Maurice Flanagan retires from EK in April. After more than 60 years in Aviation where he spent 35 in Ek.

"We will all miss him. I bid farewell to this extraordinary trailblazer and wish him a well-earned and richly deserved retirement."

Maurice has really been a major asset of EK. Thank you Sir Maurice!

35yrs in EK??? Wasn't EK born in 1985...

I_fixem 21st Mar 2013 20:57

Yep, 35 years

Quite right Stratos, but he started off at Dnata prior to that in 1978, and Emirates was born from there (Dnata).

I'm still not sure if Emirates is part of Dnata or if it has evolved to the level that Dnata is now part of Emirates, but the fact that you can't separate the two when it comes to profit announcements shows that they are definitely related.

Why?

Flanagan essentially made EK into what it is today. Have to give credit where credit is due.

Cheers Maurice. Enjoy your well earned retirement

I have a world of respect for a man who is such a gentleman and voice of moderation in an industry whose management is populated by hard nosed, cut throat individuals. Despite his success and that of the airline he has never lost touch with the human side of the business. Several of his actions that I have witnessed personally over the years have made a great impression which will stay with me for the remainder of my career.

:ok:---Respect---:ok:

Very sad to see such an icon in aviation retire. Yet it was inevitable . Maurice Flanagan will always be remembered as a Gentleman and a person with character and dignity .He has been instrumental in guiding the airline during its infancy and I'm sure he can look back with pride on his achievements. Whether it was his business acumen , or his support for sports, or for the literary shows and charity campaigns , Maurice Flanagan has been at the forefront. I hope the culture that prevailed during Maurice Flanagan's tenure, continues. The support provided by the Royal Family in providing a stable management team and backing their decisions , has made Emirates in a short span one of the airlines to contend with .

Yes ! Maurice Flanagan you will be sorely missed

P.S please don't take TC with you . I still have a few years before retirement

Bigmountain, well said.

Sir Maurice

Long Lander,

You have obviously never had any dealings with the gentleman, nor have any awareness of the enormous amount of work which he has put in to EK and Dubai. He has the respect of a huge number of people in very senior positions in Dubai, and in the aviation industry generally. His acheivements "on and off the pitch" deserve a lot more respect than your cynical posting suggests.

Current EK captains of a certain vintage in particular have much for which to be grateful. After the Gulf Air CFIT incident the experience requirements for EK upgrade were increased geometrically at a stroke, effectively barring a large group of EK FOs from command for the foreseeable future. Maurice went to bat to return those requirements to a level which would see far fewer people disadvantaged.

Indeed Dropp...I guess a fair slice of the profit share might leave with him....:(
