SOPS 16th Dec 2014 13:35

Is there any front line department theses days that is not understaffed and overworked? We must be approaching the PNR very soon. Not that the bouncy castle dwellers will notice, they will be too busy in Costa.

Not sure about the EK fuel policy but as an experienced 330/340 pilot I can say that after loosing one donk during the climb you don't have the fuel to take it all way to destination (assuming DXB with AUH/SHJ as alternate).

ADD or Sana'a would have been within reach but WTF wants to go there - so NBO sounds like a good idea to me (or why not JNB? Plenty of SAA 340s there...).

4runner 18th Dec 2014 15:14

I saw it undertow at night. It almost looked like an uncontrolled engine failure. Now....a new engine brought to Kenya and they'll try and charge you duty from a fat bellied official.

4runner 18th Dec 2014 15:15

I meant uncontained. But like I said, it was at night and there was no cowling below

fleet retirement

The A343s are with us until late 2016/early 2017. That will still leave us with 1 off A345 to play with - future undecided as yet.....

TheDarkHorse 26th Dec 2014 06:24

Coming back yesterday from DAR and heard EK763 with pressurisation issues. They elected to go to NBO.
