Lack of available leave at EK

Final leave allocation been done and yet again nothing granted in the secondary allocation. Same as last year ( 30 days total leave ). Anyone else starting to accumulate leave that they are unable to take or is it just me? Last year I could just about understand due lack of Captains, but not really 2 years on the trot.

At least tell us what fleet you're on to start with...

mud mover 1st Feb 2013 11:42

Sorry!!!!!! left seat on the 777

GoreTex 1st Feb 2013 12:13

all 42 days taken like every year, 3rd year in a row peak leave in july/august, A380.

Cowtown 1st Feb 2013 12:24

Like Goretex, I've been very fortunate over the last few years. Peak leave of some kind each year.
The days of picking up a few "green" days are dead and buried.
Like everything at EK, you put up with it until you no longer can... Keep submitting the leave requests and you never know, you may get lucky 2 months before. It worked for me once..

NegativeNigel 1st Feb 2013 13:48

You'll get your leave , mud mover... it'll be assigned in five day blocks where and when it suits Them.

You'll still fit in 90hrs in the same month so you won't even notice the five days of "leave."

Does anyone like this new system where you put in for leave and find out 2 months before?? Because I surely don't like it. It sucks !@#%^ in my opinion.

What happened to the old calendar like system whereby if there was leave available you could snap it up on the spot... Why did they do away with that system which seemed to work fine? It seemed fair and logical. Now we are kept in the blind until 2 months before which makes it very difficult to plan anything.

Am I the only one that feels this way... ??

No. But once you've been here a while, you realise that complaining, even with better solutions, is futile.

No one cares. Just put up with it.

mud mover 1st Feb 2013 18:14

So have I missed something? I thought you put in for secondary leave in the non peak months and if it is available you were given it. Is it really the case that you don't find out till 2 months before? I put in 3 separate requests for 6 days leave in non peak months and all 3 were rejected. Bit more than coincidence I think.

It depends on the crewing forecast for the seat you are in. What you were awarded last year. How much you have been awarded already .
Then it moves into this phase where it looks again at the crewing levels 3 months in advance to update if any vacation becomes avail.

Craggenmore 2nd Feb 2013 06:43

Does anyone know the reason why leave that was successfully awarded in the first round has now been rejected after the second round - not modified or touched in any way either..?

donpizmeov 2nd Feb 2013 06:53

Craggenmore, it seems this has happened to a few. Email your fleet chic and they should fix it.
The leave system now is ****e. Fleet give themselves pats on the back for ensuring pilots get 30 days. Not being able to see what days are still available means any future leave bid is a shot in the dark. As the majority of pilots here come from other parts of the world, short notice leave does not tend to work too well. I have met a large number of people on forced leave at the moment as well.

Keep recovering

Hopefully everyone on here complaining will also have sent a letter to JA. He might do something about it, maybe not, but the chances are higher than anyone here helping!

Unlike Glofish's advice, it's in your hands. If you're not happy, tell them. If you don't, they'll not accept there's a problem.

I think Harry is right .... Maybe JA needs a letter or two.

Sell any excess leave back to the company. Contrary to popular belief this is possible, albeit every two years.

I appreciate the fact that it won't alleviate the leave allocation problem, but it will certainly prevent any unwanted blocks appearing at short notice.

Jolly Foreigner 4th Feb 2013 11:27

Hands up, I must be one of the very lucky ones. After over 10 years here I finally got all my leave on the dates I requested with only one week in a peak period. No complaints from Mrs JF this year.

Craggenmore 5th Feb 2013 10:56

Assigned non-peak leave after first bid session.... then for second bid, had my first leave assignment removed
Fire Ball, this also happened to me and I've already booked a holiday over the dates

Is it a fleet issue? What fleet are you on (me 380)
