Gentleman's Relish off the menu in KSA
I recieved this update today from the UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) in Dubai... (courtesy of being registered with the FCO's 'LOCATE' service):
We have been advised that airports in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia now have in place a new rule regarding carrying electronic devices. This rule applies to both departures and arrivals. All electronic devices must now be submitted for checking before passengers reach the immigration section. Electronic devices include:
All devices containing offensive material will be confiscated immediately. There will be no fines, and refusal will result in jail and deportation. Laptops with pirated software's will also be confiscated. This rule is already being applied at Riyadh, Dammam and Jeddah Airports in the KSA OKC Ps. For those who might feel the need for it, I can recommend the following two programs (depending upon your level of paranoia?!) :Nb. Magic Folders is seemingly an Operating System based 'file system locking' program, therein if you take the harddisk out of your laptop you can see the folders on another laptop... but if the harddisk stays inside your laptop you can't see the folders at all (and you can't even see that Magic Folders is running in the process list). |
I have a pirate copy of the Quaran
It is jpeg format, so I suppose I should be arrested too.
Seriously, is this even remotly practical, every pilgrim for the Hajh....being checks for suspect phone chips..... glf |
It's all BS
Hey Old Coal:
You're really old. This publication has been around for a while. It's all a stupid rumer. The Saudi governement has denied it completely. It's not implemented any where in the Kingdom's airports. Well, there's no means to doing it even if they elected too. Gulfsteam a.siator: Can you be more naive?! :yuk: |
_FL600_ - Ah well, put it down to me being new'ish in the ME.... and that it was genuinly emailed to me from the UK FCO earlier today (whom you'd hope would know better than to be spreading 'urban myths'... and therein more fool me if they are?!)... but my intention was good, so why not forgive a poor 'old' fool his niavety, eh?!
Fwiw, out or pure devilment it did cross my mind to suggest making a couple of truly massive files, as in Gb sized... then giving them some choice names such as 'Speared by Zulu lovers.mpeg'... such that these files would overwhelm any overseers capacity to download and / or examine them and /or, better yet, infect the said same files with a nasty virus, i.e. so when someone tries to examine / open them, well, go figure?! LOL :} |
