EK 2nd Daily LAX cancelled..thoughts?

Effective Aug 1st ...second daily is cancelled.

Any ideas. Is this because of 380 and they need lift elsewhere or as with IAH the there just was too much capacity?

Very un-EK like to cancel two frequencies in one year.

Freeing up a 77W to replace MAN's morning 330, I believe

wapses 28th May 2012 14:26

EK have believed that they can throw in extra capacity anywhere they like. This is a bit of a wakeup call.

On an ultra long-haul sector like LAX/DXB there are limited opportunities for connecting traffic at either end of the route and my guess is that EK have found out that traffic growth is not endless.

Good to see this happening. A small bump along the way of the Gulf airlines' ambition to dominate the world .... to the benefit of absolutely no one.

Need the extra 77W for other route. Told by the LAX station manager that EK is going to return 11 A380s to airbus and won't take them back until it is permanently fix. No deliveries in 2012 and 2013..so interesting times ahead. FYI, this is what I was told so don't shoot the messenger.

Crews will probably not mind the reduced frequency so much. Heard that the layover in sunny, beautiful La La Land is in a sketchy area (not the expected Santa Monica or downtown LA where other crews stay). Although I imagine most crews are exhausted after those flights anyway and probably want to sleep.

load factors were always high when I've done LAX, probably need the extra 777 for Washington Dulles by September and probably a few more US Destinations announced by the end of the year.

Will probably re-add the second flight to IAH and LAX in 2013 as long as the global economy doesn't collapse with the Euro.

EK is adding routes faster than they can take delivery of aircraft now that the 380 is stalled.

helen-damnation 28th May 2012 16:41

Wapses,

It's been to my benefit & that of the 3,000 others on the seniority list.

EK commercial are very good as a rule, only a couple of routes dropped in my time and this reduction will only be temporary. Get your company to up its game, then you can have a place at the table too :hmm:

Emirates was losing $2 million a month on the LAX route. Wrong aircraft I was told. Let's see where they redeploy the metal.
2nd IAH is a pipe dream now that DFW is on line. 30-40% of the IAH transfered to DFW. Big Indian and Paki community in the Dallas Metroplex.

wapses,

It's not a wake up call, or would you rather EK plough's on regardless and then we can call them stubborn idiots.

The fact is is that EK reacts quickly, very quickly, to the needs of the business, whether we like it or not. The commercial and marketing departments are very good. Like the training dept management you won't see too many of certain cultures weilding big power within these departments

Might be some competition from our friends at TK. They have been building quite an operation at IST modeled after EK's operation at DXB.

Such drivel falls if people have no clue what they're babbling about.

We very much mind losing this fligh!. L.A. is hated by some, but very appreciated by most. The location is great, nice mall next to the good hotel and only a bike's ride away from Redondo Beach and 10' from Manhattan Beach. But I guess that rings the same numb bell to the pretentious contributor as knowledge of such operation. Most crew are quite actif around L.A. Give me 2 a month and I am a happy man.

Concerning the 'wrong equippment', this might apply to the 77W in comparison with the 77L. But show me a better suited aircraft than either of them!!!

I guess we simply have to put the T7's to all routes deserted by wing-cracks.

By the way, IAH would love a second flight again .....
