EK to Washington DC
Just announced IAD service starting September 2012
Emirates to Launch New Service to Washington, DC -- WASHINGTON, March 15, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- |
That's great news. Life on the Boeing just keeps getting better & better.

Another 2 night flights. Lovely.

Yeh, we'll see about that.

Emirates on Thursday (15MAR12) announced the launch of Dubai – Washington Dulles service, with 3-class Boeing 777-300ER (with First Class Suite) operating on daily basis, effective 12SEP12.
Its rival ETIHAD few weeks ago announced its intention to operate Abu Dhabi – Washington Dulles service from 31MAR13. Schedule: EK231 DXB0220 – 0850IAD 77W D EK232 IAD1055 – 0800+1DXB 77W D |
Lovely departure time out of DXB. Not surprising since a huge percentage of flights leave DXB in the wee hours of the morning.
How does one prepare for a 2:20AM departure (12 hour flight?) and maintain alertness? I guess that departure leg will be flown by the First Officer(s)... Sounds exhausting regardless of the fleet. Thank god for the crew bunks. On a positive note, I have visited the Washington DC area in the Fall season (latter October time frame) and it is lovely - cool temperatures and beautiful changing leaf colours. :ok: |
I'd be happy to go to Washington at that time if you want to do my Indian turnaround 40 minutes later. You'd have to come across to the 330 first though....
|
2.20am departure is fairly standard. That will be the 4th USA flight that leaves at that time.
The 14 hour flight to IAD will be a relative piece of cake. One crew gets on board and sleeps for 6 hours, a preferred pattern around here.. The operating crew, works for 6 hours, sleeps for 6 hours then lands the plane at about the same time their colleagues are arriving home after their 2 pilot, 3.00am India turn. :ouch: Haha beat me to it Geordie |
exactly, I am sure you know better than timmy boy Just thinking out loud. GI |
You boys just dont get it!

Do tell, Fatbus - please share...

Regardless of what all the self proclaimed airlines experts( Pilots ) say, EK is making a ton of cash with the 380. The wing issue is short lived and Airbus is paying for it.
Ive asked this before, " what A/C will do India when the 330 is gone". and they are leaving . The 777 is a great A/C and it also makes lots a cash, but it will be doing all the night turns. |
And just what does your statement have to do with the Washington flight?
Nervous and doing some wishful thinking? :} Concerning the layover, easy to guess, it will emulate the JFK night shift. |
Do the stats.
100 B777's at the moment, many more to come along with 70+ A350's that won't be absolved from night turns. In contrast, losing 26 A330's that will hardly flood the quantity of night turns already on the B777. Nice try but I'm not quivering in my boots. |
DC is 1-1.15 hrs longer than JFK.
That makes it over 14hrs flying time, winter, for certain. Should be a 48hr.....will be once the ASR's start. |
I see you got another nice month of flights:
CCU ATH MRU CMB HRE Choice destinations on the **** fleet:O I've got 104 hours this month thanks to the CRACK380 and I still have 14 days off...!!! Stick that in your motorbike and smoke it |
I see it announced on the portal that another flight to good ol OPKC is starting in August courtesy of the 777 too. |
Only 14 days off.?
I've 21, '****e fleet', bottom bid and no leave. Ill take a few night flights each month to achieve this every single time..!!!:ok: |
@ ex 380
EK stopped sending 380 FO's to the 330 and it will stop sending 330 Capt. to the 380, that is the whole idea of doing right to left on the 380, right now there is already a surplus of FO's on the 380, if those guys are good boys they will get a "Super" command. I think it will pay off to wait a bit longer for the upgrade. |
MED, DAC, CMN, BOM, MCT, AD & RSV.........
Nice roster again A330-200 Driver.....:ok: I love winding you up |
live fast die young
I've got 104 hours this month thanks to the CRACK380 and I still have 14 days off...!!! Stick that in your motorbike and smoke it Enjoy the cosmic tan. |
And I'm BOTTOM bid in April - with 49 rostered hours and a week of RSV... Looks like a 'difficult month' all-in-all!!!!!
Glad I'm not on Seattle's 'finest' :D:D:D:D:D |
I love to hear the EK pilots slam each other's fleet types. Most of us would give an appendage to someday fly either the A380 or the 777. Both amazing "career" airplanes with fly decks far more comfortable than the one I fly. Only the pilot of the A380 could refer to a 777 as an "uncomfortable Boeing box". :}:p

keep it coming guys!!!! what a thread and this is what EK managements want.:ok:

I love to hear the EK pilots slam each other's fleet types. Most of us would give an appendage to someday fly either the A380 or the 777. Both amazing "career" airplanes with fly decks far more comfortable than the one I fly. Only the pilot of the A380 could refer to a 777 as an "uncomfortable Boeing box". The "gay 180" a name that is allegedly well deserved. The "V-gina" on the basis that it's as ugly as an ugly thing, and yet comfy inside. And of course my favourite the "crack Ho" heavens only knows why. There are of course many many more, some making reference to the Stephen Hawkins steering device, and others to its rather bulbous ungainliness, all the names merely reflect an opinion, nothing more:8 |
I will happily say that the 34-5 is the best looking of the AB stable, but IMO it doesn't come close to a 300ER, let alone the queen of the skies, the 744-now that is a majestic aircraft to watch lift off! :D
|
Anything needing a third main strut is an ugly mutant. :yuk:
Nature would eliminate it by evolution, only human cross-subsidies keep it alive. |
hahah this thread sums up EK dysfunction! "EK to Washington" and it's about which fleet sucks the most! Hilarious.
I do feel kind of sorry for the A380 FO's, trying to make the most of a tough situation...must be hard to watch the B777 guys who were hired on the same day, now as commanders, while they toil away for a couple of years...maybe...because EK always keeps their upgrade promises, right?! A command in hand is worth two in the bush, or whatever the saying is. So I smile quietly when the talk of rosters comes up...while 96 hour rosters aren't always fun, I'll bet 100% of the B777 skippers would take it over a A330/340/380 right seat, for the options it gives them. For starters it makes the move to a contract that might get them HOME come even sooner in some cases. Even if not, the skipper pay is why people come, not roster. And IF the A380 actually one day has a critical mass of preferred routes, (assuming it's still commercially viable with it's endless maintenance issues, low dispatch reliability, fuel at $150/barrel, etc), why by then the Boeing guys would have the numbers to apply for the seat on the ugly thing. That's life, some are lucky, some aren't. Same everywhere. But I get why the need to try to proclaim the "lifestyle" better. It's all they have in the "pro" column. That, and a rating that they can't take anywhere else. Oh yeah, and the super call sign. So try to cut them a break. |
Nolimitholdem..........my sentiment exactly.
|
Shall we kiss & make up then?
|
you guys are idiots
|
Managements gotta love this!
