EK: Flying on your OFF days for NIL???

Just been called to fly on an off day. Didnīt want to do it so I asked about call out pay. Guess what? You guessed right: "Sorry, no call out pay when you agree to fly on your off days since itīs voluntarily!" :ugh::ugh::ugh:
Did I get the message right? They took away our off days, screw us up like hell and then they expect us to fly on our last remaining off days for nothing???
If it wasnīt that sad it would be funny. I think now they completely lost it :yuk::mad::yuk:

why would ANYONE want to fly on an off day unless being paid productivity (near impossible) and/or callout pay.

A simple no thanks is the answer !

White Sausage 1st May 2009 16:51

Absolutely! So guys, be careful! If you really have to fly on your off days (who with a bit of brain would do that now anyway), make sure you ask about da cash...

Any pilot caught working on days off should have a life size cardboard replica made of themselves which is then positioned at EGHQ just after bag screening with a big sign hanging around the neck that says  of The Month'.

Don't be a twonk - just do not answer the phone . Cannot believe the modern obsession with mobiles etc , some people cannot bring themselves to ignore it. If NOBODY works a day off , the rates will soon go up.

White Sausage 2nd May 2009 07:15

Nowadays the call you with new mobile numbers or with supressed numbers, they are really desperate...:}

I remember another airline had the same day off procedure in place; they soon changed it when many were refusing to fly on their days off or did not bother to answer their phones. A few flights were cancelled…..I think the end result was 1500 AED for a captain, and 1000 AED for a first officer on a day off.

Most were still not willing to give up their days off!

White Knight 2nd May 2009 08:39

Even if you answer the phone - JUST SAY NO... It's YOUR day off, not company time!!!!!!!! Have some balls sir:}

radial090 2nd May 2009 08:47

Well its gotten worse apart from not getting money, you risk losing your job for minor infractions. So to reduce the risk stay home as much possible.

Volverine 2nd May 2009 22:27

After the drastic cut on our days OFF, no callout pay, no overtime and so and so how could anyone say yes anymore ? :ugh:
No family ?
No friends ?
Boring temporary accom ?
Stupid looking for some "green beans" ?
No more pork in the fridge ?
Poor guys :(
Just enjoy what we have left, few relaxing days OFF ! :ok:
How far are we from the initial advertised package to join EK and have a GREAT LIFE STYLE. :*

Keeping it simple is always the best plan. So Crewing try to call you on a day off, here are a couple ideas:
1. Know their numbers, don't answer - can't talk on phone while driving as it's illegal, they don't know you are on the sofa!!
2. If no call filtering on your home phone get an answering machine, don't answer any call until you know who it is, let Crewing talk to the tape it's amazing what they say, they don't know you are by the phone because of course you may be out shopping!!
3. If no number or number surpressed, don't answer - could be anyone!!
4. Brief your kids that if they pick the phone up by mistake and crewing ask for you, to say you're out and they don't know where you are or when you will be back. Crewing cannot ask kids to pass on a message. You could get them to talk to wife, see No5 below!
5. Get wife to answer the phone and give them an ear full - mine likes this option!
6. Of course when on a day off we have a beer the moment we get out of bed and continue to drink all day, so if they do catch you, you cannot fly anyway!
7. Say no, if they still insist then say the same reason as No6 above!!

This system has worked for years!! Wife now tries to get to phone first to just tell them what she thinks, EK can't sack wives yet unless of course I have missed yet another of Eds FCIs!!
:D

linedriva 4th May 2009 13:47

Great ideas mini cooper, but the wife is too lazy to answer the phone. Time for an ultimatum, if you want me home more, answer the damn phone woman!!!! (At this rate I'll be single soon - and in hospital!):)

GBB 4th May 2009 16:04

Just answer and tell them that you would LOVE to do any flight for them, but you had couple of drinks alredy. They wont bother calling you after couple of times. :ok:

Call Ed please!

Guys, it is very simple. Just say "no pay, no play!" Sorry, Im not giving up my day off when there is no incentive to do so! If you want someone to fly on their day of, - Call Ed, or TCAS !!!

Sheikh Your Bootie 5th May 2009 12:58

Absolutely, saw ED in a TRI/TRE's uniform last year, so he must be current on a type. :=:= Think I saw TCAS as well in a Captains uniform a while back as well habibs.

Don't work a day off for no extra, simple.

SyB

Just use a well used verse from down-route....

No money - no Honey!

Well it could apply to some of us?
