Hats and Ties at EK

Just heard from a FO, that the guy he was flying with for 8 hours one way then 9 the other, wore his hat and tie the whole time . Yup, I asked him specifically, while in the flight deck? And yes he was wearing head sets on over the hat and everything. At least the guys at QR have a reason to look like the came out of the forties. Im not sure but I think even the QR guys take there hats off in the Flight deck.
I wonder if he had the laminated card stuck up his B#TT

Interesting.

An interesting one indeed, in my outfit, even after ToC crew are allowed to put loud speaker on and headsets off.

Does he always do that? or maybe he is nearing retirement and trying to find something new:ugh: .... But indeed an interesting phenomena this day. ;)

White Knight 11th Apr 2009 16:29

If true then all I can say is what a muppet:ugh::ugh:

neh13 11th Apr 2009 16:34

Not near retirement , his staff # in the 380000 so fairly new, maybe he's never been a Captain before. Looser comes to mind.:ugh:

Kpt40 11th Apr 2009 17:09

I will bet this years profit share that he will wear it in the Sim too.:}

shneidertrophy 11th Apr 2009 17:13

Neh13,

didn't your mummy tell you NOT to comment about things you clearly do not know anything about?

You display the same amount of arrogance we have become used to see all around the world when coming across an EK crew. Lately, and I wonder why:}, EK crews have become a lot more friendly when they see their counterparts from "the goat" but you clearly are still living with your head up your A@$$.

So we look like we come out of the 40's huh? Ill take that as a compliment as those where the days where sex was safe and flying dangerous!

For what its worth: once the goat's flight deck door is closed hats and ties get thrown in the back, just like anywhere else!
:ugh:

F/O told me a tale; while taxiing for t/off, Capt (reputation for being a stickler- and I'm talking recent, not Imperial Airways days), suddenly notices that said F/O had removed his tie; put the park brake on right there and then and told him to put tie back on, which he did. Another day, another F/O, same Capt, similar scenario, but this guy decided to tell the Capt to "Foxtrot Oscar", or words to that effect (nothing in company regs requiring the wearing of ties on the flight deck).

I guess it takes all sorts to make the world go round.

trimotor 11th Apr 2009 19:43

Not sure if the EK FOM has changed, but it did say that ties could be removed on the flight deck at the captain's discretion...of course, I'm sure there's one out there that won't roll with it...

Is this all we have to bleat about today -bloody ties and hats?

6000PIC 11th Apr 2009 20:10

Kinda makes me glad I fly a Freighter , no prima donnas or wankers on my flight deck. Ties and hats...... ? You gotta be kidding , get a life.

Wiley 11th Apr 2009 22:27

Gents... It's obvious as the egg on our faces what the captain in post #1 was trying to achieve... With a staff number like the one quoted, he was after a quickie 10,000 hour 'bash' in 'is 'at. (If you hafta wear the 'at, yuh gotta look 'cool'.)

I imagine that the wife of one of our (now) longer term 'Boos captains will have heard about the new rools and will be on standby in the front galley whenever she flys to report (to Head Office) any miscreant pilot who dares to go to the toilet without first donning his tie, (as she did some years ago, when hubby was a brand new captain).

Khaosai 12th Apr 2009 00:51

Hi,

i would imagine the guy was having some fun wearing the hat and headset together. As for a guy stopping the aircraft and getting the F/O to put their tie back on, surely nobody could be such a bell end !!.

Its about time the company ditched the hat to save some costs. Ditch the silly gold wings on our shirts too.

Bring on the freighter, hopefully wont be reported for wearing my shellsuit, tucked into my white socks, slipped into my oh so cool crocks !!.

Rgds.

latetonite 12th Apr 2009 05:00

He was just getting ready to meet the CAA after his long duty...:suspect:

5star 12th Apr 2009 06:41

On a recent visit to the clinic with my kids there was a dude who wanted to be named 'captain' .... You should have seen the look of the staff.:rolleyes::rolleyes:
Well, after the capping in productivity pay, zero bonus, property meltdown, some seem to hold on to the last thing they have here in DXB.... :ugh:

On a positive note:
EK can stuff the hat, tie and recent changes in our contracts up where the sun never shines.

cost neutral 12th Apr 2009 07:39

Just do what I do. Run a SANTA flight deck.
Swearing Allowed No Ties Allowed.

:ok:

puff m'call 12th Apr 2009 09:49

Why bother to even getting wound up about it, we all know that the management here at EK are a bunch of tossers, so just carry on as before and don't think about it. :ok:

As long as they keep wasting money on this sort of crap I won't be shutting down an engine taxing in!!

Emirates Increases Support of Cricket and India

DUBAI, U.A.E., 11th April 2009 - Emirates, the Dubai-based global airline, strengthened its commitment to the cricket world and to India on Saturday; by becoming the Main Sponsor of the Kings XI Punjab IPL team.

shneidertrophy 12th Apr 2009 09:53

Thats worrying!

Now you have gotten me really worried about the state EK is in!

No seriously, I knew here in QR we had some pilots demanding from everybody to call them Captain. This was leading to some incredibly insane conversations in the hallway going like this:

Good morning Captain.

Ah how are you doing Captain, everything ok?

Sure Captain. And what about yourself.

Very well thank you Captain. And how is the Captain's family doing lately?

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

There even is one guy, and I know 100% this is true, who demands his wife and kids to be calling him Captain!

So yeah, I thought that kind of behaviour was reserved for the best airline in Doha. But it seems like EK is taking over all the good habits these days.

Way to go!:ugh:

White Knight 12th Apr 2009 12:34

Don't worry shneider me old chum - we'll crush the 'captain' revolution before it gets too far:ok:

A hat's only useful for putting epaulettes, ID, e-gate card, keys etc in when in the hotel room - makes a good container..

As for no rucksacks, backpacks - well, I find a plastic carrefour bag to be very good for carrying the old EK jimjams through the terminal these days:}

CRS 12th Apr 2009 14:27

WK I think a Choitrams green bag has a little added class. It certainly caught the eye of the security screeners and made them smile!!!!!!!

White Knight 12th Apr 2009 15:02

ok, ok - how about a 'Park and Rob' bag for the ultimate in classy plastic bling:}:}

GoreTex 12th Apr 2009 18:08

"On a recent visit to the clinic with my kids there was a dude who wanted to be named 'captain' .... You should have seen the look of the staff"

I am sure its the same one who reported a cabin crew for not calling him captain when he was a pax in 1st class.
