Etihad Pilot Dodges Alcohol Test
It’s been reported a pilot of Kiwi nationality with a previous stint at Manchester based Castrol reported for a requested 9 day trip to Singapore and Brisbane and when he found out that there was a drugs and alcohol test that morning promptly took his flight bag and left operations and later reported fatigued and unfit for flying.
Now everyone is watching to see how the company will handle this matter. The pilot is a TRI in the company. A330 |
err...is this a rumour or a fact?? just checking...;):ok:
|
This seems to be serious as to refuse a drug and alcohol test.
Was it done with intention or was he really fatigue? Let's see what GCAA has got say in this case? |
it's a fact
Got confirmation that the office is divided on how to deal with him as he is not only a TRI but works in the office as well. On SOC for now :ugh:
It's not single pilot helicopters anymore! |
The fact that he showed up for duty at Ops meant that he wasn't fatigued and was ready to go for the flight. Looks like he would have continued to fly if there wasn't an Alcohol & Drug test that morning.
Whether or not he would have tested positive, he forfeited that chance to prove himself when he ran off. Indeed it would be interesting to see what the management is going to do, as this will be setting a precedence. |
Sandblasted,
I disagree on just one point, Once you have checked in, you are fair game. Whether or not you acknowledged the doctor's notification. By checking in, you are acknowledging that you legal, fit, etc...So suing wouldn't make any sense. IMHO, if he checked in, there should be disciplinary actions. If, as a crew, you know, that you are not legal for a duty/flight, you just don't check in !!! i.e you call in sick or whatever you want. you just don't go to work !! On the other hand, if he didn't check in, it's a different story !!! Just my two cents, Later |
Maybe blowing into a alcootest is forbidden in his religion.

How many times do you have alcoholtests? How do you know that you will be tested. If he just showed up and felt sick, he might not have known that he has to go to an alc test. But if he allready checked in than he confirmed that he was fit to fly, there would be no excuse.
|
Ahh... so after you check in your burst appendicitis is no reason to call sick and qualifies for disciplinary action - NOT. There can be a number of reasons why a crew can feel unfit for flight duty. There is nothing in FAR/AIM that says once you've checked in you MUST fly.
|
In EK they actually grab you before you check in......
There has been one case that I know of where the crew member refused to blow until the required 1 hour before departure duty time commenced. Delayed the flight, passed the test and not too sure of the repercussions. |
No, I don't think so. There was a guy a few years ago just went to the aircraft without taking the test. Dispatch tried to get him back. I don't know what happened, but I don't think they delayed the flight. The question is more, was the guy targeted and he knew beforehand or was he unaware of the test and just left. If so it would be unfair to dismiss him.

Boeing-man.....are you trying to say single pilot helicopter ops are unprofessional :\ They probably work harder for less money and privileges than you so be nice
|
not at all
No, I only meant the pilot in question! :ok: This whole senario fits in with his character. Always trying to be smarter than the system. Let's see if it catches up with him this time around...

Boeing-woman and Sinking330.....
As you seem to be spineless t*rds and can't deal with your operational problems at a professional level and have come here to air your dirty laundry hiding behind your smelly rodent infested cloaks of Prrundome, your efforts have been wasted! You will find out why in due course! :suspect: Your slandering and grossly misunderstood appraisal of the situation has put you below gutter level and it goes without saying, you are the scourge of aviation gossip mongering and possibly were never cuddled by your parents as children and have not coped well in your adult life (assuming you qualify as adults!)! When you get the correct information finish the thread. The great thing about a quick hack on here, is that we know who you are! See you in the corridors....wear a helmet! :} |
You don't spell "w&*k*&s" like that!
|
well said from sandyweazel and below.
Thankyou, you've restored my faith that there are still decent people left in this game. When this situation reaches its conclusion, I can only hope the original poster and his boeing buddy are outed for their despicable, slanderous and cannibalistic behaviour. I hope for their sake they never put a foot wrong as they walk the aviation tightrope! |
Right, I think we shall close this one. Innocent til proven guilty eh and don't forget the intention of the original poster, may have been to provoke a reaction, or worse.
