I thought EK pilots already were decently compensated for inflation.
But either way, it is a 'bonus'. If they were going to add it in on the contract they might as well just give you a pay raise instead. But then again, us pilots still want a bonus on top of that now wouldn't we?
That's how the world works, the higher ups don't do much and they earn millions, they obviously had the right connection to get up there.

No, our pay increases have been WAY below any inflation numbers.

We are all losing ground when it comes to savings or lifestyle

Thanks for the reply Rev.Now a small spanner in works..will have to think carefully. My wife is also a pilot hoping to follow me to EK so both of us will be working for them.I have got a few months yet to make decision hopefully as recruitment despite desperation for flight crew don't seem to be very efficient. But thanks again Rev.

Interesting observation Viking...I can't decide if you are saying that is a good thing or a bad one??

The only mechanism at EK that employees have for improving conditions is supply versus demand. And for pilots, now is as imbalanced as it has ever been, meaning now is the most likey time for an improvement in Ts and Cs forced by the shortage of supply. So it is sobering to see that things actually got a bit worse, therefor don't hold your breath for the improvement. If it doesn't happen now..it never will.

The 5 stages of Emirates:

1-Denial-"this can't be happening to me - 6 months-1 year: I gave up a reasonable job in my home country with reasonable prospects to come out here. The recruiters told me how brilliant it will be and how well respected and treated we would be. I told my wife and kids how great it would be...no, no it’ll be alright…

2-Anger-"why me?" 1 - 1.5 years: Now the honeymoon is over and the fatigue has set in. Rosters are crap and I didn’t get all the leave I requested. And where is all the money going? I thought we’d at least have enough to cover the mortgage back home as it won’t rent and stuff here is getting more and more expensive... Command date has been postponed again; DECs, training issues leading to delayed orders have put it off for a while.

3-Bargaining. 2 - 3 years: It must get better, there are too many of us getting shafted. I’ll write to Ed, better still TCAS, I’ll even vent a bit on PPRUNE and see if I’m the only one feeling like this…

4- . Depression-overwhelming feelings of hopelessness, frustration, bitterness, self pity, mourning. 4+ years: Been here a few years now and nothing has changed, well it has; it’s only got worse!

5-Acceptance-there is a difference between resignation and acceptance. Should I stay or should I go? Stay, accept it all and come to terms with it or find a decent job, even one with taxes, and get the hell out of here… Getting out won't be easy though, provident fund has sunk with the dollar and didn't have enough on arrival to risk putting it into property here (:{). Back to stage 2 for a while.

EK, Keep Recovering.

Lets face it boys and girls. No matter where we go it is all the same. We all get shafted one way or the other. It is How much we get shafted that differs from company to company. Record profits and minimal profit share but at least there is still one. What matter to me more is the rumoured payrise that we might get in May. Hopefully, it is a good little jump in basic salary.

Provident Fund

I have some questions about the Provident Fund.

Do you have complete control and access to it? More specifically, are you able to direct the monies to different funds/investments?

When during the year is the company "match" put in the account? Specifically, what is the scheduled distribution of the money?

If you can't direct where this money goes, is it going to be a simple vested amount?

When I become vested after 7 years, can I withdraw the money and reinvest it elsewhere without big brother (IRS) getting their chunk?

Do I have to wait till I leave the company to get my money?

I am reading all the posts on the status of the company and am trying to make an informed decision on coming to work here. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
