Saudi Royals buys first private A380

I reed with interest a article that the Royals bought their own private A380. Apparantly the news will be out today at the dubia show.
Can anyone confirm or deny?

Avman 11th Nov 2007 11:26

I thought Roman Abramovich was the first private buyer of the A380?

Sheik Masimur 11th Nov 2007 11:41

Sir kamara how do you know about it? this was not released at the show today. but i can reveel that it is true as airbus men was in good mood today ha ha ha thanks to EK

Bearcat 11th Nov 2007 12:26

no matter how much money or power one has, buying an A380 is a vulgar display of wealth.

Jetavia 11th Nov 2007 14:53

.. or just very bad taste ;)

Guys, so buying a DC3 would be OK yeah?

Well if that's OK, then its just a question of 'how big"/ If you have four wives, a bunch of kids, loads of grafters and hangers on, a few "secretaries/hosties" for executive relief when the wife is out of sight, you need something this big, trust me.

Four Mothers-in-law, no sorry not even a DC-3 is worth that much stress.:uhoh:
Now a Constellation or Stratocruiser and I would seriously consider it:confused:
Be lucky

Yup, or even Short Sunderland

I don't suppose Mr Abramovich really cares as long as his is bigger, heavier and more expensive than Mr Putins IL96-300 :oh:

For the sake of having four wives, I'd take on four mothers-in-Law and the DC 3, no problem. I will use the the DC 3 to get rid of the mothers-in-law and enjoy the 4 wives!

A reasonable choice...and oddly enough, having personally previously flown both types, you would appreciate the Stratocruiser.
Refined luxury at its best, provided of course that one did not run out of 60W oil....:}

mutt 12th Nov 2007 05:51

Alfred,

Its a badly kept secret as to who has ordered this aircraft, but i think that you will find that out of respect to a "friend", the secret wont be revealed on Pprune :)

I bet you wont say that to me when your sitting in the right seat to me.

I repeat a shameless in your face vulgar display of crass wealth. An airplane designed to move masses of people and not really for a few individuals on  runs up and down to geneva etc.

If I could afford it, a big twin, not in your face, you can park it discreetly...but not this puppy.

Yup. It was parked at Gate F12 this afternoon with a green 'Kingdom" decal on the side. The prince himself visited in his private B747-400ER (which I guess is being replaced by the A380).

PPRuNe Towers 12th Nov 2007 15:04

Mutt,

You know how it is out here mate. Covers are off the project now - they've had their moment under the flashguns, the fanfare's died down so no toes are now being trodden on.

Rob On your patch tomorrow PM

Basil-Fawlty 12th Nov 2007 15:56

Mine is bigger than yours

The view in the Arabian lands especially among the high ranking sheikhs is size really does matter. The purchase of the A380 has nothing to do with whether it will have sufficient parking space or will it be economical, will it be used for shorts trips or long trips nor does it gulp a lot of fuel. Believe me I can tell some stories of what some of the B747 VIP I came across are used for!! This is all about mine is bigger than yours, and that, my aviator colleagues, is the bottom line in the ME region. If you ask me I say good luck to them. Today is their turn to enjoy it, tomorrow maybe not, but then again what do I know about airplane and sheikhs? I am only a hotel owner in Torquay!

Safe flying to all from Sybil,Polly and Manuel!:ok:

Desert Diner 12th Nov 2007 16:21

Of course if I had the cash, my would be an A340 with the "go faster" stripes. Way cooler:ok:

skywaytoheaven 12th Nov 2007 18:07

They should be made to plant trees to offset the Carbon emissions, get Bush to join in after his years of flying around in air force 1.:8

Soap Box Cowboy 13th Nov 2007 12:42

Hmmm B777 would do me, more airports to land in, plenty of room, can even load up a merc or two.

But bearing in mind the last time I saw this guy travel he had his new 747 and the A340 following behind, now he just needs the one plane :}

Would love to see what the interior layout will be like anyone got anyone on the inside to leak something like that ;)

The layout of the B747-400 is very practical and certainly not to the standard implied by Basil, I reckon that the 2 Airbuses will be the same.

Basil-Fawlty 13th Nov 2007 20:27

practical layout with mirrors

Actually Mutt, I totaly agree that the B747-400 is very practical layout, should you ever have the opportunity to fly the B747 SP that belongs to one of the Qat.....ar royal you will find "mirrors on the ceiling"!!!! but then again what do I know about airplane and sheikhs? I am only a hotel owner in Torquay!
