Iran: UAE evacuation plan.

Read a shorter version of this Telegraph article in 7 Days... Hope it doesn't come to anything but worth a look as are some of the related articles contained in it:

Britain forms plan for Gulf evacuation in event of war with Iran - Telegraph

Iran vs Middle East...?

. . .Let's see: The invincible Iranian Revolutionary Guards couldn't beat Iraq's Army of Flintstones during eight years of war, 1980-1988; but now everybody's supposed to be scared ****less . . . ?

Marooned 31st Dec 2010 07:58

The IRG & 'Flintstones' still managed to kill over 700,000 of each other... without nukes.

In a more 'modern' war, Operation Enduring 'Freedom', the toll is already over 100,000 and increasing.

Maybe worth worrying a little bit GB.

Please can someone suggest a way to keep the bloody Americans in their box this time around? I'm just getting settled in the UAE and could do without it all going s*** shaped because the septics have an over inflated idea of their importance.

sec 3 31st Dec 2010 16:36

Its not gonna be the americans who are going to start this one. But they might have to try and help finish it.

cadidalhopper 31st Dec 2010 16:43

The Israelis will light this one off and most will be begging the Americans to put an end to it. Think twice before moving your family to the UAE if you care about them. If you haven't moved the ones you care about to a safer place by now, shame on you.

Nightfire 31st Dec 2010 16:51

Oh my dog... guys, why don't you just get a glass of alcohol-free champagne (from the Carrefour or Lulu-supermarket), get back out on the balcony and think about your targets for 2011, instead of making stupid prophecies in here?

new tomcat 31st Dec 2010 17:29

Every single country in the middle east is nervous about Iran and its ambitions and they should be. Iran already has control of Iraq and can take Mecca and Medina if it so choses.
The UAE has been the most vocal about containing Iran because they have the most to lose but so has Saudi.
Isreal probably will take out Besher (sp) sometime this year before Iran gets the bomb and when Isreal goes in that is when all Hell will break loose in the middle east. Can't really blame the Jews on this one. The Mini Nut Job said Iran wants to wipe out Isreal when they get the bomb. First Stike is key

new tomcat: nice to see that your public posts are less abusive than your PMs.

Same happened when I used to live in Bahrain and the 2nd GW was about to take off.

People started to send their families out to wherever.

Myself spent the time at the rugby club and when we heard the tornado's screaming AH we all screamed cheeeeeeerrrsss sadam.

I'm still here to write the story

cadidalhopper 2nd Jan 2011 18:59

Sadam didn't have WMD. The Iranians do.

Ladies ladies! Before everyone goes potty running around with their hair on fire.

Every responsible country puts together contingency plans for the "just in case" scenario.

Quite naturally with the large increase in expats over the recent past another look at what would be needed if/should anything kick off is sensible.

Now with the stated number of 100k uk citizens ( actually subjects but thats another story!!) being, I would think, somewhat on the low side. Could this be a bid by HMG and the IRS to find out where you are as a preliminary to a similiar tax system to our US cousins??

Just a thought as normally the evacuation plans are kept hush hush to stop any interference from less friendly parties.

Or am I being paranoid

Let's hear that self righteous garbage when you need the guns to save you.

Moggiee

So we want the FAA to come in and fix our problems at EK yet the Americans are a bunch of "septics?" Sometimes it's easy to dismiss an entire nation based on the actions of one administration (GW) but it doesn't make you look very intelligent. If I remember correctly Tony Blair had something to do with the Iraq war as well.

Sadam didn't have WMD. The Iranians do.
So that's where the things are....Better invade quick before they move them again.

The Israelis will light this one off
They are too busy growing tomatoes in their kibbutzes. I somehow think that a war with Iran is not high on their list of priorities.....6.5 million population Vs 65.9 million population....The Israelis may be accused of many things, but being stupid is not one of those.

Or am I being paranoid
No really - you think?

Show me where I said anything about wanting the FAA in at EK - I don't work there so it's not really my problem!

I remember Colon Powell and Tony B Liar telling us all about Saddam's WMD - Powell even said that he knew where they all were. Funny how we never found any. They were all a bunch of liars with a political agenda and no real plan for the aftermath - morons the lot of them (both in DC and Westminster). I resent being lied to by those arrogant, self serving, patronising bastards and I have a long memory!

From my experience in the RAF the Yanks are more danger to us than the "enemy" - I could give you countless examples of when the USAF has placed me and my colleagues in mortal danger through their incompetence. Only once did one of my colleagues do likewise.

OrryFace 3rd Jan 2011 21:19

By land or air?

Some years back the Americans ran an impressive role playing exercise in Qatar asking a number of their citizens to join in the simulation of being airlifted by helicopter from the secure embassy compound to an offshore aircraft carrier.
Curious, I asked one of the British Embassy chappies what the equivalent plans were for her Majesty's subjects should the need arise. "Don't worry, old chap," he replied, "we have got a whole fleet of Morris Minors standing by".
I love a diplomatic with a sense of humour! :)

Sadam didn't have WMD.
Iraq most certainly did have weapons of mass destruction, with a large chemical weapons stockpile.

Much of it crossed borders and is still a threat, albeit under different control.

From your experience, you never prosecuted a large campaign with the small RAF force. You don't have the manpower, the firepower, or the capability.

Forget your assessment of "incompetence." You may not be so arrogant or selective when your salvation can't be had with RAF firepower. Everybody is quick to whine about the US, right up until US soldiers are dying for them. Shortly thereafter, everyone is so quick to forget.

Snipped the inflammatory bit!

And whilst we're hypothesizing about global flashpoints, I wonder whether the UK has an evacuation plan for - wait for it - Spain.

Let's examine the facts: Franco's regime only came to an end 7 years after the UAE was officially established, so democracy is a relatively new concept over there.

At least 5 times more UK citizens live there than in the UAE. With the Iberians about to go cap in hand to the EU for a massive bailout, the government will be forced to introduce a series of austerity measures and we all saw how well that went down in Greece, for example (cue mucho rioting).

Then there is the ETA problem and those pesky Catalans, and what with Barcelona hammering Real Madrid 5-0 in the last 'El Classico', patience in the capital must be wearing thin.

We also know that Thomas Cook and Easyjet never depart on time, so cannot be relied upon for a Dunkirkesque withdrawl.

On the plus side, you should be able to pick up a chippy on the Costa del Sol for a song...

P.S. For the easily offended this, like the rest of the thread, is a joke:)
