Jeez! The dugong guzzling too much fuel? What a surprise, didn't see that one coming, after all the rhetoric from Timmy and other fans.

Well, put under its wing whatever donkey you want, there will still be two too many, as with the struts, and it will remain overweight by design.
But replacing a four-legged dinosaur with another one?
Same, same, but different ......

As long as a new design performs only equally to one that has 15+ years, you will keep on begging for less guzzling donkeys.
Imagine the 350 or 77X performing only about equally to the 333 or 77W, the foul mouthing they would get!

The 380 can perform well, yes, but i guess it needs the subsidised price from the EU citicens to achieve that.
Is Boeing able and prepared to match that?

You have no idea of how much the 380 makes on a trip, in fact you have no idea of how much the 777 (which has 40 fewer premium seats on it) that you fly makes per trip. What is your opinion based on? Simply that the 380 is big and has 4 engines? Seems a bit thin...

Seems like only a 380-sized aeroplane makes sense with 4 engines...can't imagine the 748 can make much difference versus the 773-ER

i know, i know, you guys had convinced me earlier, the dugong is way better than the T7 .........

But why is Timmy shouting for better performance then?
Why is the performance of a new, fantastic design only "comparable" to a almost 15 year old one, when it should blow it out of the air by a minimum of 20%?
How can it be cheaper on purchase than the smaller, older one if not subsidised?
Why are at any time more or less 10% of the fleet over at maintenance, as for the older one you will rarely see 5%?
Why is the competition not running down Airbus' doors for dugongs, if it is that much better?

I hear all the good things, but these answers are looming, and now this article.

And finally: Let a poor John Deere driver gloat a bit! After all we are losing some nice flights to it, now even Mumbai and Delhi. ;)

Not sure the 380 is better than the 777 or vice-versa, think they might each have their niches though...

Listen all you bean counter wannabees.
Tim buys and airplane. Sends you an email to learn to fly it. You do your best not to scratch it and spend as much time with your family as possible. Who cares what it looks like or if it flies on cooking oil or not. End of story.

Emirates said on Monday it hoped to achieve progress soon on its call to upgrade the Airbus A380 with new engines.

Emirates has expressed interest in applying the lessons of other Airbus re-engining projects - the 'neo' or new engine option - to the four-engined superjumbo.

"There is a distinct possibility that if the neo is built it will give a 10-12 percent performance improvement, so it is definitely worth having and we are hoping to move on that pretty soon," chief executive Tim Clark told reporters.

Such a project would involve an upgraded engine from Rolls-Royce, as well as some weight reduction and better aerodynamics on the aircraft, he said on the sidelines of the IATA airline industry meeting in Doha.

Engine Alliance, a joint venture between General Electric and Pratt & Whitney supplies the engines for the A380s operated by Emirates but is not expected to take part in any engine upgrade as its shareholders focus on other projects.

Emirates increased its order for A380s in November, adding 50 aircraft to bring the total on order to 140. The first 25 are due to be delivered in 2016 and 2017, Clark said.

The second batch will be delivered after 2020 and could be fitted with upgraded Rolls-Royce engines, if that project goes ahead, he added. Emirates will however take delivery even if there is no decision to upgrade the double-decker jet.

"If they don’t produce it we will take it under the old version. There is nothing out there that resembles what the A380 can do."

Emirates is not interested in Boeing's 467-seat 747-8, Clark said, despite a report of talks between Boeing and the airline.
