EK Airbus or Boeing?
 
Which fleet? that is the question.

(now before some of you coming back with....oh search the site there are so many thread on the issue) let me inform you that I had done that and I am looking for fresh and up to date information.

Destinations better on 330 or 777?
Does 330 do long trips?
330 pilots fly 340s as well?
is it true they are grounding 330s by the end of the year?
if you had a choice all over again, which one would you pick?

-Variety of destinations better on Boeing.
-Depends what you mean long trips. If you mean layovers, yes they do plenty
-most 330 pilots fly 340 as well (some choose not to)
- do you honestly think ek can afford to ground 30 aircraft in 4 months time? We were supposed to release 4 A330s this year. They are still here and will probably remain until a replacement type arrives. I would bet on A330-300s, until the A350 finally arrives. Standby for an announcement at the Dubai Airshow this winter
-I'm on the bus. If I had a choice all over again, I would choose the bus.
-Finally, I don't know why you're asking. You have no say in fleet choice. The company decides that according to its needs.

If you like Europe... Boeing is better.
If you like Africa... Airbus is better.
If you don't like the Middle East and SubContinent... both go there regardless.
Airbus pilots sleep in their own bed more often than Boeing pilots.
So if you're single it's better on Boeing, if married suggest Airbus.

But then again, like Hook said, you don't get a choice so there
no point in picking. And a rule of thumb, never pick a fleet based on where it flies to. What's 330 today might be 777 tomorrow and 380 next year.

In terms of distance, Auckland and Christchurch (via Melbourne and Sydney respectively).
In terms of time away from base, the honour is shared with Accra/Abidjan!

Backwater - Not on the 330. That is the 340 you are talking about.

Longest flight on the 330 i'm guessing Hong Kong for an overnight (or Dhaka turn around). Longest Layover - either 4 days Seychelles, or Mon to Fri Milan.

You don't normally get a choice, but if there are AB and B courses runing at the same time with slots available you will get to choose if there are no other restictions. eg. if you have a320 experience you may be placed on a short A330 course rather than an extended 777 course.

But back to the question: Do not pick your aircraft choice by destinations! They change regularly, and will surely change again when the A380 arrives and the a350 or whatever comes next. With rapid expansion comes rapid change, very little stays the same in EK for very long.
In the long term, no fleet is better than the other. They both are great aircraft, with good points and bad, and good destination and bad, also good instructors and unfortunately bad.

Most pilots are egocentric and want to think that they have the best of everything and so will talk themselves into believing their aircraft is better than their poor cousins flying that other horrible piece of junk. When you have a choice between modern wide body aircraft then there is not much difference once you learn how to operate it.

You are not given a choice directly. However, as both fleets recruit, just delay your arrival suiting to a course for the aircraft you prefer, they're so short of pilots so they accomodate to it. If you missed out on the 777, after 3 years you can choose the upgrade on it via the long way (transit to 777 as fo, then upgrade after 6 months). For the fast trackers (18mths) this works even without passing through the right hand seat. Busskippers can apply for a transition to the 777 aswell, after 3 years, just bear in mind that they will go without flight and productivity pay for 3 months, so they will pay for it.
For the 777 guys who really, really want a wobbly table experience, they'll have to wait for their turn onto the flying pig, meaning some 5 years for skippers, fo's wouldn't want to give up their upgrade slot for a table.

GMDS - 3 years?? There're guys who are but a year since upgrade doing 777 conversion.....
