Qatar Airways, what did the salary go up to for FOs?

The salary they offered back in 2010 was an equivalent to $5000 base, plus about $500 for bills and transportation, plus flight pay was about $25 per flight hour. No perdiem on flights that do not overnight. And housing for FOs provided by Qatar and FOs are not eligible for a housing alowance incase they want to get their own housing.

I was just told by a pilot that just interviewed there that they have increased all of that but he could not remember the details that all together the pacakage was about $9000. Does anyone have the breakdowns similar to what I wrote above?

Also the A320 had only 8 days off a month with all out and back trips, only 2 overnights, Stockholm and Vienna. Has that changed?

Qatar Airways jobs, payscales and entry requirements.

FO top 27227 13/Jun/11 FO base 21500 13/Jun/11
+90 Riyals per Flight hour (expect 75 hours) = 6750

+ School
+House
+1500 Transportation

You can expect 30000 a month as a Jumior FO, that comes to around $8000.

.....and F/O's can apply for and get the housing allowance of 10000 QAR pcm. There is a waiting list and people do get to move out of company accomodation.....

Not on the 320 fleet but I'm sure they overnight in more places than you say.

what s the main reason everybody prefer to find different accomodation?? cz type of flats they give u or coz the allowance that i higher than the real cost of the rent?... as a new joiner i personally think to prefer the company accomodation coz i don t have idea which area to live in and i prefer to have less stress relocating...maybe am i wrong?

The allowance is not available for new joiners, there is about a year wait list and the allowance will get you a relatively similar size place elsewhere.

Blusky ... problems with accommodation in Ain Khalid Gate are many. From the point of view of a western F/O with family, the reasons I finally had to leave that place was

- build quality of apartments is a joke, looks like something from Dhaka slums
- cleaning up dead cockroaches from kitchen floor every morning. Once in the time shortly after the rainy season, my wife and baby had to leave for a week while they fumigated the apartment a few times with strong poison to try to get on top of the heavy cockroach infestation.
- noisy, stinking trucks that park outside your house and pump from the underground sh!t tanks several times a day
- earsplitting noise from mosque if you are placed in house at the front end of compound
- Locals driving their Landcruisers like crazy lunatics right next to the kid's nursery and shop (had 2 occasions where my kids missed death by less than 6 inches)
- pool is sometimes nice, and sometimes not so nice when they don't put enough cleaning chemicals in it and you start coming out with itchy, white rashes on your skin
- kid's playground is nice at quiet times and completely unusable at busy times, due to the animal behaviour of certain groups of kids whose main sport is beating up, fighting and bullying white western kids
- Location of compound is really bad, it's close to the industrial area, miles away from the airport and even further from downtown. Villagio mall is the only place in the local area to go for decent food or shopping but it gets pretty tiresome after a few years.
- The gym in the compound to be fair, is excellent quality.

It's not a pilot only compound, it is open to the general public. So bad luck for you if (like me) you get a family next door who likes to sing Karaoke all night before your long-haul 0200 depart, or cook strong curry that stinks your whole apartment block out. You can't complain or move house because "it's not allowed".

The problem is compounded by the QR policy of giving only small 2 or 3 bed apartments to F/O's, and all captains get a 4 bed villa. (unlike EK / EY where the policy is that married with family gets villa and single guy gets apartment). So we had the crazy situation of pilots with a wife and 3 or 4 kids in a 2-bed apartment, and single captains in a huge 4-bed villa next door (renting out rooms to other people to get huge bonus to their income).

I fought with those :mad:ers in the QR towers for 3 years to get given my QR10,000 and get away from that crazy place, but it was always "sorry it's not allowed Captain". In my final year there I even went to see the GMFO and told him my situation and that I would be looking to leave the airline as soon as possible if they wouldn't let me off that compound, but it was still "not allowed". Then he acted all surprised in my resignation interview and offered me my accommodation allowance right away :hmm:

i understand your point of view and your experience...i know of people happy with their accomodation ( fo without children) and I heard that there are several flats not only in that area....can you confirm that? i know for the new joiners is not possible to have the allowance and honestly i m not interested at the moment cz it s already a big stress relocating and i would like to have the life easier at least for the first year....then eventually i will apply,,,

1. Are the apartments furnished?

2. Whats the cost of a taxi to the airport?

3. What about this Barwa City that Qatar Airways has rented out? Will they move all their Flight Crew into this place when its ready? I'm assuming many pilots will leave if the accommodation is as bad as you say it is.

TwoTone-7 22nd Sep 2011 14:48

FO apartments are in 1 of 2 places.

Ain Khalid Gate - approx an hour commute in traffic. Otherwise half it.
Holiday Villas - 25 mins in traffic or 15 mins. QR 15 for taxi.

Doha traffic is bad!

JOHN555 24th Sep 2011 01:06

What about local pilots >>

Does Qatari pilots also don't get housing allowance ???? or they have more benefits

I was surprised ...not so many qatari in QR

blusky75 25th Sep 2011 08:57

accomodation

if Ain Khalid Gate is full....which is the other place where they can send a FO? Holidays Villa? some other place? how is it done Holidays Vila?

spanner the cat 27th Sep 2011 23:40

In addition to AKG and HV there is a new set of accomodation in the West Bay area. If there are so many joining soon, I would imagine that the list of people waiting to get out of company accomodation will be emptied in less than a year.

If you end up in HV you are quite near the airport and there is a shuttle bus which will run you to the tech building (where you report) for 10QAR per journey and on return to Doha it's a karwa or bandit cab depending on which of the 2 drivers grabs your bag first :} Price around 25-30QAR.

Personally as an F/O with family I think the housing policy isn't one of the airlines best and is probably one of the top reasons for people leaving. Pay is one element of the package but at the moment the lifestyle elements seem to be having the worst effect on people.

Not sure pilots are going to be moved to Barwa City. Let's consider the facts if all staff were moved there.....:8
Lots of (mainly female) cabin crew on site......:hmm:
lots of (mostly male) flight deck on site......:ooh:
It's not going to happen.....:=:E

imnotwhoyouthinkiam 28th Sep 2011 03:03

Thanks for the response. Looking at the plans for Barwa City, it looks as though its mostly low cost apartments.

spanner the cat 28th Sep 2011 22:32

I'd be really surprised if pilots were put into Barwa City. Makes sense for the cabin crew and ground staff as they all get bussed to work by the company.

Doha teems with small buses shuttling to and from a large number of accomodation blocks. - theoretically that job would become less complicated.
