Gulf Air staff suspended

Taken from today's GDN.

MANAMA: Eight Gulf Air employees, that included Bahrainis and expatriates, have been suspended and referred to the Public Prosecution over fraud and embezzlement charges, sources told our sister paper Akhbar Al Khaleej last night.

Any idea who or what roles these individuals had? Would it be safe to assume the eight worked in the pink palace? :hmm:

Al Fakhem Snr. 22nd Sep 2007 09:04

About time....Is LS included in the lot?

I would suspect most would be from procurement, must be a follow-up on the MK affair.

Capt Hair Y Balls 22nd Sep 2007 15:00

Anyone care to name and shame? Would be interesting to know who the culprits are.

Procurement! haha We all know how that department works!! But your probably right. According to GF careers website, theyre looking for a VP of procurement :}

Main culprits

How about the Housing department? Do you think they finally found them guilty? Or Airport Services and all the 'under the table' dealings for excess baggage and upgrades??:D

pilot A380 24th Sep 2007 09:04

Staff in airport services not deal under the table :=

left_to_first_class 24th Sep 2007 09:16

Maybe staff in Oman don't deal under the table but the Bahrain airport services lot do.

On the front page of the GDN it says four GF staff to be charged.
Anyone have more details?

pilot A380 24th Sep 2007 09:57

I'm sure that there is such a happening at the airport in Bahrain, Muscat

Al Fakhem Snr. 24th Sep 2007 10:10

Wether it is ground services or procurement this is a problem endemic to Gulf air.

Procurement deal with larger amounts and I am sure they do the same there.

Suddenly though all these corruption scandals and I am surprised that no one knew of them before? or did they?

Therefore anyone involved in Finance and governance should be shown the door, because no action in this regard is equal to action, which means that they all actively participated.

And I mean everyone, in case you could not read above. Good to read that finally some Bahrainis are taking over key posts in HR and other places.

Names please...

Lee! Suck on this mate!

Good to read that finally some Bahrainis are taking over key posts in HR and other places.
Yeah, really qualified ones for the positions too.....

Bahraini, Ahmed Al Banna is leaving his current post as Labour Ministry Assistant Under-Secretary for Training to become Gulf Air's vice-president human resources.
I'm sure he has more to offer than nationality, surely ;)

Krinkle 24th Sep 2007 12:30

Al Banna was in charge of Bahrain' National Employment Project (NEP) - a two year plan to get Bahrainis into work and was widely regarded as having done an excellent job.

Most people that I know can't believe he is going to Gulf Air because they anticipated he would turn up as a senior government minister before too long. I'd imagine thatthe fact they have put him in HR is due to his knowledge of labour issues and that you can take from that there will be a fair bit of traffic in and out the airline during his tenure.

In short - if you ever meet the guy, and I'm neither family, friend or acquaitance having just met him professionally once or twice, you will wonder what the hell he is doing at GA. You're lucky to have him!

Che Guevara 24th Sep 2007 13:59

Thanks for opinion Krinkle; if this is the case then we are lucky to have him on board. Of course, father time will tell all, either way.
Good luck to him!

Just another day at the palace. More firings and more resignations. The observation that there were many that knew who did nothing is far worse than those who did the stealing is spot on. Everyone should be removed from the departments who are at fault. Abrupt and callous yes...but how else do you get to start fresh? If its not legal....don't do it!! New catchy slogan.
Wake up we are the joke of the Middle East and Europe. Branding til the last breath will not help unless a complete overhall is performed. Not only do the staff want to see substantial changes but our pax do as well.

On the brighter side. Not as hard to find a parking spot before a flight at HQ. The lot is half empty at the best of times.
Can anyone start the count of how many VP's it takes to run an airline of under 30 AC's? Seems to be a new one every week.

Perhaps they tapped the new VPHR to overhaul the HR department. It sure needs it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rip it apart, cut it right down (it is a HUGE dept), reorganize it.........

EagleY 24th Sep 2007 16:35

The four were charged with embezzlement and the case is not related to the Jeddah eight.

seems like allot of people milked gulf air to death and now it's time for the remaining heads to roll.

gulfair_sexy 25th Sep 2007 23:52

how about the others......... capt salimi , HESH , ex vpo and A.alansari ............they still around....?

TZZ 26th Sep 2007 05:47

i think they all are still present.
