Airbus to Boeing to Airbus

Hi there,
Anyone know if having applied for Airbus, been given Boeing, is it possible to change from Boeing to Airbus when Airbus opens up? Or not easy to switch over once signed up?
Thanks for any feedback.

Would anyone be kind enough to share info about the Cargo operation?

Thanks

when I joined 6 years ago, several Boeing guys were hired for A320.....
Many 320 pilots were transferred to 787
However nowadays it seems very rare to make the jump between Boeing and Airbus

747 is the only dedicated cargo fleet. A330 and B777 operate a mix of cargo/pax flights on their rosters, but not all crews are qualified to fly cargo.

Most cargo trips are long and can involve up to 13 days away from home base. There's lots of deadheading too.

Flywingwise it's usually more relaxed as the operation doesn't have all the formalities related to passenger transport.

Some people like it, others don't. It's personal.

any ideas what entails? How long, how many questions, what type of questions?
many thanks

I got the same. No idea about the questions yet since I haven't done it. Please keep me posted if you do it in the near future :)

Hi,

I did a phone interview last February. It was supposed to be a 15 minutes SKYPE interview, but for some reason they said they cannot connect. So, they phoned me up minutes later of the appointed time.
Anyway, the caller was a Captain as he introduced himself. And he ask me to tell something about myself. And then, few tech questions like purpose of a sweptback wing, advantage of having it. And finally, what aircraft do you like among the Qatar fleet?
Im not sure about the reason of the skype interview, but I think it has something to do with being able to at least converse in plain and simple english. Good Comprehension and delivery.

A week after the phonecall, I got an email to setup the dates for the Doha assessment.

Can someone help with few questions plssss

1- are the layovers mainly 24h ones?
2- can we decide between allowance or company accommodation if we single?
3- what are the options of company accommodation if we are not married no family Boeing FO?
4- curfew in all accommodation options?
5-how easy is to go out with girls in doha or on layovers?

Family Details

The form doesnt mention PETS, has anyone relocated to Doha with their Family Pet? Is their a Pet Allowance included in our move? Perhaps if allocated Staff Accommodation, this is where I need to also mention extension of Fur Family....?

Anyone been through this procedure of bringing Family Pets with? I would appreciate your info.

Thank you.

I’m not the best to answer this, as I don’t have a pet here but it is not uncommon.
The real issue is many company accommodations don’t allow pets and they don’t seem to make promises in that area. Once you get a pet friendly accommodation- company or otherwise I think it is not a huge deal to bring the pet, and
I have seen staff traveling with pets on non revenue tickets

1 yes more or less
2 probably not initially...either assigned company accommodation or not and changing process has been source of some contention....
3. There are quite a few different locations...some much better than others and the word option is used lightly, see above
4there is no curfew for pilots....cabin crew all of whom live in company accommodation do have 4 am curfew
5..like any other country more or less.........biggest thing I see different between Etihad and Qatar is crew do less together, Qatar has nice friendly crew but so many rules they don’t trust each other....little things like smoking can lead to termination so it is rarity for them to hang out together on overnights.....to be fair I can’t remember last time I saw a crew of 20 Deltoids having dinner together either.

Airbus deliveries

Any informations when will they continue to receive new aircrafts from Airbus (320NEO,350)? I heard a rumor about end of this year, but not sure if it is true or not...

1 - Yes, most are between 22 and 27h. You have a few around 16-18h and some with 36-48-72h. Depends on the fleet/destination.
2 - Initially you will be allocated into company accomodation. Once you're in Doha you go to the Housing Department and request to receive the allowance, but there's a big queue for that at the moment with almost 400 people waiting. Don't expect it to happen in less than 2 years.
3 - You can expect most likely Ain Khalid Gate Compound, but some people are sent to Barwa, Al Kaabi or Holiday Villa as well. You can expect a flat with 2 or 3 bedrooms if single and no kids.
4 - There is no curfew for pilots. Only for cabin crew (4am).
5 - I know some people who are quite happy with their life as single guys in Doha. You just need to know where to go and you'll have fun and find some girls. On layovers it's less common to find cabin crew willing to hang out, but it does happen too.

No pet allowance provided by Qatar Airways. You have to do and pay things by yourself. In order to bring your pet you'll need an import permit from the Animal Resources Department.
There are some veterinary clinics in Doha that provide import services. You can contact them to help with the paperwork.

A321neos are supposed to start coming this year. I believe there are also another 2 A350-900 from LATAM to come and more A350-1000s are also expected.

Hopefully more pilots still in the holding pool will get joining dates soon.

ECHUQ 19th Mar 2019 17:13

Cool, thanks for the info.

if anyone knows where to find info about the interview process?

APU_inop 19th Mar 2019 23:28

latestpilotjobs has a good database for preparing the ATPL-test and standard HR-questions however they are not the same as what you will encounter during the assessment, they're merely a heads up on what to expect nonetheless very useful
