They verify any gaps in employment.

Verification of employment and any gaps in employment. She said my app was moving up the ladder and so she had to verify. Also was asked about my availability for an interview and start.

Sounds like if you want to fly the A380, you should have some Airbus experience when you start. You go to A330 initially, get trained on the A340 after a year or so and then have the 4 engine Airbus experience EK wants for A380 flying. At least that's what it sounds like to me...

Looks like the Airbus side will see most of the growth (percentage wise) going forward as more A380s and A350s arrive over the next 5-10 years...

Iver, having Airbus expeience won't mean you get put on the A330. If they are looking for 777 guys that week that is where you will end up, even if you are current on the A330/340. You don't get a choice about which fleet you end up on, although they may ask if you have a preference.

What are they hiring for these days? Is the bond still $35,000/3 years? Is it a decreasing bond?

Thanks for the info. Just got a call from a very pleasant Captain regarding an interview.
However, I decided not to opt for it.

I applied last week and got a call this week for the screening/interview.
I have 2700 hours on 737ng and 3000 total time.
I have read a lot of the previous posts about EK and Dubai which obvious raise concerns but I also know guys who are down their already and are mostly happy. I have a family etc and I am undecided, I could stay in Europe and upgrade with my current firm this summer and be moved to another base at my expense or give the desert a go and see for myself. I will use the 4 day assessment to see for myself and ask lots of questions as I am open minded.
Any useful tips welcome.

Most new guys are relatively happy until the rose tinted sunglasses come off, which is happening increasingly quickly nowadays, then reality hits home ie being a long way from home, being trapped with loans to pay off before being allowed to leave etc etc, its all been said before!! Wonder if your friends are still so happy after the latest financial hit. See the thread about the bonus / pay rise!

You state that there are things that raise concerns, that should already get you thinking!! At least when you get here for interview or even before if you can, try to talk to a variety of FOs /Capts here to get there views. The majority of guys will give you a good run down on what it used to be like and what it is like now!!

I repeat this again, Emirates is the LAST place you should contemplate, use it as a last resort NOT a garden of eden.

There are a lot of Pilots I work with here in the UK that are baffled with what is so bad about life in Dubai and with Emirates. Here in the UK, we don't know if we are going to have a job next week or next month, flying old battered aircraft and living in country that's gone to the dogs. Crime is sky high and that's only matched by the Taxation. We don't even get a cup of tea on board, and no pay rise for years, and the airline hanging on by a thread every time the oil price goes up or there's a volcano erupting.

I'm not for one second saying that the Emirates Pilots are complaining for just for the sake if it. There must be some positives about Emirates compared to life working for a Lo-co here in the UK. I am intrigued by the high number is EK pilots who are not happy. Why?

What we see here in the UK regarding EK is:

1. You fly brand new Boeing/Airbus with an ever expanding fleet
2. You fly all around the globe (some good places and some bad)
3. I imagine the food on board and the hotels are a reasonable standard,
along with allowances etc.
4. You have Job security.
5. Tax free salary ?
6 Accomodation paid for or an allowance towards your own place.
7. Private education for the kids
8. Decent weather all year round but extremely hot during the summer
9. Staff travel and family travel benefits .
10. Medical

I don't have any of these things. I know that all that glitters is not gold, and I am not saying that EK is the place to be either. I've pointed out a few things that may or may not be the case with EK, but could someone please explain to guys outside the UAE and EK, why life at say Ryanair or contracting somewhere else in the world, would be so much better than EK. Please guys, I just want a fair response to my thread. I am just asking what genuinely makes it all so bad, that so many of you want to leave.

Hey DRM---How much heads up did they give you for the interview?? They wanted me to come this week with 5 days notice. I couldn't swing that, so waiting on a reschedule.....hopefully......anyone else have to reschedule to a later date?

BMI 30 is the limit. How strict are they on the BMI for the interview medical?

Its the limit, it means you are fat and a doughnut from being obese. Statistically you will cost the company more in health care costs and die earlier. Unless you are ultra-fit/high in muscle proved by skin fold measurements, why would they take you? If I were trying to get the job, I'd get on a treadmill and make it a non-issue.

1. It's like a new car, after a few months, it's.... a car!
2. What a feeling of flying 90+ hours all over the world! One day in Brazil, 48 hours later in Malaysia, come back home, short break, wake up at midnight, put a smile on your face head for India, or better, beautiful Maldives, come back to your home in Dubai just in time for tea time! If this is what you call lifestyle, you'll have a blast here.
3. There is nothing worst then galley food in any airline. Might taste better in some...still galley food!
4. You are so wrong, you are so at risk here. One mistake at work, one collision with the wrong person and you are out of here (make also your homework on appropriate behavior in an Islamic country, many expats payed the high price for some non tolerated behavior here).
You are actually walking on a wire. You will be disposed with out hesitation. If you are a good boy, yes you will enjoy an expanding network with a expanding fatigue level!
5. Tax free salary, yes, please make the maths on what you will bring net back home for your savings, DHS=USD!
6. Accomodation will be their choice, not yours, it's a lottery, might like it, might not and if you or the Miss doesn't like it, tough luck. Allowance: you need to be Captain to pay yourself a family villa, F.O. will pay for a flat.
7. There's private education in every city or country.
8. If you can enjoy it, good for you.
9. Mix emotions here, great to have a e-ticket quickly, problem is can you get on board (full flight, embargo on your destination,...) At least from UK you have options.
10. Watch out and read the fine prints. This department is in a major cost cutting mode, i.e. the coverage for your dependents just went significantly down with the latest revision! They will often play the card of a pre-condition to bail out of a treatment/payment in many cases.

Watch out for the salesman, might not really be the product you wanted or where looking for! The youtube short videos (how to cope with a pilot shortage,....) are such a good picture of what's happening here.

On the short term you will enjoy most of it, it's when you'll start digging under the surface that you'll realize the true colors of this place and then, you'll start to keep discovering!

And shortly after, keep recovering!
