Since the big 3 fly the same routes, I guess QR will be announcing MIA & BOS as their next US destinations.

Another thing.....What's up with guys stepping on people on the radio. Do they not teach switching freq's and listening up for a minute before transmitting.....I promise, your flight is not going to get lost if you don't talk immediately. Here is a hint.........if you can't hear ATC but you can hear other aircraft, ATC probably can't hear you. Why not wait until you can hear ATC so you don't step on the controller and force a more congested frequency because he keeps having to repeat himself. |
JAARule, you must be off the happy pills for the weekend, pin the ears back and knock back a couple of beers, that should fix it.
Believe it or not I do very much enjoy the USA bound flights, but as far as I am aware anything near 16 hours heading that direction involves a 48 hour layover does it not? I guess the shorter east coast flights may only be 24 hours, depending on fatigue, but lately, anything that involves more concentrated bouts of work that maximises my days off makes me happy. The only thing that takes value away now from ULR flying is this ridiculous 5&15 max day off limit... Hello Mcfly, it's a :mad: Long Haul operation, limiting days off in this way both impacts roster efficiency and bid success. |

But I do dare you to challenge some old-skool crusty pilot saying "three five ohh" on the radio on your next US Flight. Would make a great YouTube video. Maybe even join the ASR hall o' fame. Imagine this ASR, "Another aircraft read back a clearance to climb and maintain "tree fife zero" as "three fife ohhhh. It posed no threat or safety to anyone else, but was highly offensive." |

@Varmint...yup the "switch-n-talk" phenomenon most experienced in India seems to have migrated to the Gulf...very annoying to say the least..TRI's need to jump on newbies to sort this out..

All that piss and vinegar is going to send you to an early retirement. Did it keep you lying awake at night last time you heard "comin down?" During 20 years of flying to and from the states I've never heard that one. Maybe i will give it a go next time I check in with Dubai approach. |

JAARule- Yeah I had a read of that doc but couldn't find any reference to "checkin' in" or "comin' down" or "lookin' fer lower" or "one two five an' a quarter" or any of the others you guys love to use! Shame as they sound so cool. Yes, I do need a step-by-step please - beginning with "checkin' in". Why do you say that when it's plainly obvious you are doing so by the simple fact that you are transmitting? However, you did open my eyes. I'm going to stop saying good morning, good afternoon to Ankara and Baghdad. That is clearly non-stardard and someone is going to get hurt. Even though it is obviously morning or afternoon. |

Actually a greeting is not a problem. If you dont understand it, its OK. When a Clearance is give in a non standard phraseology , thats when safety is an issue... |
Then why not roster the guys to fly to the US who do not bitch about ATC there ... and let the others fly to asia and the subcontinent where they seem more happy with the local babbeling.

Payscale, be a good little EK pilot and brief the required area communication briefing requirements. Make yourself familiar with the differences in the vast EK network. (oh my god, i sound australian)
Every time I go to U.K. I study the briefing requirements on radio communication which is different than Australia. Every time I go to Australia, I review the briefing requirements of radio communications with is different than Africa. Every time I go to Africa, I brief myself on radio communication procedures with is different than India. And as always, I review American radio communication procedures as I am supposed to. No where in the OMA it requires me to bitch and complain about America when I have a hard time keeping up with the busiest airspace in the world. Some old crusty US guys read it back in slang, but I don't agree with it...Do I lose sleep over it, no. But next time you hear it, you should tell him he is not following the above document in regards to US STANDARD ATC communications. Make sure you tell me the date and time so I can pull the tape on liveatc.com and put it on youtube. I'd much rather hear slang than foreign language spoken in India, Saudi, France, even Germany. ohhhhh the horror!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
