red poppy

hi guys,

This is not to be a debate of if we can or cannot wear poppies or anything else like that. Just asking if anyone has a spare poppy that I can get off them or anyone going to blighty who is able to pick one up? Cant seem to find any anywhere here.

Thridle Op Des 2nd Nov 2014 04:51

I wear one and have a spare, send me a PM and I will get one to you (somehow). Dare I say, I have just recently returned from Oz and their poppies are way better than the UK ones (IMHO):ooh:

Try the schools in Dubai. I know JC was selling them last year

Last year

Lloyds TSB opposite Safa Park and/or any of the UK based professional services firms in Emaar Square or elsewhere about town. Waitrose in Dubai Mall. Keith Nicholl Medical Centre, Beach Road, Umm Sequim 1. They also usually have them in the Library at Ductac, MoE. Shakespeare's in the springs.
Failing that, the British Consulate.

thanks guys for all the help.

Thanks to Thridle for the poppy. I think more should wear the poppy, I rarely see people wearing them but thats personal choice and opinion I suppose.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Canadian Armed Forces,
WW 1

Poppies flourish in disturbed ground - e.g. ploughed fields or the bombed out landscape of Flanders in WW1.
An excellent and appropriate memento for a ghastly war.

I've always tried to wear one - my grandfather fought there and was wounded. So sad that poppy wearing is now so prevalent in UK TV but so few actually know what it's all about.

Supposedly the added nitrogen from the explosives increases the poppy "yield", or so I'm told. Breaking the soil up certainly doesn't hurt. :)

My great uncle, in the Scots Guards, fell near the Belgian border 9/27/18. Poppies never really caught on over here, but the "lost generation" isn't quite forgotten - not yet.

On Wednesday 11th November, which also happens to be the 49th. anniversary of UDI, I will be not far from London and could take a train in. Would any other Ppruner like to meet up for look at the Cenotaph (unless closed to the public on that day- I don't know) and an appropriate refreshment?

EDIT : Screwed up date ......... also booked flights for wrong dates ............. shouldn't be allowed out ,etc etc.

Correct version ...........On Wednesday 12th November, which happens to be the day after the 49th. anniversary of UDI, I will be not far from London and could take a train in. Would any other Ppruner like to meet up for look at the Cenotaph (unless closed to the public on that day- I don't know) and an appropriate refreshment?

I always wear a Poppy every year; on my jacket, shirt and flight-bag! Yep; on the 'Stealey Wheelie' indeed this year!

Never Forget.....

PS Go onto the Royal British Legion website. They have a range of Poppy products😎

Canada does poppies, as well, and the Consulates usually have them (assuming you're in Dubai, it's in Emirates Towers). Slightly different than the British ones, but it gets the point across.
