Thanks Bus Driver Man!

Any areas or buildings that should be avoided? Can you decline one of the offers when you arrive?

FNGDXB 30th Jan 2015 09:31

Bond starts from completion of skills test in the sim and runs for 5 years. It used to be 3 years until quite recently. Draw your own conclusions.

SOPS 30th Jan 2015 09:36

And didn't they increase the amount of the bond at the same time?

sluggums 30th Jan 2015 09:39

Yep, I think the increase of the bond from 3 to 5 years speaks volumes. What other reason would EK make this change to new joiners T's & C's?

And yes, the bond has increased from $36k to $42k. So the drawdown is now 20% per year ISO 33.3% per year.

Miami 2015

Has anyone heard back results from EK prescreening in Miami 2015

Oscar84 4th Feb 2015 13:52

Maybe Emirates is increassing the salary of their employes??

As I can see in their web the anounce that
First Officer: Monthly Salary Dhs 29,700
before was 25400

And also the same for the CPT
Captain: Monthly Salary Dhs 42,015

flyaway777 4th Feb 2015 14:38

That figure of 29,700 Dhs includes an hourly flying pay of 85hrs so no, the basic salary has not changed. In fact in hasn't changed for the last 3 years. It certainly needs to as it is neither competitive in the current market nor is it in any way relevant to the cost of living change in Dubai over those 3 years.

Almost every single positive element of working for Emirates is going in the wrong direction at the moment. Just look at the threads here about max flying hours and lack of annual leave amongst others. There is no indication that any attempts are being made to address and improve any of these issues. Quite the opposite actually.

There are better options out there, even in the this region.

SOPS 4th Feb 2015 14:48

I would formally on this forum to do one thing, thank my daring wife to provide me the option not to work ( at Emirates) anymore. I know that many, many of my fellow pilots are not in the same position,

But it does feel nice.

Emirates PSP March 2015

Hey !

I would be attending an EK PSP in march 2015 in india . Could someone tell me as to how a typical psp goes about ? incase one is successful , how soon or late do they call to complete the remainder of the selection in dxb ?

thanks ,

ddiniz 23rd Feb 2015 15:46

Yesterday FEB-22, i received a call from EK Human Resources, i've submitted my CV in DEC 2014, They just clarified my CV information and requested a possible date to perform an interview in MIAMI.

Regards,

Firepushbutton 26th Feb 2015 14:26

Hi guys!!

Also attending PSP in AMS next month. Any good tips/feedbacks about the compass test?

Thanks all of you guys! Safe flights.

Deep and fast 14th Mar 2015 23:16

So, when will they start to interview regional jet guys? IE 20ton aircraft pilots.

I just feel too rested and wanted to share some of your pain )

How will Emirates justify this flight as truly Open Skies when it is alleged 7th Freedom Rights which are prohibited under Open Skies are being utilized through the A-380 flight via Milan to JFK?

Emirates roster

Hi!
I am going for Pilot Selection Programme in Dubai shortly.

Im very courious about the schedule.
On the roadshow we where shown a roster with 4 periods with 4 days off.

Can anyone post a roster or send me an PM?

I would be very grateful.

aileron droop 16th Mar 2015 17:12

hey all ,
attending in may, could anyone shed light on the latest selection procedures, if different from the stuff posted here years ago. also what prep kits are good to buy.
thanks....

thatwasclose 16th Mar 2015 17:46

I have not seen a roster like that for years. Its nonsense to suggest you will have a roster like that. Also , ask how many guys are getting their 42 days vacation. Lots are not.

nakbin330 16th Mar 2015 18:03

Been here 7 years, on the 777, and have never seen a roster like that.

A320CaptDav 16th Mar 2015 18:54

Ek Fleet

Amongst the A330/340, A380 & B777 which would be now considered the best fleet to be on in terms of roster , lifestyle and destinations??

SOPS 16th Mar 2015 23:23

4 periods of 4 days off....I wish.

airbusgirl66 17th Mar 2015 03:03

The 777 and 380 are considered one airline...with the 330/340 being "completely another". There really is no comparison, with the 330/340 roster/lifestyle being absolutely horrible IMHO.

aileron droop 17th Mar 2015 11:22

ok that being said ...as a new joiner which fleet can one with airbus experience expect 330/34 or 380?

