UAE licensing

If you fly for a company in the UAE, do they give you a UAE license or is it just a validation on you home countries license? If it is just a validation, do you have to keep your home countries medical up to date? That could get kind of burdensome traveling back and forth to keep your original license/medical valid. Thanks.....

You get a local licence from GCAA (General Civil Aviation Authority) but if you need to keep your home licence up, there are FAA/JAR medical examiners that can do that for you at a cost.

Thanks for the info. I think I would just let my other license lapse......

yes you do get a local licence

But it is actually issued based on your overseas licence.

When issued a full GCAA licence is not tied to your base licence.

The medical is a full GCAA initial medical, slightly more difficult, (in my opinion) than the JAA recurrent and FAA recurrnet. Which might cause problems for the oldies.

Thereis a very good local medical centre: GMC with Dr AKEL, they do GCAA JAA FAA and I think HK.

Do you think most guys keep their home medical up? I'm looking at going over to Fly Dubai in a year or so and it would just be one less thing to worry about. Secondly, if you were to want to go to China and fly after the middle east, you could just use the UAE license info to get a job over there, correct? It would be the last location that you actually flew...just thinking...

New to all this. Just got an interview offer at Fly Dubai, but had to turn it down because of some family health issues.

& watch out for the medicals..... sounds like they are going for the 1% rule.....:ugh:

Not sure that this is correct! I have been told that the GCAA license is revoked when resigning and can not be used during your next interview! I wanted to let my previous license lapse and, if required, to have my GCAA license validated if I go back to my home country.

Any better info available?

keep base licence

Your GCAA Licence is based on your residence permit, and the company sponsoring you, (often the same).

So you will loose your GCAA licence if you stay out of the UAE for 6mths and 1 day....

Beware, it is not a real licence.

JAA renewals

Could someone explain me if performing the annual type rating and IR renewal check in Emirates it automatically renews your JAA ATPL or you need to organize by your own?
Thanks so much

fabbry,

Automatically, no.

A couple of out TREs, however, are also JAR TREs and can renew your JAR license if you do your PPC with them.

Thanks so much Wizofoz
