THY assessment - Anybody going on Nov 24th?

My assessment with THY is on Nov 24th. Looking for anybody going there on the same date.

too_much 18th Nov 2014 03:54

When did you receive the invitation? I had the standard e-mail sent to me asking for further details end of last week...,

THYFOREIGNPILOTS 18th Nov 2014 05:26

We reiterate our suggestion. If you are not desperate or retired just don't consider.
An utterly incompetent management living in a delusional world has created the condition for an implosion. The company is under the detrimental effect of too many rival political factions .Expat are the scapegoats. Management is proving incompetent by its inability to take the right decisions. Expat opportunists are at work with recruitment scams involving Irish agencies. Stay away.:=

By large the biggest concentration of delusional dick heads I have ever had the chance to deal with. I wish I could give you a realistic idea of what it feels going back to the rational world after THY.

Am NOT Sure 18th Nov 2014 14:30

Have you ever considered the possibility that most people come here asking for valuable advice on their assessments and not on the working condition

Help them out by providing them with the necessary tools first

It's pretty difficult to find an airline job these days

bob777 18th Nov 2014 16:02

Am not so Sure I personally get your point. What is the difference between info on screening and on working conditions. Aren't they part of the same deal? It may difficult for those lacking experience or skills or for you as all other airline in the ME area and many others around the world including Europe are hiring. China is paving streets with gold to get pilots so I'm not so sure you know what you are talking about.
THY has some good points..but could be much better than actually is. In fact I have to agree with foreignpilots the way they have been dealing with expat is questionable to say the least.

malchogancho 18th Nov 2014 17:05

to too_much,

I applied 2 months ago... received the first email 6 weeks later. They asked for my application, license and passport. 20 minutes later I received the invitation. I had a choice of 3 assessment dates in 3 consecutive weeks. I picked the middle one and next day they confirmed it. A week later I was contacted by a second person confirming the day I chose - the 24th. Also they told me that final confirmation would be on Friday with ticket details for Sunday.

Never asked for any additional documents just sent me a list with other stuff to bring to the assessment.

Tomorrow I will asked them to confirm again, but they've been staying in touch with me the whole time.

Also, THY is a good company. I know more than 10 pilots(5 foreign) and they are all happy there. If you research this forum you will find out that there are just a few people that complain about it, and do not miss a chance to do it. Anyone spending so much energy in doing so has a deeper problem.

Few things you need to know:

1. Foreign first officers have not been upgraded to captains yet, but it takes 5-6 years even for the Turkish ones. Many foreign FO have been upgraded to wide body.

2. You do need a University diploma to progress (also required for Turkish pilots)

3. If you come from far, commuting will be almost impossible during the first year, but you can take unpaid days off.

4. Money is around 4500 euro for FO's based on 70 hrs and this is what you fly. This includes the bonus. It is good for me, but not enough for some people.

5. If you have chance to go to Air France or Lufthansa, do it! After all, what we do depends on what choices we have. I personally come from Bulgaria - I get half the money and spend 8 months in Africa and Asia doing 100 hrs/month. Commuting for me would not be a problem because it is a 5 hour drive, or 1 hr flight, which THY has twice a day. I have been with my company for 4 years and need 3 more to get upgraded. Even upgraded I will make 3200 euro and have the same roster. So it is a choice!

6. China does not pave roads in gold to get pilots :)

This is the information that I have collected the last 3 months and do believe it is pretty accurate.

Let me know if I can help.

CessnaT50Driver 18th Nov 2014 17:38

I am very very happy at THY

CessnaT50Driver 18th Nov 2014 17:39

good luck

Mine was a few months back but any help I can give you let me know privately and I'll ship you an email

bob777 18th Nov 2014 22:45

T500..so THY paid your EASA license..you went trough all 17 exams and got a B777 type rating for free...fantastic. Are you sure about that? Have you ever asked yourself the question why with so many well trained and experienced unhappy B777 rated senior first officer flying for Emirates, Qatar, Etihad.. willing to return to Europe or nearby they have to resort to hire a P2F like you? Beside in aviation there is only one possible upgrade and that is from right to left seat. A type change is not an upgrade as your salary remains the same. It all depends where you come from and what are your actual options...if any.