Mach_Krit 17th Mar 2015 12:23

they will put you on the fleet where they need you. seen guys with substantial airbus experience go to the 777...and guys with boeing experience go to the airbus. and what you are told can change short notice. so don't rely on joining a fleet...you are joining a company...for better or worse.

aileron droop 17th Mar 2015 12:46

busgirl:

why are the fleets u mentioned getting the better treatment in your opinion
newer plans ? could this change on the long run?

Plastic787 17th Mar 2015 14:10

Aileron droop it's all here even if you take the briefest of interest in these forums. The A330/340 fleet ends up doing all the night turnarounds to India and Pakistan and hence the lifestyle, rosters and quality of life on this fleet is substantially below what you would find on the A380.

You now need 2500 Hours Jet above 50 Tonnes MTOW including 1500 Hours on Airbus aircraft for Direct Entry A380. However as has been said you are joining the company not necessarily a particular fleet so you could end up on an A330 course after meeting all the requirements for the A380 and being offered that position.

joe.bloggs 19th Mar 2015 13:20

Glacier Pilot. I Have never seen 4 periods of 4 days off on my roster; that must be the marketing department. Total days off through the month about 9 to 10 on average with usually 2 between 5 flights for a block between 95-99 hrs per month. That's more realistic, though it is expected to worsen if you believe the grapevine.

CaptainChipotle 20th Mar 2015 07:15

Glacier

Our MAX days off in a month is 15, therefore having 4 periods of 4 days off (4x4=16) wouldn't happen.

SOPS 20th Mar 2015 08:36

Yes....lazy pilots must not steal from the company.

Flyboy_SG 21st Mar 2015 16:15

A380

its 3000+ on 50T< Jet plus 1500 FBW for A380.

Plastic787 21st Mar 2015 16:26

Nope. Just been reduced to 2500, as per latest roadshow and the recruitment section of the website. And the FBW has to be Airbus.

Roster

Guys, if you even think about rostering as an important aspect of your life then stay as far away from EK as you can.
You will fly max hours on any fleet now with no credit for simulator, ground training etc. I flew more than a 110h in 28 days in 2014 - if you count the two 8 hour dead heads to Africa in the midlle of the night to pick up a freighter there.
If you have leave you will still fly max hours. Done 80h in 2 weeks regularly in leave months.
Been to Oz and back and then to SFO in a week. Been to Dallas and back and then to Tokyo in a week.
And the reality is that if you bid for 5 days off in your top bid month they will book you a 2h manual handling sim in the middle. So again you can not leave Dubai.
3 days off between back of the clock ULRs is barely enough to rest and get the bare necessities done. Unless your wife does them for you. Of course somebody else will have to do your wife for you. You might be too tired or not there at all.
Read the forum.
For those who are stuck in EK it is only going to get worse. And here is the crux. Once you are there it is quite hard to leave. Kids in school. Bond to repay. And no useful days off or vacation granted to attend an assessment somewhere else. Recently an increasing number of guys are leaving EK without a job because of that. I did.
Stay well clear of EK until the company has had to park airplanes, fired AAR and started all over again by treating people in a humane way. That could be a while. Until then any pilot in EK who can not leave has my deepest sympathy.
Don't volunteer to join them.

mooseknuckles 21st Mar 2015 22:44

Don't be stupid, avoid this place like ebola.

Marsellus 22nd Mar 2015 12:11

In freedom, maybe you should change your name.. I don't understand why rostering is such an issue. Obviously there are always unlucky people that unfortunately cannot leave DXB as you mentioned. But there is many guys that actually get the leave and leave DXB momentarily from time to time..

There is so much negativity by certain people on this forum- that you almost might think EK is not worth a shot. Well done to the EK illuminati or whatever you call them..

Everyone is responsible for lowering and accepting less T&C's. We are all responsible for moving on for a better cause.. Years and years ago all was great comments but now- look at us now. Newbies destroying the T&C. Guys wake up please- you joined an Airline where no Union has its place. Don't forget that you guys didn't do anything to maintain the standard. Just accept it- you're in place where management is ruling. On the otherside- in Europe- companies get destroyed by unions rather than shiny pilots give up some expensive T&C's.

ALL BECAUSE OF THE SAME INTERESTS OF YOUR EK MANGEMENT - GREED!!

Everyone needs to accept that the complete industry outside the U.S. is getting worse and worse. Every continent has its own issues.. Money, rosters, leave, pension and etc.. Working 900 hours is unfortunate the norm!

Please don't blame guys that are in search of better benefits than their actual / former ones. EK indeed offers a very good package. But like any industry employers employ employees to work efficiently- and of course in the benefit of the company!

Lately there is only the same whining from pilots at EK. Well done in choosing topics that make newbies scratch their back sides of their heads.. Looking closely I can see the trend from a group that is out to destroy the good reputation of the airline. Unfortunately we as pilots don't have much better things to do than complaining. But just compare your life style and benefits with the ones in your own country. I come from a very wealthy country and the last 10 years everything has been going downwards.. Its not only the aviation industry!

In my humble opinion you should all face the reality and wake up from your own bubble..!

Just my 2 dirhams..

framer 22nd Mar 2015 14:32

I don't understand why rostering is such an issue.
That's because you're not actually a pilot and are not subject to it.

EK indeed offers a very good package. But like any industry employers employ employees to work efficiently- and of course in the benefit of the company!
Obviously not good enough or people wouldn't be lining up to leave. Like any Industry, employees will walk if there are better opportunities elsewhere.

There you go again pretending to be a pilot.....if your English was better some might believe you :)

Marsellus 22nd Mar 2015 14:56

Pilots are subjected to leave due to several issues and their own private reasons.

Pilots are in general followers, if one is set to leave with strong verbal skills. More will follow.. I have seen this in my current airline and can sense this in EK.

What makes you think that I am not a Pilot? Your mature comment doesn't reflect your 92 hours issue. Seems like you have sufficient time to hang around on a forum? Do you find it hard to make friends in DXB and have better things to do than crying to leave the pit.....

Excuse my language- im not english native. That something you did get right this time.

Better opportunities is subjected to individual(s) their own needs. Everyone who joined this industry after 911 is part of accepting downstream management and is participating in lowering the T&C. To shoot people off that seek info is pathetic. Just because certain individuals like you probably cannot make DXB / EK work. Be mature enough to except it and leave.

There is loads of threats here that are warning individuals of joining EK.

lospilotos 22nd Mar 2015 15:03

Yeah, and that doesn´t make you think does it...?

Marsellus 22nd Mar 2015 15:07

No- it does lospilotos!

Things are subject to change and are getting worse. But think about the time when you joined EK. The times that you required info. If you joined EK in the last 5 years you were warned also!!

White Sausage 22nd Mar 2015 16:41

Marsellus, what more info do you want??? :ugh: Everybody keeps on telling you that this used to be a great airline that is destroying itself by greed, arrogance and hatred for its employees! You still don't get it?? EK is on a downward spiral regarding working conditions! It seems that you only want to hear good things, hence you keep on asking like a child that can't understand/doesn't want to accept the truth. Obviously you've made up your mind already, so welcome to the pit. Don't complain later that nobody told you before. Confirmation bias comes to mind...:ugh:

120feet 22nd Mar 2015 17:17

Perhaps you are confused?

Marsellus,
When pilots who joined 6 years ago or more the company track record was, honoring the contract, good pay raises, and good working conditions. Now I do remember even then there were whiners. I remember a few in particular who complained about a 14 week bonus not being enough. There are the complaints about the uniform quality, and the loss of sandwiches. However, everyone here appears to be able differentiate between whining and the legitimate complaints. These are not small things the EK pilots are griping about they are the big important ones. If the complaints were simply about sandwiches and wheely bags then most everyone would take them for what they were. Bored pilots who need to complain. These complainers are legit and serious, and should be taken as such.
