AUH Formula One Ticket Prices
So I was actually excited that formula 1 was coming down to the emirates, not a fan of it or a hardcore follower, but just some one that has always wondered how it will feel to sit in a race track.
But all that excitement was quickly tarnished when i got to know abt the ticket prices. dont want to be called lo baller, but these prices seems to be......too much? That is assuming they get it completed - the track that is. Rumor is Montreal is back in the running because they are scared (rightly so) that the track and surrounds will not be completed in time.

Ticket prices are high because they are only allowing 50,000 spectators (according to a report I read somewhere - forget where now...)
Having said that - grandstand seats at the British GP just for the Sunday were £200 - and that was to sit in the bloody p!ssing rain, freezing cold, to catch the occasional glimps of a car through the spray! Couldnt see anything at the start - but still worth it to see Hamilton win, had to keep calling home to find out what was happening though, as you couldnt see one of the big screens |
The ticket prices are a disgrace and an exercise in elitism worthy of this part of the world. I would love to go but there is no way I will pay 1200dhs for the priviledge. Incidentally if you are particularly well healed a three day padock and pit pass can be had for the amazingly good value of 16,000dhs I believe.

Anyone know the price of a one-day ticket on the day of the race, and where you can buy one?
PS: The Grand Prix de Montreal is (was) a hugh, fantastic party, you really didn't need to go to the track at all! |

Minimum 50ft boat in F1 Marina
We asked if we can come by boat to the F1 race and park in the marina?
"No problem, no problem", they said, boat must be at least 50ft in length! :eek: If you got a 50ft boat, the ticket prices are considered cheap! Demand supersedes the quota of tickets, so they can ask what they want, but I am still going. So much for the inflatable boat!:} |

If anyone ever goes to track... then have a look at kangaroo tv... It's basically a hand held TV where you can choose any camera angle which you want to see and can follow any car and other goodies...:ok:

F1 has not always been expensive. I used to go every year to my local GP, on my Bicycle, chain it to the fence, Pay with my allowance and have a ball. This was in the late seventies, early eighties. Scheckter, Prost, Arnoux, Tambay, Hunt,Petersen, Villenevue etc. ..... And then came along the money grabbing Ecclestone and all that changed. :ugh: Can no longer afford it, but still watch every race on the box. There is no excuse for the absolute greed of these people. The sponsors have covered most of the cost anyway. |
what abt for ppl like us
No offence to any body..but what abt for ppl like us that dont have so much to spend but want to actually go to these places. Why do they only have the grand stand, why cant they have a normal seating arrangement and charge less? that is what i dont understand....are all these event only made for the rich?

Thank God for Bahrain Sports 2 - every practice , qualifying and race so far - and BBC commentary to boot on race day -brilliant.
I also had grand ideas about AD GP - no more after seeing those prices. Sadly , most of those attending on the day will probably be paying nothing !! |
Check out the bahrain gp....prices are cheaper......university grandstands are great....

50,000 capacity seems reasonable considering that Bahrain has never got over 45,000 spectators, yet has been going for several years. Take in to account hotel capacity in the area and it is even more understandable

This event is being heavily advertised. If you believe the 'story' on the radio (Radio 2 etc.), some of the grandstands are already 'sold out' (at Dhs 2k for the main stand... in a recession...). Does anyone have any accurate information on the number of tickets sold/number still available and the state of completeness of the Yas Island circuit?

I can see the Yas Marina Complex from my balcony and it appears they have a looong way to go before completion. High rise cranes still all over.
Seems to me they should be doing finishing work at this time with less than 7 months to go. If you allow 2 months before the race for punch lists, troubleshooting systems and working out the bugs, there is a lot of work left to be done in less than 5 months time. |
Don't panic, they might still pull it off. The track in BAH was no where NEAR ready approx one month before, but never underestimate the guys wielding the whips over the poor fellas doing all the hard work :ouch:. One the first race day the place looked great.
Also ticket prices seem a bit cheaper than AUH. Gotta have somewhere to stay tho, cos as ptr120 says- there's not enough hotel capacity. It's a great experience, got to be done at least once. But to know what's going on- it really is better on the telly. Although I've also heard those kangaroo TV things are good. M |
These prices are the norm and as I do about 8 or so a year...I will probably need another 10 years here in the Middle East to pay for them all!! :p
The most expensive grandstand seating is Monaco where an average price in the main waterfront area is about 5-600 Euro for the 3 days. The track is due for inspection by the FIA in August and by all accounts everything is on the rails. The man managing the building of the track, Philippe Gurdjian, has a top reputation in the racing scene as 'the fixer' and has feathers in his cap including Malaysia, Magne Cours and ensured the Bahrain International Circuit was ready on time so am fairly confident he will get the job done. David Coulthard (retired F1 driver) is in town for the week part of the Red Bull Air Race. He went out for a looksy around the track today with one of the RBAR pilots.
