Ok so lets see now...

Regarding all the previous complaints from the like of Qantas and Air Canada, they claim EK operates an unfair advantage as it is a government run / owned airline and benefits the airline in a way that competition carriers cannot compete with as they are commercial entities.

Emirates has stated in the past that it is not a Government owned / sponsored airline and as such operates as a commercial company in the same way with similar rules as other operators, hence with no advantages!

So why are all the employees being forced to pay fees for fines of the UAE ID card which is for government (semi or not) employees only and not expats? Also why are those who applied before and have delayed the re-application for the card being fined when those who have never applied or paid for the card before will not be fined.

Beware new hires, this is the democracy that you are walking into>

It's not Emirates forcing payments, it's EIDA.

Who knows why.

That those who never applied don't get fined while those who failed to renew (or more like were foiled in the first place by botched equipment/systems/clueless staff) are getting fined is just par for the course.

Except it seems that there ARE new applicants getting fined also, if they were in the UAE for longer than a few months...

No, it has never claimed it is not Government owned- it's sole owner is the Government of Dubai and that has never been disputed.

It states it isn't Government subsidised and that is largely true:- it returns money TOO the Dubai Government, it doesn't get money FROM them, though it is no doubt adventagious in areas like Airport terminal space and financing to have a State as your owner.

New applicants not fined ?
 

Just to set the record straight a number of us applied for the card the other day (no previous registration) and have now received a fine of around 600 Dhms.

Question:-

Is this going to be disputed and eventually waived like all new good ideas here when they realise that beating the golden goose down is not good for the profit money they pocket from us, to pay off their debts ?

What is the card actually needed for ? So far your mobile number seems to be more useful ?

Have a look at Note 3 in the following EIDA page:

ID Card Renewal Process - Emirates Identity Authority

It states:-

Renewal of ID card for UAE citizens and GCC nationals (five years)AED 100 :ugh:
Renewal of ID card for residents (for each year of residence) AED 100 :mad:

Perhaps another M0.2 per hour per hundred AED fine should balance the books?