CessnaT50Driver 19th Nov 2014 01:01

I know why :)

Hope T500 is not a representative sample of what THY is recruiting nowadays sure the background and attitude are what major airline are looking for . Well if he is a pilot..

Capn Rex Havoc 19th Nov 2014 13:57

thats really small iron to me, just finished B777 upgrade at THY
Definitely a case of small penis syndrome.

CessnaT50Driver 19th Nov 2014 13:58

oh wait...wow really

you have to be a pilot? Really. know what all those gauges do? Seesh? All I thought you had to do was wear the uniform

have a great day and a great life. I am sure success will come to you, particuarly with that gung ho attitude you have :) All my best:ugh:

kumbaya 19th Nov 2014 15:59

@ THYFOREIGNPILOTS

Who are you representing ?

As one of many foreigners in THY I never heard about a single entity representing us in here. If you want to organise something please contact us via the private Turkish Airlines (independent) forum. If you are really one of us you'll know where to find it.

I highly doubt that everyone in this forum is really working for THY.
Please stop spreading all this bull****, many people are looking for genuine answers to base their life decisions on.

In general i'm happy in THY, however the upgrade issue still remains unsolved....

Flap2 20th Nov 2014 09:38

I agree with Kumbaya,

allthough the things stated in this Forum concerning the working environment at THY are fairly correct, it is not appropriate to make a negative polemical farce out of it....

The 777 Rating comes along with a Bond and I dont know any expats who went through the rating recently. So i hardly believe that Cessna is flying for TK.

Again, if you dont have any job or u are very far away from your home place than u might consider TK as an temporarily option.
BUT, do not except to be a part of the THY family. U are a small brick in their creation of a future building. Thats it. If they would have the possibility of creating it without any expats, they would do it for sure.
But I think every company would do that...

Cheers,

bob777 20th Nov 2014 09:46

Flap 2 ..you got it right. Still there is a small problem and that is the fact that THY refrained from expressing its real intentions and acted lets say, " misleadingly" , and there is still a chance, if they don't do something about it quick, it could backfire. I don't agree on the "any airline would do it". Actually no airline "does it" beside Korean that clearly states its no upgrade policy in the terms of their temporary contract which includes excellent salaries accommodation and commuting to compensate.Nevertheless they are on a permanent recruitment spree as not many if anybody is planning an FO career, it may just happen.
Beside the apparent immaturity, may be due to underlying frustrations, that such an attitude would suggest, my impression is that some "managers" of THY have a too high esteem of themselves and a very low esteem of "yabanci" considering them idiots they can mess around ( and their careers ) with impunity. I think there might be a tad of delusion in this . Remember this is Turkey, a EU candidate country not some Gulf kingdom and THY is the best "European" airline.
Rumors are that steps in the right direction have been taken so let's hope for the best for everybody as the vastest part of the company and the people working for it do not deserve to be misrepresented nor criticized. The fish always smells from the head.

Flap2 20th Nov 2014 13:33

I do agree with Bob 777. Well said.

What i ment with "every company would do it" was the solely expression, that every Legacy company prefers "their" people if there is the chance to keep up the expansion without hiring any expats.

CessnaT50Driver 20th Nov 2014 23:09

I dont agree with much of tha

time will tell, but I've been made to feel quite welcome. but then you dont think I am there so well thats how it is :D

the hardest part was figuring out how to transfer money to my dollar account at the YapiKredi bank but the kind teller worked it out for me :D

I did figure out the various "blocks" at the training center and it was always nice eating lunch while watching the radars go round and round and of course we all enjoyed watching the new flight attendants ones mileage may vary
