EK March Roster Disaster

Sneak preview of March roster reveals the worst. 13years seniority, top bid and 4 night turns. Planning claim these were not manually inserted. Right !

Seems that EK Management's post is spot on. The end is near. How can they be so stupid as to erase the final thing thats good about the job - a couple of non punishing months. Also no more that 4 days off in a string.

In all my time here I have never had such total disrespect for the muppets that are churning this rubbish out.

Time to do something

All I can say is I'm glad I'm in the bottom bid groups while this farce is playing out. Having said that, I'll happily help out someone in the top bids group by doing one of those turns (if I can)...if only to f*** over this new policy.

If we all help out, and the top bid guys then press two for one or two of those ****ty flights left, then it'll defeat the purpose of the policy. Not much more we can do..but we really must take some sort of stand against this.

The time has really come to do something. I hate the thought of being held a virtual prisoner in the country, and working my arse off every single month without a concern whatsoever from our management about our health.

Put me down for one of those night turns...I'll happily let one of my colleagues head home for a decent string of days off.

GuessWhat 20th Feb 2008 16:12

Never done night turnarounds before in my top bid month - won't do it now either. Forget it. Period.

dooner 21st Feb 2008 08:30

Hmmm...

Have we not come full-circle here, I remember about 3 years ago AAR was quite upset over the number of days off some guys had (despite flying a full 90 hour block of longhaul flights), so he had the rosters fixed to limit our days off.

Over time reality of the flying crept back in and we had our months of plenty of OFF days. Well here we are again back at that same issue. Lert me guess what will happen this time, just like 3 years ago guys were booking off the night turns...oh we have resvere coverage says the management guys, by the way has anyone noticed the number of available res. lines up for bidiing has gone from 4 to 10 each week in April on the Bus fleet.

So crew sched calls out all the reserve guys to cover the the turns...soon no more resv. guys and the phone calls to all the guys who have days off will begin...again... this sounds just like the scenario 3 years ago, it was expensive then and judging by the current sentiment, it could be even more so now.

March Roster, mid bid: 14 days leave, 11 days off, of which 8 are consecutive. That said, they come before a 24 IAH layover, for which we know that 145 hours free of duty are required prior. Overall, purely subjective assessment, not too bad for mid bid.
The ASR will of course be going in for the 24 hour IAH.

Sheikh-It-Easy 21st Feb 2008 18:56

7 consecutive days off. bottom bid. 14 days off in total. Question is, whether it will get better or not.

troff 22nd Feb 2008 02:51

WTF?

Top bid. Reqested YYZ, NYC, UK, SA, max 5 days away...

Got pointed in the wrong direction: SIN-BNE-AKL, SIN-MEL, CMB-SIN-CGK... and a night Mumbai!

WTF?

I bid to AVOID SIN, (literally) night turns, and all things OZ, save for PER...

Troff,

Talk to the CRS guys, they will be able to tell you what went wrong. Did you ask for a long string of days 1000 pts each? Apparently with the new lovely rules, to get you that string and the 14 days max it will fill your roster in with garbage, usually turns.

Givem a call, maybe you can stop it from happening again.

EK Rosters

I guarantee they will pay less in overtime in March, than they did in January. We will have to check with the CRS guys. The bean counters are doing an excellent job of cutting cost.

Imagine 2 pilots with rosters of Kuwait turnarounds, 5 days on duty, 2 days off (Block 3.25 hrs * 22 days= 71.5) then you have 2 other pilots that each have 2 Houstons (32 hrs.) and 2 europe trips (13 hrs), so their block would be 90 hrs for the month (this was my old roster). So the company is paying an around 24 hrs of overtime depending on month.

Now you have the new system and each pilot has 1 Houston, 1 Europe, and split up the turnarounds 5 or 6 each. Now that is 32+13+19.5=64.5 hrs which mean 0 overtime pay.

Yes, the company will save money short term, := but I bet they will have a harder time trying to cover callouts and over the long run guys will leave for
a schedule to their liking.

Fart Master 22nd Feb 2008 07:13

I'm top bid, and all of my flights bar 1 are ones I wanted to avoid, time to dust off the CV I think:mad: .....well f****d off

menard 22nd Feb 2008 07:59

With a good fleet seniority (top 20%), two night turns in my top bid, although I bided against them. Did not get most flights I requested. This roster is almost a copy of my "second top", which I was disapointed with.

Before 1 year ago I would never get night turns in my "second top" and "top".

From approx. 1 year ago, I started getting them (Night turns) in my "second top".

Now, two of them in my "top"!!!

Just had a look at my friend's roster, bottom bid: 9 days off !!!!

What is the next surprise, maybe a change in the credit system? rising max hours?

Lets wait and see.....or?

SOPS 22nd Feb 2008 08:19

2nd Top....got everything I bid to avoid, plus a manual insertion to break up a long string of days off....I am very very very pi@@ed off:ugh::(

L1011 22nd Feb 2008 10:07

Rad Nav - what exactly is your point?

Do you want this guy's roster screwed up?:ugh:

Doubt that 'quick' and random' should be applied to your scan. Obviously you are one of those obsessive types who like to see what your colleagues are doing and then whine about it.

get a life man.

barkingboris 22nd Feb 2008 11:06

Shafted

2nd top in Feb but had some days off BUT 5 non requested turn arounds.
Just received March top bid roster and yes i have 9 days off in row which is great but 5 lousy night turn arounds and only one flight i requested.
I am happy to have days off but as a senior FO coming up to command ,ie senior in pool the 5 turns are not great.
It seems like everyone has a roster not compatible with bid groups:mad::mad:

yankee22 22nd Feb 2008 13:17

Second top bid group this month.... and all I essentially requested was to have the 2nd through the 4th off.

And guess what.... I have a SAH turn around right in the middle of it. Are you kidding me???????? Second top bid group and I can't even get 3 days in a row off.

Unbelievable...... where is this all going?????

SOPS 22nd Feb 2008 14:01

I know exactly how you feel Yankee..where is all this heading?

Lord Flashhart 22nd Feb 2008 14:28

I think the rostering is only going to get worse for the airbus guys once the 380 starts getting introduced.

(good for the 380 guys)

fo4ever 22nd Feb 2008 15:24

Mid bid group.

6 turns, 3 long haul and 9 days off. Max 2 days off in a row.

91 hours

This is 3 consecutive months with only 8-9 days off.

= not happy at all

Cyberbird 22nd Feb 2008 21:07

what a fu***ing roster for a mid bid group:

I have the minimum of 8 days of, max two in a row and with 5 days of leave they still shaft me plus 80 hours...........
furthermore, I've just got 1 flight i've been bidding on, but 3 i'm massively trying to avoid, by bidding against 'em - how can that be !?!
What a clown our Mr. Ed really is !!:ugh:
it's time to use the No. 2 Button on Evita more often
