ACARS Voyage Report

JA was snooty in the recent Fleet Facts (yes, we are talking EK!!) regarding the small number of ACARS voyage reports being sent. He wrote it was only about 10%.

Now a number of FOs have received emails basically bollicking them for not sending the reports.

Thing is, everyone I've spoken to says they DID send the report.

I've got a feeling the problem is systemic, not due to a lack of compliance by crews.

I think if you're an FO and received the email, and HAVE been sending the VRs, you should write back and firmly but diplomatically tell 'em to pull their heads in.

Firstly because it will highlight the problem, but mostly because they bloody well owe you an apology!!

Skippers are getting flak too. I got a snottogram from a tech pilot reminding me that incorrectly filed ACARS VR's may result in loss of recency and flight pay. Never mind that the initialisation uplink is often wrong and has to be corrected during pre flight. Ass holes

CAT3A 30th Mar 2014 14:55

I got the same - ( loss of flight pay etc)

Bin it as always

flaphandlemover 30th Mar 2014 15:40

same here...
got a nice Email from one of the chaps....

always mailed it...

interesting.......

well, I guess they wrote to the wrong guys... maybe they should chk in the department that sorts them and attaches them to the VR..... seems they are not going through the pile of paper and stick the matching ones together...
as I don't have a company provided stapler, it might be in the bin somewhere....

Agree it sounds like teething problems with the system instead of unruly crew.

As per the new company notam, we can now bin the printout of the flight summary.
I'd suggest the FO's to keep the printouts for a couple of weeks so in case of some snotty email, send a copy of the printout in return.

ACARS voiage report? is this a Boeing thing?

The PROOF (on an outbound leg) that you actually sent the report gets put in the envelope and left in the flight deck for the next FO to file together with the voyage report and flight plan. If the other guy doesn't bother to staple them together when he puts it in the boxes at HQ then you don't have a leg to stand on. My guess is that the guys that have been getting emails were unlucky enough to get fellow aviators who can't be bothered to staple it all together..

I don't carry a stapler in my bag so I'm placing my hope on the other guy to use the stapler at the office.

(The theory is obviously only true if they just check if the printed copy was attached or not. Forget the fact that the info should be recorded when the flight summary is sent)

The paper copy is there to cover OUR asses. Do the other guy a favour and staple them together pls:ok:

I wondered what the heck JA was talking about. Now I see it's a Boeing thing... :D

When you send the VR, make sure you see 'SENT' in the bottom left corner of the screen. If not then perhaps follow it up with a remark on the traditional paper VR, to highlight a potential problem?

On at least a couple of occasions, I have filled in the electronic version and send it and the paper copy has been generated. However, 'SENDING' remains in the bottom left corner of the screen. Were those reports ever sent is the million dirham question?! I personally don't think they were.

Print out two copies and keep one for yourself, so when the nasty gram comes one's way.....well you get the idea. Or just attach it to the CSR on single engine taxi. Or write a ASR about something, then one CSR on the ASR and then a CSR on the no single engine taxi and another CSR with an attached VR making sure they get it. Any reports I have forgotten?

TheDarkHorse 2nd Apr 2014 10:31

How about sticking a VR2 in as well for good measure? :ok:

glofish 3rd Apr 2014 17:23

It would suit JA well to be a little more humble and look into the mirror of EK IT. His "p" word describes that performance more accurately than our try to send the VR.
It seems he starts falling into the Emiratisation trap of truly believing being perfect and only the others are to blame.
The system crashes more often than not, even when displaying "sent".
It emulates the portal, just tried to save a bid today and was wait about the same amount of time as calling the clinic and hoping that that horrible music stops......
HR does not accept claims at the moment and so forth (wobble wobble)

But i guess its all our fault again, why on earth do we dare use an Apple product. :yuk:
