Emirates take training pay to cover costs...
 
1 month off in 4 mandatory to save money, ie: take the money out of the trainers pocket and put it into the company's coffers. Must have taken PP at least 30 seconds to resist this one.

Perhaps we can come up with some more ideas for our more senior management to save some money if we are that badly off.

Nothing surprises me. Where did you get this info from, as nothing official to the trainers yet.

The only way they would save money would be if they now have too many trainers. Which is kind of hard to believe.
Each trainer would do less training, so they would need more trainers which means they have to pay more to train those trainers etc i.e. more cost not less.
It may be a welcome break from the continual grind for trainers to have this month off and help with the retention of long time trainers as well as provide more capacity for increased training loads when required. This may help reduce the requirement to out source training and shorten the time required to train crew which is where they would save money.
The month that you don't train will probably be your top bid month so you will get to fly where you want, receive more flight pay, overtime and or have more time off. You wont be training so you wont get paid training allowances, so what! If your finances are in such a poor state that you can't cope with it you need a lot more help than anyone on pprune can provide.

So I expect that C4U and BA will be told that their services are no longer required as well? They have cost way more than if we had endeavored to train in house in the first place.

The decision was taken in the best interest of the company 'and' us apparently but I see only gain for the company and whilst I can cope SW it is the principle again of doing what they want, when they want to whomever they want.

Escalating fuel prices are forcing Emirates to increase cost saving targets significantly, according to the airline's top executive.

"With fuel now accounting for 41 per cent of our total costs, we absolutely have to increase our cost saving targets. At the time oil price rested at $115 per barrel, Emirates aimed to save about $100 million (Dh367m) in costs. Oil is currently priced at $143 a barrel. So, you can determine the increase in our savings," Emirates' President Tim Clark, told Emirates Business.

He had recently said that Emirates was planning to increase its initial cost saving targets of $100m by 50 per cent this year to $150 million due to escalating oil prices.

"But now with oil at $143 a barrel, we will need to increase out cost-cutting targets even more. We have a team working on it," Clark said. "And it is becoming even more difficult now since we had initially budgeted everything based on oil prices at approximately $105 a barrel. So high oil prices are as profound for Emirates as it is for any other airline," he added.

Besides increasing fares, the airline is taking some drastic measures to combat soaring fuel prices.

Emirates recently suspended the launch of its Durban route in South Africa, initially due for launch in December this year.

It is also possible that Emirates may not be placing new aircraft orders at the forthcoming Farnborough International Airshow, one of the largest air and aerospace trade shows in the world to take place from July 14-20, according to Clark.

"The oil price at $143 is making it very difficult for carriers to survive across the world. Though our aircraft orders stay intact… as in we would not be cancelling any of our orders, and we also may not look to placing any other fresh orders," he added.

"With 24 carriers worldwide already gone bust, he expects up to 20-25 per cent of world airlines' fleet to be grounded over the next few months. We are keeping our heads above the mark," he added.

Besides, Emirates recently said that starting October this year, the airline would be abolishing the base (seven per cent) commission for its UAE travel agents. The carrier also had to push back the launch of its two US destinations this year – Los Angeles and San Francisco, following aircraft delivery delays of its four Boeing aircraft.

Emirates would now start services to Los Angeles from October 1, a month later than scheduled, and to San Francisco from November 20 as against October 26.

"Though the obvious way to save costs is to recover it by the way of ticket price increase, which Emirates has already done, we will be taking all other possible steps to save costs," Clark said.

But while airlines across the world are shedding weight by the way of laying staff off, Emirates is strictly against it, according to Clark.

"American carriers are downsizing in a big way. But Emirates on the other hand is making sure that asset utilisation results in high profitability," he said.

We still send crews to Singapore, London and Berlin at much greater cost than training in house and instead of ceasing the outsourcing we cut our own guys... Where is the logic? Spock?

We have the simulators, we have the trainers but we still have Alteon, BA and the least experienced bunch of all C4U doing our job for us... and taking money out of our pockets for the privilege.

The lunatics are running the asylum.

Save money? Base people in Oz, Uk, Singapore and US. Company saves bigtime. No worries about the water and electrics.

It's only for 777 trainers lads, hence 'bus' trainers won't get the email. Pretty easy to see the reason - delayed arrival of four 777's so therefore lots less training for the next few months. No big deal. :hmm:

Bandit FO has correctly pointed out why not base crew awy from sandpit and save lots and lots of cash for housing and keep lots and lots of happy crew, they will seldom complain on pprune again.Win win for all.:ok:

In this region the mere thought of win-win would mean WE would win something ..... and any imported laborour winning makes any dish-dash blush a whiter shade of pale ..... it would take daily losses of Etihad's magnitude to change this perception .....

Forget the basing for about three years of no profit share .....

I have to admit that when I saw Tim before the "WE ARE UNSTOPPABLE!" sign, I was uncomfortably reminded of another "CEO" recently standing in front of a "Mission Accomplished" sign - and also of the sign that was reputed to have been on the side of the Titanic - something along the lines of that God couldn't sink this ship, wasn't it?

The word 'hubris' came immediately to mind.

You know the ones of this world, fails command interview but continues to train Captains.

Relax, if you are a well respected tre you may choose to train or fly the line.

Unless anyone can enlighten me I see it as a massive win win for the company and pilots.
Yes, but who owns the company? Yes they have to pay Rent, Power, Gas and Water, but who to?

Having our wages put back into the local economy is a win for the people who ultimately call the shots. Emirates exists to help the development of Dubai, and our actual profitability is a loose change bonus compared to the airlines contribution to the wider economy.

I do think the day will come when even THAT won't make having only one base practical, but I think it will be a case of having a hub elsewhere, rather than people being allowed to be domiciled at current destinations.
