EgyptAir gets rid of it's B737-500s

Finally Egyptair sold it's fleet of 4 b737-500s, scheduled to be delivered to buyer at January 2009. the planes came in service early 90s.

Currrently EgyptAir has 5 B737-800s with 7 more on Boeing delivery list. Held back by the strike at Boeing the next delivery was postponed to March 2009 instead of December 2008.

Seen at this link is one of the planes with no color scheme in preperation of the sale.

The B735s were originally due to leave the fleet in 2003 when the then 5 new A320s arrived but their retirement was postponed due to an upsurge in traffic.

The remaining 7 B738s and 6 E-170s arriving by 2009 will take care of the loss of the 'Baby Boeing' capacity.

MSR001, I believe the 6th B738 will arrive by year end to be operated on GVA. The seventh will go onto VIE in early 2009.

LCA, BUD, BEN, EBB, ALP are currently all-B735 ops. In addition KRT, DAM, BAH, etc see the aircraft several times a week.

What is planned for TLV (and Air Sinai)?

Certainly an end of an era. Now for the 5 1991 build A320s...

An update, it's now disclosed that the buyer is Alexandria Aviation. A Jordanian-Egyptian company with bases in Amman and Cairo.
Also the E170s are planned to joing EgyptAir Holding Co as a wet lease while new planes are to replace them, type not yer known.

Yes I heard the B735s will join Alexandria Airlines & Jordan Aviation. Currently KHH (Alexandria Airlines) operate a single B735 (ex-Luxair).

So the 6 E-170s arriving next year will not stay long? What about the original 6 E-170s? The 20%+ increase in traffic at CAI has largely been driven by EgyptAir Express and rapid growth of the domestic market.
