Qatar command upgrade on B777

Hi all...

just need to find out some quick facts about Qatar Airways... I heard that earliest for command upgrade is a minimum of 5 years in the company? Is this true?... can some kind soul enlighten me please....

thanks...

safelife 11th May 2012 16:16

Currently no demand...

flyforfood1 11th May 2012 17:09

Well the absolute minimum is 3 years in the company, for narrow body 5000TT for wide body 6500TT with 2000 on a QR machine. As I said this is bare minimum, you'll obviously join the queue and have to pass the command selection process.

tetra7 11th May 2012 17:58

what kinda of hours are you guys doing there roughly?...

tcas II 11th May 2012 19:17

900hrs per yr. :\

tetra7 12th May 2012 06:32

and this is on B777?... what about sector count?.... sorry so many questions, I need all these info to help me decide whether to go out there....

Iver 12th May 2012 13:57

Sorry, can someone post a "mock" 777 roster? It could be high-level and just examples of types of trips and the time "off" in between? Clearly many references made to the "difficult" 777 roster but not many examples provided.

Again, a realistic roster would do just find to put that issue to bed.

BTW, if the 777 fleet is stagnant in terms of pilot upgrading, maybe you should consider requesting the 787 (not sure if you can request or not) because that fleet will grow very quickly in the coming years and you might upgrade faster. After the first 5 787s arrive in 2012, Qatar is evidently getting one new aircraft every 3.5 weeks for 4 years for a total of 60 aircraft if options are exercised. :eek::D That should provide some great pilot movement for those on the fleet early. Just a thought...:}

crazy_max 12th May 2012 14:00

TCAS II, 900 Hours in the 777? You where not complaining in that post, right?

tetra7 13th May 2012 04:58

yeah the 787 would be cool... got offered the 777, can't decide whether I can take sand for breakfast, lunch and dinner... looking a pull factor... anyone else with any information worth sharing?....

talking about 777 rosters, is commuting a possibility at all?

JJ330 13th May 2012 06:55

Typical 777 roster

2 JFK(3 Days trip)
1 MEL(4 Days trip)
1 BKK-SGN(4 Days trip)
1 PVG(3 Days trip)

2-3 days off between
and
some stand-by

Flight time 120hrs/ 75 logged hours

Mister Warning 13th May 2012 07:01

Tetra,
Commuting is a possibility.
Like a snowball's possibility in hell.
Search before you post!!:ugh:

thib017 13th May 2012 09:06

JJ330, is the per diems paid base on the 120hrs or the 70hrs logged?

Thanks ;)

swallowenforcer 13th May 2012 09:49

What the...

330 what 777 are you flying at QR?? Who ever you are paying at rostering let me know.

So that is you're typical roster? I'm emailing the fleet captain tomorrow and asking for the same.

I've been a f/o for over 3 years, bid every month and maybe I've got something close to that twice, both times before leave, so they can max you're hours.

The main reason people hate this place is because they get told crap like that then get all upset after joining.

They work you hard and you're just a number, put up with it or leave.

Aerodmb 13th May 2012 11:46

Any future salary increase expected for FO's? What is the average pay for 777 FO's these days?

its because posts like your last one that sometimes guys refrain themselves fom posting valuable information around here.

NO!! :ugh: How many times will this be asked on all threads - I think guys are thinking they may be the exception to the rule. Commuting is not possible, do not bank on it, there are no guarantees. You will have 2-3 days off at a time in Doha, if out can commute on that then go for it!

spanner the cat 13th May 2012 13:54

Swallowenforcer, do you suck the c*** of death while bidding then? :}

Tetra7, it depends where home is. I bid for days off in a block and normally get one of my bids. There have been one or two months where my bidding hasn't worked and I've had to go home for very short breaks which is far from ideal. Bottom line is that it's set up here for you to move out entirely. Anything different is your look out.

And FWIW I left it to the boss to decide whether to move the family out or not. Having seen the place the answer was not.

Iver 13th May 2012 14:11

First, JJ330 thank you for sharing your mock 777 roster. Informative and very much appreciative. We read a lot of claims about the challenges of the 777 fleet but have not been given many examples in the past.

Swallowenforcer,

So, you are saying that the following mock roster is actually a good roster? If so, what is a more "typical" roster that you have experienced? Anyone else have a more "typical" example? Are those total hours logged reasonably accurate? Do most 777 longhaul trips get a minimum of 2-3 days in between (non intra-Gulf flying)?

Typical 777 roster

2 JFK(3 Days trip)
1 MEL(4 Days trip)
1 BKK-SGN(4 Days trip)
1 PVG(3 Days trip)

2-3 days off between
and
some stand-by

Flight time 120hrs/ 75 logged hours

Captain Partzee 13th May 2012 18:48

Typical 777 roster

2 JFK(3 Days trip)
1 MEL(4 Days trip)
1 BKK-SGN(4 Days trip)
1 PVG(3 Days trip)
2-3 days off between
and
some stand-by
Flight time 120hrs/ 75 logged hours

Don't worry guys, with this roster soon you will be dead.:}

Very interesting information shared on this thread - I would think quite helpful for those looking at Qatar (probably many people with so many airlines in distress these days).

If that 777 roster is indeed typical (hoping Swallowenforcer can provide an alternate "mock" roster version), then the fatigue factor would certainly compare to the A320 roster examples we have seen in the past. I have heard that the A330 pilots are also busy - would be nice to see representative A330 and A300-600F rosters as well (although those requests are like pulling teeth). Any comparative information is always useful and appreciated.

So, to summarize and restate the obvious, if you go to Qatar, just expect to work hard... Good salary/benefits/housing, nice aircraft and interesting routes, but you will work your a$$ off...:eek::{:}
