New system to enhance aviation safety: GCAA

DUBAI: The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has launched a Voluntary Occurrence Reporting System (VORSY) in order to facilitate the collection of information on actual or potential safety deficiencies that may not be captured by the GCAA’s mandatory incident reporting system.

The system will be managed independently with the objective of collecting information, which might be utilised to a more proactive and predictive approach to safety.

The goal is prevention of events that affect safety. Additionally, it is not the purpose of the reporting system to attribute blame or liability. The system can be accessed its link on GCAA’s website: www.gcaa.ae.

Therefore everybody involved in the aviation sector may report what is believed to be a safety hazard. There is no need for any kind of registration and the system is freely accessible to everyone who would like to contribute.

This project was prepared and launched utilising the resources of the GCAA employees without any extra financial burden. It will be managed by the GCAA’s Air Accident Investigation Division and will be independent from all other function areas of the authority.

Therefore the information will be handled in confidentially.

Hmm, who is going to be the brave bunny who tests exactly how confidential this new system actually is? :ooh:

GCAA reporting link

Well, if you read all of the terms, you'll see that they have to release personal details to the authority/ Police if requested to do so. In answer to your question therefore, probably NOT very confidential.

To be honest, this system is designed for the smaller operators who don't have their own internal reporting system. If you work for EK, why would you want to use the GCAA system when their's one of our own?

Harry, hopefully that's irony - not naïveté :uhoh:

This is sort of like the NASA Reports you can file in the US. Hopefully a step in the right direction.

Thanks Helen. What I meant to say was;

Why use 'theirs' when there is one of our own.

Freudian slip maybe?
