EK Interview results

Interview a few weeks ago, not heard a thing. Thought the assesment went well, but none of my refs have been checked. Any advice/input? Thanks!!

tbaylx 25th Sep 2007 03:53

It's not at all unusual for them to take several weeks to get back to you 2-6 weeks is normal as i understand it. It's a bit worrying that they haven't checked your references though, most of the guys that i know that got hired had theirs checked within 48 hours of their interview. Good luck though.

expatpilot4life 25th Sep 2007 04:02

Yeah, it worries me. Then again none of the guys i interviewed with had their refs checked yet.

what_goes_up 25th Sep 2007 04:59

Guys it's Ramadan here. Everything is a tad slower. But if you didn't hear within 6 weeks, give your Human Resources Specialist a call.

TwinJock 25th Sep 2007 05:30

Phone your EK administrator - sometimes things are a bit slow. If you did not make it, try again in 12 months!

Was informed by a colleague that only 11% of candidates interviewed in 2006 made the process! Very low indeed - Recruitment and EK is looking at ways to improve this figure!

I am sure that this number can be increased without lowering standards.

They are hiring 500 a year. So they only hired 50 pilots in 2006? makes no sense with all the a/c they ordered. I see no sense in applying again, if you give it your best shot then why waste the time again. It would be different if they gave you feedback like, you need to do better in the sim, etc.

linedriva 25th Sep 2007 06:39

I'm in a similar situation, however, I think that if they didn't want you, they would have told you by now. I have emailed recruiting and was told that they are waiting on replies from my referees.

5man 25th Sep 2007 07:05

Keep the hopes high. My ref was contacted within 48hours of the interview and the job offer in bout 2 weeks. With all the deliveries that EK is having one would have thought they must be pretty low on pilots. In my batch 50% made it through. So maybe they are not as desperate as ppl think.......

When did you interview? Does anyone know of refs not getting contacted for some time and still getting the nod? I wonder what they make their decisions on.

MR8 25th Sep 2007 07:28

expatpilot4life..

If EK is hiring 500 pilots per year, they might just interview around 5000.. Makes sense, no??

Anyway, the 500 per year is for the year to come, last years the intake was around 300 per year.

5000 per year is around 100 candidates per week... Impressive if they can do that.

Makes sense, curious how long one should wait before contacting recruiting.

typhoonpilot 25th Sep 2007 08:03

That 11% figure mentioned above is not correct. It may be for Direct Entry Captains only, but not for First Officer candidates. I believe the last figures officially mentioned were in the 30 to 40% range. That is below previous years when it was closer to 50%.

So do you know of anyone who didnt have their refs contacted right away and still got an offer?

bus canuck 25th Sep 2007 09:43

expatforlife,

Years ago, it was 6 weeks before my refs were contacted. I had given up when one of my refs called me to say he'd been sent an email. Offer letter followed shortly after that. Same thing as now, it was Ramadan.

It's a long time to wait, but I wouldn't panic before 6 weeks, especially if the other guys interviewed with you have not been contacted.

Good luck!

Join the club!!

I did my interview 2 weeks ago and the refs have not been contacted yet.
Wish you the very best of luck

what_goes_up 25th Sep 2007 11:10

Guys be patient. If it was a definite NO, you would know it already!

Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

BusTie 25th Sep 2007 11:49

The name of the game is to be patient.

(The followings are what I heard from other EK guys and they may or may not be rock-solid facts)

Once you made it through the last day.

They need to get the outcome of all your 3 days performance, once that is okay then;
They wait for the English Test result. (Montréal, ICAO)
They wait for the Medical Test result. (Blood test, x-ray..etc)
They will pre-check with UAE immigration to ensure you and your family actually “CAN” and will be able to acquire UAE residency visa based on the information you provided.
They also check with Interpol to make sure that you are not listed or wanted.
Then they see if they can match a course date with your time frame (depending how long notice period was needed for your current employer).
During all of these they also check with your Refs...

So 4-6 weeks that they tell you is kind of realistic .....for me was exactly one month.

As other guys mentioned, add the month of Ramadan to this. (Working hours are reduced by the government).

Good luck and I hope you hear soon.

Thanks guys, i didnt realize how much Ramadan can affect things. Its just that they told us they contact refs on sundays and dont be surprised if we hear within 48hrs from the refs. Guess we shall see!!

Shaboom 27th Sep 2007 03:51

Hey there,
As far as I know, EK is not obliged to select a specific number of candidates per batch; they may take all candidates in one group and none in another. All depends on whether they fit the profile they're looking for. As for calling references, mine were called a few hours after the interview, and others were called up to two weeks later. Add the 'Ramadan factor' in, and you shouldn't worry about not receiving any news yet.
Regardless, I wish you all the best. Good Luck!:ok:

propjet72 29th Sep 2007 02:13

I am not trying to beat down anyone.
I interviewed in june with a group of 9 pilots.
5 made it trough the sim.
Everybody did great during the interviews and assesments.
The least experienced and least outgoing one is the only guy who had his references checked and got an offer.
I know I did my best and thought I did great, but my references were never checked and I got a "No thank you" a month later with no explanation.
I don't know of anyone who had his references not checked and got the job. But then I may be wrong.

Best of luck if they haven't called yet, but don't keep your hopes too high.

I don't think that most of the hiring department is muslim and doing ramadan though.
