Emirates and women pilots ?

Possibly a dumb question but Emirates doesn't take women pilots, does it ?

BYMONEK 26th Sep 2004 22:15

Correct..........they don't. But they may well do so when they join the modern world........in about 100 years from now!

goaround7 28th Sep 2004 12:58

Thanks. Makes me almost glad to be a white male. White females overlooked on grounds of sex by white male Chief Pilots and Arab countries, and by African airlines for not being black...

kumul1 28th Sep 2004 13:29

This thread is just begging to deteriorate with childish comments like this. I think it's time for that padlock Mr moderator.

flybystring 28th Sep 2004 13:53

Yes they do have girl pilots, they are the ones who call in sick if its raining in india/asia, its snowing in Europe and its windy just about anywhere, not to mention if the MSA is above sea level.

:O

goaround7 1st Oct 2004 19:12

Kumul1,

If you think that the difficulties and prejudice that female pilots still face are childish then you are the one who should be locked up. Nor can any real human being condone the way women are treated in extreme muslim countries. And I'm well aware what it means to host the two holy cities so don't think I don't know anything about Islam or the Koran.

And for the record, just so you don't think that my complaint is another reason to deride women, I am male and I've worked in Saudi and Africa so I know that I'm talking about, unlike you obviously.

Flybystring - your ridiculous post is not even worth a reply.

kumul1 2nd Oct 2004 04:45

Gee G/A 7 I must have touched a nerve there.

No. I do not find the difficulties and prejudices that female pilots face are childish. I think they are doing a great job to try and conquer this male dominated job. It's a tough struggle but they are getting there.

What I do find childish is reference to colour, religion and race which has the potential to touch other nerves thereby deteriorating this thread.

Oh and by the way I am African and live in the Middle east.

goaround7.

You seem to be a bitter man that is just looking to promote a fight here on the PPRUNE.

If you knew you were asking a dumb question and just trying to promote an arguement here by saying "Makes me almost glad to be a white male. White females overlooked on grounds of sex by white male Chief Pilots and Arab countries, and by African airlines for not being black..."

You need to stop being bitter that Emirates did not hire you.

Humble opinion here from me.

goaround7 2nd Oct 2004 15:55

Apologies Kumul - misinterpreted you there. Can see why you'd be touchy too. I think we all just wish it were an even playing field.

Safari Goat - not my intention to start a fight. Just checking. Never applied for Emirates although I hear it's a great job if you fly Fixed Wing (which I don't).

dicksynormous 2nd Oct 2004 22:54

safari goat,

why is it people like you always asume critics of the sand pit are failed applicants to ek. its not that difficult to pass the interview.bit of a myth old bean.

you are indeed an mbuzi.

Safari Goat 3rd Oct 2004 09:58

No worries Goaround7, seemed as though you were just stiring the pot. Sorry......

See ya mate..... Take care....................

knotaloud 3rd Oct 2004 10:53

Qatar Airways has female pilots.

flybystring 3rd Oct 2004 17:07

The smiley indicated it was ironic and not meant to be sensible. For got sakes whats up with pilots these days no sense of humor !

goaround7 27th Aug 2005 15:00

3 women pilots at Emirates ?

Another rumour slipped through a worm hole in space from the future when Emirates exits the Middle Ages or long awaited liberation ?

goaround7 28th Aug 2005 14:08

Rumour circulating that three women have been accepted as pilots in Emirates.

Does anyone know anything or still just wishful thinking by our female colleagues ?

Payscale 28th Aug 2005 17:55

Two female National Cadets are in the pipeline. So girls get those applications updated. Maybe...just maybe...they will open for expat women, and you dont want to be left out, just because you forgot to update.

Good luck. I have always enjoyed flying with female FOs, and hope to welcome you in the future.

Good luck :O

MTOW 29th Aug 2005 07:53

I think they'll take non-National female pilots in the forseeable future, not because they necessarily want to, but because they'll have to - for want of sufficient suitable male applicants. That's if any women will accept the job.

goaround7 19th Sep 2005 15:43

Is there any flexibility or rationality in the picture eg.

1) are they starting to consider women for certain (non hard line) destinations eg. Dubai - South Africa ?

2) why don't they have women anyway ? is it, as we all assume that flying into places like Saudi it would undermine the egos of the fair minded, hard working, open minded Saudi males ?

3) what is the real legal position ?

Believe Brother 19th Sep 2005 16:41

Hey Payscale, I'm sure you didn't mean it to sound condescending (and maybe it is because you haven't); however, flying with female captains is good too!

Willie Everlearn 20th Sep 2005 10:58

A FEMALE colleague of mine with 1000 hours RHS A330 and a bunch of RHS L1011 time has been interviewed by EK.
Her "processing" went well and she has been accepted by EK as a potential F/O.
However, and unofficiallly, she was further informed, not to expect an offer until the first local female had been hired.

Make sense to anyone???
