Changes to FAA medical in Dubai

INFORMATION FOR PILOTS
IMPORTANT CHANGES to FAA PILOT MEDICAL CERTIFICATION

The FAA now allows pilots to complete their medical history on-line. The first part of the form 8500-8 can be completed by the pilot prior to the appointment with the AME. The pilot gets a confirmation number and the AME uses it to access the on-line form completed by the pilot before completing the AME section and generating the medical certificate. See notes below from the FAA website.

FAA MedXPress is a web application used for the electronic submission, via the internet, of FAA Form 8500-8 applicant information (Items 1 – 20). All that is required for airmen to participate in FAA MedXPress is a valid E-mail address and the creation of an FAA MedXPress account. FAA MedXPress is another FAA initiative toward making the Aerospace Medical Certification Division (AMCD) paperless and is intended to speed-up the processing of an Airman’s request for certification and to shorten the applicant’s office visit with the AME. The Aerospace Medical Certification Division strongly encourages AMEs to participate in this new FAA application.

Applicants interested in FAA MedXPress should be directed to the FAA MedXPress website at: https://medxpress.faa.gov/

looks good to me

I am due an FAA 6 mthly, (class 1) in Dubai very soon.
JAA and GCAA are now 12 mth so a bit of a bummer, but my visit should be soon, lets see how it all pans out.

The only snag was the print out of the form, did not work.

OK, I'll be in touch

I'll be in touch when the password comes in the next few days. Even though the system is fully computerised they still have to snail mail the actual password to me. It's a federal thing.

the password as AME I assume

My password as a user, was instantanious, or words to that effect.!!!!!

new system

As it's a new system, they haven't gotten away from paper completely. Even though I am registered as a Senior AME and even though I am the US Consulate doctor they still have to verify me and send me a password on paper before they let me certify you and use the on-line system.

I am told it will be here in the next few days.

Good information. FWIW, I logged on the site, got emailed a temporary password, logged back on, changed to a new password, and submitted and saved the form. Took about twenty minutes total. :)

I tried it

I tried it from the pilot's point of view.... It's really easy. All done in 20 mins as you say, though I have let my PPL lapse as there's not much room for us little guys out here.

The password for the doctor part was sent in the conventional mail to me. Then I had to activate it so I can certify you guys. Seems to be working well.
