GF direct entry!
GULF AIR is getting 75 direct entry Captains and First Officers on A320 fleet, so are they getting more A320's?:p
|
Kuku
Lets say you're partially right !! Numbers are wrong and 76 people will be needed too But Hiring is now a different scene now from what it was S.L. |
so what's your point?
|
hey kuku, i think you are right i just had the news 2 days ago, but i don't know why the company should hire direct entry captains since they are many qualified F/Os who meet the requirements. may be PAY PINUTS AND GET MONKEYS?
|
Perhaps direct entry captains understand the meaning of 'WHOOP WHOOP PULL UP!'.
|
....and don't dive into the Arabian Gulf on dark nights...

Have any of you read the comments of Jamil Wafa as reported in the GDN on Sunday. Gulf Air Needs a Fresh Start
Some of the comments in this piece are very hard hitting and critical of Gulf Air. Most of what he says is bang on correct but critisisms of this level have never been published in any Gulf newspaper before. Jamil Wafa is not some pissed of business man with a grudge against Gulf Air but is in many ways an aviation insider in Bahrain. Why these comments have been published just 1 day before a GA board meeting has been the point of some discussion here. It is speculated, that the owning states are about to wind up Gulf Air. The board meeting has asked the owning states to pay $272.5 Million in order to recapitalise GA just as Mr. Wafa has said. The owners have said they will decide by April 30. If the owners decide to wind up Gulf Air then Bahrain and Abu Dhabi will need to start up their own airlines. Mr. Wafa is involved in the stalled Dilmun Air project which would effectively become Bahrain Air. The informed speculation here has suggested that, he has been given tacit approval to publish his remarks as a way of softening up the blow if and when it does come. I think that the adverts for A320 pilots are in line with the stated policy to increase the shorthaul particularly around the gulf but the owners may not allow the policy to be implemented. Next week will be interesting!! ;) |
What chance of Qatar & Oman being "bought out" of Gulf Air?
|
it would be un-Arabic to "wind up" Gulf Air. Qatar and Oman would simply stop putting capital into GF and concentrate on their own airlines. It would be up to Abu Dhabi and Bahrain to decide on the future and (more importantly) the direction to which GF is to take.either way, GF is about to enter the real world of going it alone without family inheritance.
|
when is the crash report being released?
|
Looks as though we have a week left! I just hope that the indemnitys will be paid.
BAE146 you say that GF is about to enter the real world. I certainly hope that it gets the chance to as 272.5 million is a lot of money for the states to cough up and Oman and Qatar have had no interest in GF for years now. It must also be remebered that the other airlines in the Gulf do not realy fight fair. Qatar airways has its fuel bill paid for by the goverment and Emirates is suported by DNATA and the Dubai goverment and are never expected to make a profit. alf mabrook, crash what crash?:D :D :D I wonder what the effect on the Bahrain economy the demise of GF would have? |
Hmmm, Hogwash
A touch of bias creeping in there methinks. Your comment "Emirates is suported by DNATA and the Dubai goverment and are never expected to make a profit" is a wee bit off, even with my fully developed "Cynical Program" installed, it is hard not to realise that Emirates has been making BIG profits for quite a few years, the in house quote that we have been making profit from our second year may be open to interpretaion, but certainly the last half dozen years have been Extremely profitable. If you knew how the profit share was worked out here, you would realise that profit is more likely to be hidden than made up. |
Anybody know what gulfair is like to work for. What type of package is offered for F/O's.I read the accomadation is included.
What is rostering like in GulfAir. Any info appreciated! |
I think Hogwash does have a point. Unfortunately for GF, the governments are not helping as much as they used to. In addition, some of them insist on having certain international routes even though they are VERY unprofitable (this is the major problem of having 4 hubs). GF management are not allowed to cancel these routes and so they have no choice but to give in to their demands. If those governments would help GF offset the losses on those routes (by giving incentives and better prices on fuel, landing and handling charges, etc...), then all would be well.
Most carriers in the Middle East are losing tons of money, and the governments have no choice but to bail them out because they cannot afford to have their national airline go under. Given that there are 4 owners here (so all costs are divided by 4), it can't be that tough for the owners to cough up the money, can it? |
Over the weekend a little birdy told me that Oman and Qatar are going to pull out this week and that the 272.5 mill has been secured from Bahrain and Abu Dhabi, although I have no idea where Bahrain thinks its going to get that sort of money.
;) :D ;) |
From the same place it always gets that kind of money - Saudi!
(who do you think paid for the causeway?!).;) |
That's what I'd heard - GF to become Abu Dhabi and Bahrain only. Can only be a good thing IMO, and not before time. If the cash is found and the, er, "wastage" stopped, looks like GF may have a fighting chance.

Another smart-arse comment from that dick-head 411A
|
Yes he is getting a bit tiresome :p
|
alphaprot...emirates is profitable for many years...through it's ground services division DNATA...not too sure how much flt ops contributes/detracts from the bottom line...
|
Ironbutt57. According to the Pricewaterhouse Coopers audited accounts. In the 2001-2002 financial year, the "Flight Op's" side chipped in with a wee contribution of 77.5% of the 603 million dirham profit.

Gulf Air deal ??
Anybody know what gulfair is like to work for. What type of package is offered for F/O's.I read the accomadation is included.
What is rostering like in GulfAir. Any info appreciated! |
I got a mail from somebody "warning" me against Gulf Air
..it read "Poor standard accomadation,Poor rostering.Poor pay and holidays cancelled at short notice" I have no idea if this is good or bad information.Would appeciate any comments on the above. Thanks ! |
oh Dear Santan !!
Well lets say show me anywhere where everything works 100% I've been here over 20 years and have only a few complaints but they're not that bad really Pay well I've stayed here a while so it can't be too bad Rostering 8 days off every 28 52 days leave yeah might get cancelled for example when you transfer fleet but there are many people here from all over the place and a lot have been here at least 10 years and indeed much more but make your own mind up S.L. |
Santan
You hardly need to worry about holidays being cancelled when you are living in one great big holiday camp :D but shhhh don't tell everybody or they'll all want to come  I've been here 10 years now and still got the smile on my face :D :D :D |
Emirates just announced 3 weeks profit share for all employees, based on record GROUP profits of AED 603 million (165 million US$).
DNATA contributed AED134.8 Million Emirates Contributed AED468.2 Million So Hogwash and ironbutt57 can we lay that one to rest now. |
Sirwa 69 !!!   :D :D you speak with forked tongue
|
alphaprot sounds suspiciously like a defensive "eighty-whiner" aussie...
|
Ironbutt
Normally I can't speak, especially last night. There were a hell of a lot of Gulf Air chaps and chapesses at a certain compound in Budayia to say goodbye to PD who is off to Singapore. :) :) The bleeding hangar doors weren't just open they were ripped off the hinges  I wondered at one point how many Ppruners were there, were you? Looks like I picked the wrong week to run out of Brufen   |
nope...missed that one was at one in diraz...couldn't speak later myself:cool:
|
If this is all true, why on earth are they holding interviews in London next week? They claim to be hiring 70 pilots.
Not normal for a company about to go down the tubes, is it? |
Idunno
The management have still got to assume that the money will be found and the airline will continue. The future plan is to increase the A320 fleet so they will need more pilots. or It could be smoke and mirrors ;) ;) |
"eighty-whiner" aussie
Hmm, not even the right hemisphere Ironbutt, are you always so consistently wrong, so far everything you have posted has been about 180 degrees out. Tell me are you a sHirley D rider with that handle and signature, because if so, then you have just confirmed all my preconceptions. |
alphaprot...mmmm..ah never mind waste of time...
