Ek reports 351 per cent jump in first half net profits

Emirates', which has an order backlog of $68 billion for 204 aircraft on firm orders, contributes roughly 25 per cent to Dubai's economy, directly and indirectly.

Emirates reported a 351 per cent jump in net profits on Monday, with Dh3.4 billion ($925 million) for the first six months of its current financial year, ending September 30, 2010, compared to Dh752 million ($205 million) for the same period in 2009.

The airline's revenue, including other operating income, grew by 35.5 per cent to Dh26.4 billion ($7.2 billion) compared to revenue of Dh19.5 billion ($5.3 billion), for the same period last year. Fuel continues to be the most significant expense for the airline, with operating costs up 22.6 per cent to Dh23 billion ($6.3 billion).

The company, which has 201 aircraft on order, worth Dh249.76 billion ($68 billion) contributes an impressive 25 per cent to Dubai's economy.

"Emirates achieved the growth by carrying 15.5 million passengers and recording a strong passenger seat factor at 81.2 per cent, the highest ever for a first six month reporting period. Premium class seat factors have also risen by 2.6 percentage points, reflecting an encouraging change in the global economic outlook," the airline said in a statement.

I'm just glad I have a job.:}.

Okay ... I am going to light the fire... We have ignition...

When EK gave the 14 week profit share, HH asked whether this was the greatest profit share ever palmed out by any airline?
Answer: No, SQ once gave 22 weeks.

The target this time is what?
Traditionally during the second 6 months EK makes 3 or 4 times the profit of the first 6, or not?

I believe that resignations will drop to zero from now till April. Because, unless there will be:

- Gulf War Version 4.0
- Squirrel plague pandemic
- Car loan meltdown Version 1.0 in conjunction with mortgage mayhem Version 2.0
- Cranberry juice genocide
- King Kong and Godzilla attacking DXB airport together

... there is a chance EK's profit share will be somewhere near SQ's.

Go ahead: Tar and feather me. But after you are finished spouting sewage and ridiculing me, I am sure you will hold back on your resignation for a while and suffer 101 hour/month subcontinent night turnarounds like a man --- just in case.

Well said Mach5point5. Happy to say I am a putana :E Can't wait for my bonus. 12 weeks me reckons! :ok: Will probably leave after. Inshallah!

logan 1st Nov 2010 16:16

Can any one tell me how early you can resign and still recieve the full bonus?? Can't find it on the HR portal.

MrMachfivepointfive 1st Nov 2010 16:22

WH, HW or JH in HR will tell you if you ask nicely.

littlejet 1st Nov 2010 16:33

When a company is aware that most of its employees are waiting for the bonus month to resign then bonus is not on the generous side. "They are leaving anyway so why should we give them anything"…is what they are thinking.
Salary increase is always better than bonus. Bonus is just a carrot

White Sausage 1st Nov 2010 18:39

They will find a way (again) in order not to give us a decent profit share. Mark my words...

Fellowship of the drink 1st Nov 2010 19:59

Agreed.

EK beancounters will be busy scheming to sponsor millions of USD$ on some sports team, buy a loss making airline, hand over the profits to Big Brother Khalifa rather than see a penny handed to it's overworked and massively fatigued employees.

GoreTex 2nd Nov 2010 01:25

....and if they give us a bonus they will take more from us somewhere else, for the last 6 years I make every year less than the year before.
If they would have not changed the over time, they would have made even more this year, because I do not make any effort to be productive for this slave drivers.

5star 2nd Nov 2010 05:09

What is good for EK is not necessarily good for you my friends...

Just x the lastest FCIcr@p about cutting baggage allowance for crew to 23 Ks..:ugh:
And also something nice to know next time you plan your african layover:
In order to help crews NOT to protect themselves from getting malaria, Ek has decided you can't get Malarone any longer. One of the pharmacists told me it was 'so to speak' out of stock but I could get it myself anywhere in Dubai. Apparently Malarone is too expensive... They give you some third world medicine with lots of side effects because your bosses don't want to spend the money....

We are proud of you EK....

captainsmiffy 2nd Nov 2010 11:04

...there's a bloody volcano in iceland threatening eruption again, so i read this morning......!!!!!!

CAYNINE 2nd Nov 2010 11:17

.....and the miserable tight fisted  still won't reinstate the productivity back to where it was.

McGreaser 2nd Nov 2010 13:31

Funny, people are hoping the bonus will wow next year:= Highly unlikely, would be nice...but not happening (barring a major disaster or any other such catastrophy ) EK is not in the business of putting a smile on it's staff. Am sure they reckon it's bad for productivity.

FUSE PLUG 4th Nov 2010 07:45

That was the first thing I thought too CAYNINE. Can I please have my productivity pay returned to 78 hours.

twieke 7th Nov 2010 03:44

....but try to get a new pair of pants in uniform stores....not in stock for months now.

EGGW 7th Nov 2010 04:08

Try asking them for trousers ;);) Works every time for me

Now that made me laugh after ranting and raving over no malarone for tomorrows layover!
