flydubai moving to DWC?

Flydubai moving to DWC, General Civil Aviation Authority says | GulfNews.com

Dubai: Flydubai will be permanently moving from Dubai International to Al Maktoum International at Dubai World Central “in the next year,” the UAE’s top aviation official said on Thursday.
Saif Mohammad Al Suwaidi, Director General of the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority, said flydubai will not divide its operations between the two airports because “Dubai International has reached its maximum capacity [and] cannot offer more slots to newcomers.”

There's been a few press releases lately saying yes and no.

Earlier this week, a flydubai spokesperson speaking to Gulf News, denied that it had confirmed it will move its operations to Dubai’s newest airport.
Hearing our friends at Air Arabia wizz in-and out Sharjah with no delays, holding, visuals and high speed makes me jealous sometimes when going round the Rasko hold at 01AM. Hopefully DWC will be just like Sharjah. But there must be lots of other issues with DWC that you have to get right from the start of ops.

We'll see inshallah...

Dubai has reached its maximum capacity?

Dubai is a long way short of maximum capacity?

BigGeordie 31st Jan 2014 12:34

At certain times of day Dubai is certainly at or very close to capacity.

Fromagio 31st Jan 2014 15:47

It will be with one runway!!

White Knight 2nd Feb 2014 13:07

Often, Big Geordie, because some pilots don't know how to apply take off power and get rolling ASAP and help ATC keep the movement levels up! And the morons who can't clear the runway quickly after landing:ugh::ugh::ugh:

Still confused?

Forgetting peaks and troughs in movements caused by Hubbing,IMHO OMDB still has a way to go to reach Maximum Capacity.

In the 11 months to November 2013 movements totalled 337,121 or an average of 1009 per day.

In November movements totalled 31,525 or an average of 1050 per day.

Using a movement rate of only 48 per hour this equates to a daily rate of 1152.

This is still approx. 10% below capacity at a low rate of 48 per hour.

Maybe I am missing something?

True but at peak times no landing or departure slots remain so unless you schedule totally off peak, very difficult to do, you are stuck! Plus moving FDB to DWC would free up the peak slots they have for UAE's or EK for non ICAO bod's!

I saw a presentation from DXB ATC a while ago- the MAXIMUM movements they were looking at, once SIM OPS was up and running (Which will be 20??) was 42 an hour.

At present it is more like 35.

You are also assuming an even usage throughout the day- EK is a hub operator- having peak arrival and departure waves is a primary feature of it's business plan.

White Knight: Not all of us are complete numpties when it comes to helping keep the traffic flow at maximum and wherein, fwiw, I'll often preempt what's about to come (i.e. take-off clearance) by ensuring that that the thrust is already set at 40% N1 (the equivalent in some other types being 1.1 EPR) i.e. I'll have the engines pre-set at their "stabilised thrust" criteria (because it's the spool-up, from idle, which takes the time) and just as soon as the bloke (or lass) in ATC get to the point of saying "skydubai xyz cleared takeoff... blah blah blah", i.e. as soon I hear that key phrase 'cleared take-off', I release the brakes, press the TOGA button, and away we go = delay minimal !

Now for landing, and especially so when ATC request an expeditious exit (and / or that one is aware of someone close behind whom's likely to be getting a late landing clearance), one touches down, speed brakes come up, activate the reversers (mostly for the benefit of the QAR, and then just as soon as they show green lights, stow them), then proceed as fast as possible towards the 'Kilo 8' RET... albeit endeavouring not to 'over do it' wrt ones speed when entering the RET (always remembering that RET's are designed for a max entry speed of 60 Kts, in the dry?!).

I'd trust that the above falls into the seemingly old fashioned and somewhat under utilised concepts previously known as 'Situational Awareness' and 'Airmanship' ?!

a very pleasant and smooth deceleration I'm sure. :yuk:

Old King Coal 3rd Feb 2014 10:32

Fuse plug: Actually a lot smoother and better managed retardation than leaving the auto-brakes to do their thing and then deselecting them... but hey, wtf do I know?! (what with only +3,000 landings in the 737 alone)

Kiwikid 3rd Feb 2014 13:51

Exactly the selfish/ignorant attitude that doesn't consider the unpleasant and erratic flight suffered by the aircraft getting sent around behind you...

Vortac1 3rd Feb 2014 16:36

In an attempt to try to bring it back on topic...

Any inside info on whether FD's management has denied or confirmed the recent announcement by the Aviation Authorities in regards to the move to DWC?

LostinT2DXB 3rd Feb 2014 19:36

Flydubai management is continuously monitoring the situation......:}

Still Confused?

Looks like several people didn't read my post. My response was to the GCAA saying Dubai is at maximum capacity, which it is clearly not.

I did, and responded to it. Perhaps you didn't read THAT?
