QA CEO on Bloomberg regarding IATA EXC. PAY
 

2 days ago on Bloomberg, Qatar Airways CEO raised very interesting question: nobody knows salaries of 3 top execurives in IATA and that public must be informed about that. I believe that is very important point and I am waiting for further development.

Top three executives?

AFAIK there is the DG (actually two of them, Bisignani leaves in October and Tyler has just started).

Then there are five senior VPs - Tom Windmuller (Member relations), Gûnther Matschnigg (Safety, Operations and Infrastructure), Mark Hubble (Marketing and Commercial), Aleks Popovich (Distribution and Financial) and Ayaz Hussain (Corporate Services)

DG had/has six other direct reports - HR guy, Senior lawyer, Internal audit, Communications, Economist and Environment guy.

All the above available on their web-site.

So if your looking for the top guys, I would say it would be either six or 12. All of these, except Hubble, are based in Geneva and will be earning Swiss Francs. Seeing as it has appreciated almost 50% against dollar in last five years any direct comparison to anybody else's currency is going to be misleading.

I'd guess that the new DG's salary is going to be comparable to what a successful airline CEO would earn as he was one after all.

I'd also suspect that their salaries aren't going to be that informative - you need to include their total compensation - car, house, bonuses, etc. Especially the bonuses.

well...u cant please everyone but he is straight to the point and factual on what he says....1) iata is not transparent
2) europe/us airlines are still getting support from their goverment so why not the rest of the world ( either directly or indirectly )
3) ipo is up to the company owner
4) open skies should be practised as preached.

whatever said..he has been managing QR well and has displayed this airline from nothing to a worlds best....WELL DONE MR.CEO..
everyone has a different management skills...and his has been proven to be reliable and works well with qr...no bashing please..just my view.

IATA on 03-Dec-2010 announced that its Board of Governors has selected Tony Tyler, CEO of Cathay Pacific, in a unanimous decision to fill the post of IATA Director General and CEO following the retirement of Giovanni Bisignani next year. It would have been difficult for the Board to ignore the importance of Asia in the industry's future and Mr Tyler is undoubtedly highly credentialled to provide the organisation with the regional expertise and industry skills for the coming years.
The Board will recommend Mr Tyler’s appointment to IATA’s AGM planned for 6-8-Jun-2011. Mr Tyler’s duties as the Association’s head are scheduled to commence on 01-Jul-2011. Mr Bisignani, a former CEO of Alitalia, is the fifth IATA Director General and CEO since its founding in 1945. Mr Bisignani has been in the position since 2002.

Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific and four other airlines have been fined a total US$504 million for conspiring to fix air cargo prices.

The US Department of Justice (DOJ) said Cathay Pacific Airways, Air France, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Martinair and SAS Cargo held meetings between 2001 and 2006 aimed at suppressing and eliminating competition by fixing the cargo rates charged to customers for international air shipments.

"This was something that was a very concerted long-term practice," said Kevin O'Connor, the DOJ's associate attorney general.

The companies, which the DOJ said are co-operating with its ongoing investigation, are charged with price fixing in violation of the Sherman Act.

"The air cargo conspirators artificially raised the prices paid to ship billions of dollars of goods," said Scott Hammond, deputy assistant attorney general in charge of criminal enforcement for the DOJ's anti-trust division. "American businesses and consumers ended up picking up the tab."

Tony Tyler was paid 1,000,000 Euros (ONE MILLION) in Cathay (per year).
I wonder,what will be his pay in IATA???
He is not going there to have pay cut for sure.

Cathay pacific was fined because of price fixing and Tony Tyler,new IATA DG was at that time CEO. Very interesting.

QR is mainly profiting, as any other ME airline, of the total lack of civilization, lack of social repsonsability and by a temporary convergence of factor ( availability of gas, oil, abesence of whatsoever form of legality accountability and transparency) Many of your fellows citizens of India are laboring under the scorching sun for peanuts?
