Etihad the new Qatar?
It seems the "management", VP's, EVP's, EEVP's and so on have nothing better to do then sit around and think up asinine policies and procedures.
So lets start.... The crew are given a plastic litre bottle of water once on board, if you don't finish it and take it with you after the flight, dismissed for theft. CC forget they have a sugar packet or plastic spoon in their apron, dismissed for theft. The crew building downtown that houses both Cabin and Flight crew has a pool and gym. It seems the "upper" management don't want any of the pilots or their families giving them competition for the affections of the CC, so FD and families are NOT allowed to use the pool or gym. So little Johnny looks out his window at the pool, but is not allowed to go there. The FO forgets his passport, the CAPTAIN gets a warning letter! My suggestion... every flight, the Capt. inspects EVERY document of EVERY crew member. Lets see what this does to OTP. A CM screws up her show time, the first mistake in more then 5 years, the response, Final Warning Letter. Hogan is on a flight that has tech problems, the crew deal it like they should, his response, get his cronie to give the Capt. s**t for not calling NOC and asking them for the gate information, which by the way is not his responsibility. Thats all i can think of now, I have another night flight, day flight, night flight, so i better go to bed, ah that brings me to rostering................ |
Get over it mate! You are in the Middle East.
As long as this punitive and mideaval mentality suits the locals and their despots and they can get away with it, they call it "culture". The moment it hits one of them or any kind of accountability is on the agenda, they call it racism and the despot involved get sacked even if he played along before (listening ED?). The crisis gives those low creatures the handy cover, so all we can do is wait until too many s#!t buckets overflow and manpower gets scarce, or for the next smokin' hole. Both "objects are closer than they appear" (listening your Highnesses?). |
Hmmm..
Yes EY has really done it this time. They should provide all expat with Palaces facing the sea and daily allowances of a million dollars. Plus, they can show up at any time and take-off at any time--NO PROBLEM! Plus, crew members should have a free membership in Emirates Palace and a free weekende in Burj Al Arab every month. Seems like they are all a bunch of whiners-- coming in our country to work, take their money, and leave. If you dont like the ME, get the hell out and go raise cows or whatever they do in Europe. |
Raise cows in Europe?
Cool attitude mate, maybe they should try to raise camels. :}

.... and the ones who miss Minarets in Switzerland should go back where there's plenty, as apparently they don't like the place the way it is? Personally I don't think so, it's everyones right to try to improve the place he chose to stay. And there's no place at all for your attitude and argument. GF |
Seems like they are all a bunch of whiners-- coming in our country to work, take their money, and leave. The environment for Westerners in the Middle East takes some adjustment and sacrifice and they should be compensated accordingly. 45C, dust, pollution, archacic laws and customs take some getting used to. Remember the old saying about the middle east ? When you arrive you are given two buckets, one for the s**t the other for the money as soon as one is full you leave. At the moment the first bucket seems to be filling rather quickly for most people. I don't think many get to leave because the second one is full. |
The crew are given a plastic litre bottle of water once on board, if you don't finish it and take it with you after the flight, dismissed for theft. CC forget they have a sugar packet or plastic spoon in their apron, dismissed for theft. At one of the oldest airlines in the middle east, CC were carrying off so much catering, they all wanted bigger suitcases to fit it all in...the company said 'enough'...and clamped down hard on this outright theft. |
oh my God,
Clash of civilizations again. Let's all take a breather! |

QTR340 and MD330! I’m sure. You aren’t from here. You think you are Arab. But you aren’t. Your country was conquered by Arab. As the goat has conquered you.:E
go in peace! |
ME rules.
Rules and laws in such countries and their airlines are designed to control the lowest common denominator... not themselves, naturally. Hard stuff. However, those dear people at QR, EY, EK, SV and the like will never run out of volunteer slaves, although there will be fewer westerners (unbelievers) in the future. The Arabs were the original slavers, history tells us. Cultural thing, then.
|
I would understand all the ethnic comments if the rules were being made by the locals, but they're not. The heads of all the departments are Aussies, Kiwi's, Brits, Canucks, and German's. So what gives?

Togalk
I hope you're not a collegue and handling some big machinery, as naive as you present yourself! It would scare me ..... If you really believe what you're saying, you would also believe that the same despots of all your mentioned nationalities would set up the same rules if they were in charge in a first world company in their home country, wouldn't you. However not one of those psychophants would survive one day within a civilised environement. Owners, regulators and especially unions would have them skinned alive instantly. Therefore it is the owners around here (locals) and the regulator around here (locals), that tacitly agree with local culture rules and let the sickos play their power display in beautiful consent. Unions are very handily not allowed around here (law set up by locals). Wake up |

Please don't mince your words. Say it as you mean. :ok:

Back to the original thread
Etihad the new QR? A rubbish comparison since none of all the ME carriers are significantly better. It is the same ME mentality, some advantages here, some disantvantages there (talking now only about flightdeck crew). At the end we all live as laborers in a dusty, extremley hot Third World country. And we are all here for one reason only, a flightdeck job to make good money, that's it, we carry the 2 buckets and they get heavier every year. Mine luckily got heavier on the money side and very soon I am finally out of here for good. I must say I saw a lot, learnt a lot, had fun but it all comes with a price and I am glad to have a choice, a choice that many pilots here in the sandpit do not have.
Only one advice I can give to the newcomers here (nothing new read it here many times): 1) DO NOT QUIT your job to fly here, unless it is really a bad a no future job. 2) Do not join as an FO unless you are unemployed. Good luck, the grass is not greener on the other side. |
FlyingCroc
very good advice, take heed all of those who are wanting to come to this desert wasteland. note: there is no grass here, and its not green by any means. Poisoned by compromise Krunch |
Got the nail right on the head croc

True,
the only things that grow here are ego, selfishness, pollution, stupidity, racism, slavery , corruption, lazyness and intellectual prostitution |
