Very quick EK question
Hi all,
A very quick question - considering an EK application - what procedures does EK follow wrt F/Os doing the taxi on 'their' sector? I'm led to believe it is allowed from my searches on here.. Cheers |
Very quick answer... Yes it is allowed :)
|
you can even fly....
|
Cheers, thanks for the help!

Hello chaps,
So correct me if I am wrong, first officers get to taxi the aircraft when they are pilot flying? Is this for all fleets? Cheers. |
Yes- Even the 380.
|
A380-800 driver
I think that's the norm with most airlines |
I'm a bit curious as to why you'd ask such an insignificant question wrt your EK application?
|
Well yes you're right there.
Sorry for the blip!! |
Thanks for your input guys. Don't worry I'm not one of 'them' trouble making fo's, but it would be a step backwards to go to one of them 'one man and his dog'/411a (rip) operations.

So, first officers taxi the aircraft when they are PF, but on all fleets and under all circumstances, captains park the aircraft on stand.....is that right?
I thought BA was one of the few airlines that had this procedure, I think it's excellent, relieves some stress during upgrade training .... |
When I was in Gulf Air the Captain always taxied. In fact the first time the FO would touch the thrust levers when it was his leg was at gear up. Not sure if it still the case but it probably is.

Bombay HF... I believe the Gf B767 nosewheel steering wheel was only fitted to the Captains side.
GF had an incident during upgrade training whilst using the self parking on stand at LHR. A collision with ground equipment occured which the training Captain in the right hand seat was unable to prevent. Not having a nose steering wheel on his side... I always thought might not have helped him. He was held responsible and immediately joined Virgin as a F/O and has hopefully forgot about this. :ok: |
Also in ex Olympic Airlines on A300/600 and A340 fleets all the fo's were taxiing on their pf sector and some of them were also allowed from many Cpt's to get the plane park in the stand.
|
Just curious, aren't the various docking systems calibrated towards the captains side?
|
Some are calibrated for the left hand side only (in which case the captain parks it, usually after the F/O has turned onto stand) but most will work from either seat. Sometimes you get a marshaller which works from neither seat but that is a whole different ball game.

geez, doesn't anyone here fly with EK.......
At captain's discretion, F/O taxis except when a 180 degree turn is required and onto stand with capt only guidance from whatever system in place. |
