Problem Landing at Istanbul (not Constantinople)

Just heard, a GF flight into Istanbul this arvo had to pull up a few feet off the ground when the pilot realised the landing gear wasn't down. Then circled around for 30 mins until successful landing greeted by all the usual firetrucks !!

Landing Gear!!!!!

How can that be!!!!???????. That should be priority number one before landing. MAKE SURE THE BLOODY WHEELS ARE DOWN.:eek:. Was it a mistake??, a fault or did both captain and F/O just forget about the fact you need wheels to land one of these puppies.

From Istanbul wıth love you guys are idıots. The go around was done three mıles back due to an ındication problem and the checklist was followed wıth a landing ın less than 15 minutes. Check your facts before you post.

PROFESSIONAL PILOTS RUMOUR NETWORK...........really! Oh shame!

JoeJack 21st Nov 2007 17:22

Fact is that crew operating IST today is now resting over there, which doesn't happen in normal ops.
The Capt. is a well known "weak link"... already failed once... glad to hear that nothing really serious happened.

Safe Flights!:ok:

Maybe they are resting there due to whatever the problem was cos they would have had plenty of duty hours spare. JoeJack as to your statement regarding "weak link" as they say people in glass houses...

Ibn Kalb, you really as advertised by your name. No aeroplane will "pull up a few feet off the ground when the pilot realised the landing gear wasn't down". Come on have you not learnt anything from this forum? Obviously you have nothing to do with flying.

boiler 22nd Nov 2007 02:52

ok I am no pilot, but don't planes have warning audible messages that the landing gear is still up as the plane is approaching to land? The whole thing smells fishy.

Ibn Kalb 22nd Nov 2007 05:00

Chuck Y and Fastball - you make this forum worth reading!

Chuck Y - are you having a go at me because of one of my previous postings was critical of your posting (posting not you, please note)?

Fastball - this is the "rumour" network not the "fact" netowrk. So I can post whatever I jolly well like!
