EK/QF pilot share

Hi all,

I was speaking with a Qantas employee last evening about their new agreement with emirates. I asked him what would happen with the LHR based crew's that operate QF2 and QF10. He told me that LHR base was to be closed completely for both flight and cabin crew, and subsequently EK 380 pilots would continue the journey onwards from DXB-LHR-DXB, QF pilots would get 48 rest in DXB and return back to SYD/MEL. Cabin crew would do the full rotation, SYD/MEL-DXB-LHR-DXB-SYD/MEL with a 24 in each destination.

I would like to know if anyone else knows about this or whether they have heard different? Also wouldn't the EK pilots who fly the QF to LHR have to learn QF's SOP's or would they be the same/similar?

Many thanks

Doesn't sound right to me. For a start, there are no QF pilots based in London - only cabin crew. Also, the DXB - LHR - DXB Sector if flown by EK pilots will be on EK aircraft with EK crew, really can't see them mixing EK pilots and QF cabin crew. Hope not anyway! :E

As long as the plane is a QF A380 it will be QF pilots and QF cabin crews who operate the plane...

The route is a big money maker for QF and they will continue the way it is the only difference is now operating via DXB and that will be even more money maker for QF because they can fly from Australia to soooo many new destinations with the stop in DXB, so this will be a blast for them, and also they wonīt compete with EK... so it was a very good move...

By the way 48hours in each place looks an awesome schedule for crews... I wish I could do it now that I still donīt have family... :}:ok::O

Come on guys use a bit of common sense, EK will not be operating, cross crewing, each others equipment. This is a win for the guys on the QF 380 as TC has already said he wants QF to get the slots back off BA in LHR and to put all the Euro traffic through DXB.

Ek and QF are in bed together, but their is no commercial attachment in an equity sense.

The timings are weird. The QF flights arrive around midnight in Dubai. Most EK connections to Europe are around 8am I think.

So other than carrying their own pax onto LHR, where are the transit pax for EK flights? Where are the synergies that AJ is rabbiting on about?

Qantas scheduling is not done for passenger convenience . Qantas does what it wants and passengers will have to learn to like it .

Yay! More flights between 2 and 5 am.

Holding Fuel ??

QF1 from SYD, arriving 00:25.
QF9 from MEL, arriving 2325
12 tonnes of holding fuel twice a day will knock a hole in the perceived revenue. I wonder if the beancounters factored that into their yield?

It will be interesting to see the on time arrival statistics of the 0025 arriving flight. And the 90 minute turnaround with holding into London at 7am. That is real common sense it seems.

Last time I transited Dubai, it seemed utter chaos at midnight. Looking out the window at the stack in the hold north of the field was quite interesting. I am correct in assuming about 40 minutes holding is normal at midnight?

Thena again, the departure rush at 9am is also quite entertaining. 40 minutes on the ground also seemed normal, but those experiences are only from 2 trips.

So passengers who connect from Gatwick, Manchester, Frankfurt, Paris and Milan on EK can have an immediate QF flight to Sydney and Melbourne. But from all the other myriad EK destinations, they'll have a long transit going in either direction.

Oh wait - EK have A380s departing for Sydney and Melbourne at about the same time. So that whole exotic European network works best if you fly EK all the way!

So, remind me again clever people, why is QF doing this? I don't get it, but then what do I know!
