Prince Alwaleed's tricked out 380

Prince Alwaleed's Tricked Out A380 Jet - Business Insider

4HolerPoler 22nd Dec 2012 09:29

Complete BS story. He sold it on to the Saudi Royal family a few years back. They have no use for it & it's sitting in storage.

But the guy is keen on as much coverage as possible and is not about to refute any of this hot air.

Similar article in the UK Daily Mail this week here but its complete hogwash; isn't happening.

But it makes for a great story.

flaphandlemover 22nd Dec 2012 16:07

4Holer,

i thought there was some kind of legal issue with this one...

so the Kingdom Holding A380 is off the table?

Read the storey again!! For the word tricked read "fitted":hmm:

John21UK 22nd Dec 2012 17:14

Why not just give that ammount of money to cancer research or hundreds of charities in africa's etc...

He'd be very limited in his movement with that moster anyway. Utterly useless!

mutt 22nd Dec 2012 20:31

Flaphandlemover, google the Saad group and you will find out why that A340 is subject to legal proceedings.

Under the present Saudi leadership, there is no way that they will spend the money required to retrofit the A380.

I completely agree. Why in the ME do they always need to have the tallest, biggest, most expensive, vip, vvip, vvvip, etc? Inferiority complex?

LGW Vulture 23rd Dec 2012 10:56

Which completion facility will put their head on the block to go to contract on this aircraft? That is the question.

4HolerPoler 23rd Dec 2012 15:42

A non-issue as there as absolutely no plan to put a contract in place.

4PH - you sound very sure. What is your source?

Oceanic 24th Dec 2012 08:15

Rest assured, 4HP has his facts right.

glofish 24th Dec 2012 08:45

Is it Alwaleed or Aladeen?

Payscale 25th Dec 2012 16:30

So why are they looking for crew for it?

mutt 25th Dec 2012 22:49

Payscale. Considering that it will take about two years to outfit an aircraft like this, I would have thought that it was premature to hire pilots.

the artical didnt mention anything about the bar. I want to know how big is the bar?

Payscale 26th Dec 2012 07:25

We will see. Whoever owns it wont mothball it, so one day it will surface somewhere

mutt 26th Dec 2012 08:38

Whoever owns it wont mothball it,
it wouldn't be the first, look at the 2 VIP MD11's, or the first BBJ3 or more recently a B748 that went straight from Seattle to the US desert.

All were purchased in a different financial era.

Left Coaster 26th Dec 2012 14:55

I know of one 748 that went to the desert recently, but that was for installation work, it's now in Europe for an interior. I don't think anyone will ever see a VVIP 380 out there for a long time.

flaphandlemover 12th Jan 2013 10:39

would be this one then....

and it ain't goes nowhere soon...

Yah....that does indeed appear to be in "temporary storage"...:ooh:

BALHR 12th Jan 2013 13:30

Can anybody explain why Alwaleed has sold his A380 to the Royal Family of Saudi Arabia (i.e. his realtives) and why?

Maybe he might look at th 747-8I insted (there have been several VIP orders for that plane..)

Mister Warning 12th Jan 2013 14:58

Tax reasons? Bwahaha :O

Maybe the King told him that it's not appropriate to fly a bigger aircraft
than the King!

Gulfstreamaviator 13th Jan 2013 04:42

Thats so old school

It was the rule, yes, but now its based on the size of their tower.

And Kingdom holding has a BIG one.....
