Sunglasses Help

Hello All,

Does anyone know of a place in Dubai that sells Serengetis?

Many Thanks

There is one place at Deira City Center opposite Carrefour's. Don't know about he selection though...

Try under LULUs hypermarket next to MOE.

The little shop in J.Beach Rd Spinneys (near Lime Tree) definately does!

springbok449 7th Jun 2009 19:28

I seem to remember that the place at Spinneys does not have the Drivers Gradient lens sunglasses, they only have polarized which is not great for flying...

This morning I have been to all the places suggested above (albeit that the address info could probably do with some work... so here goes).

There is a glasses shop, 'Optics Collections', inside the small shopping centre on Jumeirah Beach Road, which also contains a Spinney's.... it is the shopping centre directly next door to the Lime Tree Cafe.... and it has a pay & display Car Park available outside.

Nb. This is not to be confused with the Spinney's about 1.5 miles up the road, i.e. also on Jumeirah Beach Road, but inside a substantially more swanky Mall (name escapes me).

This retailer does indeed have a modest collection of Serengeti's but, as has been mentioned previously, most of their stock is either photo-chromic and / or polarised lens models.

The other place I visited was 'Al Falah Opticals', which is inside the Lulu Hypermarket, Qusais.

Nb. There is no Lulu Hypermarket inside the MoE (wherein ones assumes that what was meant by MoE is 'Mall of the Emirates' ?)

The retailer here also had a modest range of Serengeti's, but the same limitations on choice also applied here too, i.e. no models with the Drivers Gradient lens.

In summary, in non of the shops I visited did I find Serengeti's with the Drivers Gradient lens and, specifically, if you are looking for Serengeti Velocity 6935 (Drivers Gradient) and / or Serengeti Velocity 7273 (Polarised) then you will NOT find them in either of the two shops mentioned above.

Nb. A few weeks ago I tried order the Serengeti Velocity 6935 & 7273 from Sunglasses Giant but whilst all looked good to start with, it turned out they that couldn't fulfil the order (couldn't get the stock) :{ so they refunded my transaction. :D

Both shops I visited this morning attempted to locate and / or order these models for me, but it would seem that the local Serengeti main dealer / importer either doesn't have them and / or cannot get them.

So, if anybody knows of a (reputable) supplier for these two models, please do advise.

OKC

Old King Cole - no one said there was a LuLu inside MOE, but Shilling Bit quite correctly said there is one next to MOE.

If you're coming from SZR, take the turning for Umm Seqeim Road eastbound. Turn right at the first light on Umm Seqeim Road, then right, right and right again and you're in the LuLu carpark.

Thanks scoob.... that's on my way home so I'll give it go and report back.

Aside - when I typed Lulu into my Garmin it correctly located the other outlets but not that one adjacent to the MoE (my Garmin's using CNMENTv4... at least it will be until I figure out how to unlock the newer version I've 'procured' off the www)... mind you, I'm surprised with a name like Lulu that it didn't direct me straight to the Moscow Hotel or some such establishment, eh?! :E ;)

Guys,

Try Discount Sunglasses | Aviator Sunglasses | Sport Sunglasses | Golf Sunglasses | Fishing Sunglasses | Sports Sunglasses | Sun Glasses | Man Sunglasses. I got a pair of Aviator Velocity for $92 including postage - they were really good. The same pair at Deira City is about Dhs1100

Cheers

Juliet-Echo 8th Jun 2009 13:27

Sorry Old King Cole, just saw your post. Sunglasses Giant worked for me, but otherwise try Optics Planet or Peepers. Optics Planet do Serengeti prescription lenses as well - as far as I'm aware, they're the only ones that do.

Scooby Don't 8th Jun 2009 14:57

Let us know how you get on, OKC, and the prices!

In the meantime, it looks like the best bet is to try sunnies on here to find the style and shade that works, then order them online. With the price differential mentioned by J-E, it's worth using Shop 'n' Ship.

Or, because Aramex is becoming like all things Dubai, stupidly greedily expensive, appeal to your colleagues downroute in the US/Canada to kindly retrieve what would be a small package, shipped to one of the outstation hotels.

I know I try to help out with things like that when downroute, what goes around comes around...as an aside, thanks for all the info gents on Serengetis...probably the most popular brand worn by pilots myself included, so of course it's practically non-existent in the UAE...but of course lots of D&G and related ****e...:ugh:

Old King Coal 9th Jun 2009 14:44

As a follow-up, the outlet on the ground floor of the shopping centre with Lulu, i.e. the one near to MoE, is called 'Dar Optics'.

They do indeed stock Serengeti's, however the same provisos - as listed above - apply here too, i.e. a complete lack of models with drivers gradient.

Nb. Typical prices (at all outlets visited) was in the region of 1200 ~ 1500 Dhs (prior to negotiating any discount).

If you're up for a drive to Abu Dhabi, and desperate enough... The optician on the top floor of Carrefour on Airport Rd (near Maqta Bridge) has a wide selection. Not being a pilot, I go for polarised lenses, can't comment on what other options they have.

Eng AW139 12th Jun 2009 18:20

Lime tree Cafe is it a Thai place?

Old King Coal 12th Jun 2009 18:46

Eng AW139 - There's a link (in one of my posts above) to the Lime Tree Cafe's location... and see also: The LimeTree Cafe

and, fwiw (& at risk of repeating myself), the place selling the sunglasses is in the small shopping centre in the building 25 yds / metres away from the Lime Tree Cafe.
