Wake Up Call

Government of Abu Dhabi, your flagship ETIHAD is on an ill fated track.

It has been hijacked by an Australian show master who has bullsh*tted his way in accompanied by a massive protective layer of incompetent and obscenely overpaid (150,000 Dhs/month) buddies.

Gone is the spirit and enthusiasm of a dynamic and cosmopolitan 21st century team that has given so much to make ETIHAD the world's leading new airline in a very short time.

Safety audits of high international standards that many other big established airlines are still seeking to achieve have been successfully passed.

Competence and teamwork is now suffocated by politics, mistrust, and a colonial management style of fear.

Working morale is at an all time low. In each and every department we have now been imposed one of these superfluous so called Executive Vice Presidents whose only task is to ensure that nobody dares to criticize his system.

There is no respect for people anymore, even the office boys are treated like sh**.

Many people want to leave.

Would they really be qualified to do this challenging job? They are coming from static airlines with structures of the past. Their records are average at best and that is the performance they have shown up to now.

They never achieved anything close to what ETIHAD had reached in the short time before they arrived.

Unfortunately, you have now exactly the type of management that you wanted to get rid of when you decided to begin ETIHAD.

The good professionals will be gone anyway as the market is booming and those who wanted to come will stay away.

Government of Abu Dhabi, how far will you let this go? Don't wait too long!

Who is writing this to you?

We are a group of honest employees working hard in ETIHAD since its conception to make ETIHAD one of the world's leading airlines. We are deeply concerned about the recent developments in our company.

:D Yep all true!

tundra runner 12th Feb 2007 18:38

Well written and very true!!

I hope someone in the right position gets this message and listens.

:D

Well, everyone at GF had had enough of him ... so now it's your turn.

His arrogance is amazing, his manners appalling and his ego quite unbelievable.

Although a number of senior managers have followed him to Abu Dhabi there are many more who would not under any circumstances work for him again.

The climate of fear in Bahrain has shifted across the water.

He will no doubt discover in his own time that management by fear and intimidation does not work in the long term.

jollyikarus 12th Feb 2007 21:56

Employees for ETIHAD,

whilst your remarks and comments may be well founded and probably correct, did you ever consider that, by revealing that you are a group of those who got ETIHAD going from the beginning, you now risk to be the very next on the list to get the bullet?
It is almost certain that the Belle Etage is monitoring what is posted here and elsewhere, and if that man and his bunch are what many claim them to be, the easiest for them would be to sort out all those who have been there for more than three years - and probably get away with it, too!

You are perfectly right, theoretically, ETIHAD has (or had???) an enormous potential and still some very dedicated and professional people - but not all throughout the higher ranks, a problem lots of other airlines are facing, too.
Do the Sheikhs, above all Sheikh Kalifa, realize this?
But then again.......as most things in the Gulf...it is all very political!

Don't despair and concentrate on your job, hopefully well done as always!

Cheers

Ikarus ;-)

Is it not still a little early to condem him and his team already?

I think we must remember that not everyone that has gone was quite a nice and honest as you suggest!

This bit " Competence and teamwork is now suffocated by politics, mistrust, and a colonial management style of fear." has been within Etihad since day 1 in some departments, maybe not colonial, but there have been other groups ruling by fear, so lets not get too carried away.

Lets judge Hogan after he has been here a while.

ruby tuesday 13th Feb 2007 03:48

This just sounds so similar to the bunch over in Doha - rule by fear etc etc...
Well done to the staff - those in the Gulf must realize that good staff are the best asset any airline can have - and should respect them accordingly...but then thats a dream I guess...

Mustapha Rex 13th Feb 2007 05:27

It sounds like you lot are worse off now that you were before maties....:}

Well, I can see PW preparing the 24/20's for several of you once he finds out who this "dedicated" team of employees is.

Call me old fashioned or what but I firmly believe that if you start off on the bad foot you never rise up again!

I see planes, brand new et all, filthy inside, crew lost in the midst of their unhappiness, ground services as helpfull as a shot in one's foot or head and adds and publicity that doesn't match. All of this tells me that the whole thing is lopsided. The best thing that coule ever happen is for it to be disbanded and let the others that are certainly more professional carry out the good work they've been doing so far.

I see a couple more "obscenely overpaid buddies" have joined EY's ranks today:{

More Buddies

Too many Chiefs and not enough money to pay the Indians!

Time to pack

Employees at Etihad,
Well it does not take a genius to know who you are. You had your chance. Our TC got from bad to worse. With the demise of the Puppet Master all the Dolls are getting nervous. We the silent majority welcome the changes and the New Team. :D

f4212 13th Feb 2007 15:40

Dear self appointed....voice of silent majority

...We the silent majority welcome the changes and the New Team.[
puppet-master,
What you say does not 'constitute' the majority opinion. Speak only for yourself will ya.:=

fractional 13th Feb 2007 16:53

Give the new Master 1 year of life at helm and then judge. If he is no good, well we will say it then. Itīll be around SEP or OCT. If he doesn't make it, well tough luck, he'll be booted out along with the team and another chapter will start and so on. The Government must try it until they find a suitable person rather then stay with the bad we know.
It sounds bad times for those who were untouchable, arrogant and above absolutely useless. Those are now trickling out and new ones are coming in. What goes around comes around... There will be those making "facelifts or suitably waving now a different flag" after those much heralded management salary hikes. Time will tell...
The problem here is the competent, proficient, dedicated EY/ETD employee still with the company. Those guys are once again being forgotten. Many left, many are still leaving and some have to stay because they have nowhere to go.
Having just written that, I wish this EY/ETD Management focus on the human resources first (Housing pls) and use (NOT abuse) them rationally and competently on the material resources to make it a profitable and well managed airline where the employee feels he/she can contribute for its success. Money should not be a problem.
For those who spent their time at EY/ETD polluting others' fresh air, wasting office space, and making others feel miserable and leave, and if some of those are the Employees for ETIHAD, well good luck in your new lives. For those still with the company, you either "reset your brain systems or start packing" otherwise you won't last long.

tundra runner 13th Feb 2007 18:48

For those still with the company, you either "reset your brain systems or start packing" otherwise you won't last long.
This is true however the new executive management has come with a master plan already constructed before they had even begun. "Innocent" will be replaced by others who have been picked long ago. The new executive management is slowly beginning the placement of those people in their various departments.

The company is being run right now by prehaps one of the best salesman in a long while. He just sells a pretty picture whenever needed and has no mind to do the opposite the next week, next month. Just ask all the people of his previous venues.

He is just selling empty promises for his own gain.

I am sure he would sell out his on mother if there was some gain in it for him.

puppet-master 13th Feb 2007 19:28

Just Ask

f4212,
. Don't go to the office and ask the Hangover Chiefs and Deputies. Go to OCC and ask the Real pilots the real work force. We had WB, CC for a few weeks, then HW. Over 3 years of ????????? Now lets give JH a fair chance. Maybe he should clean out some of the dead wood employees. Flight OPS has plenty from the Bald Eagle to Bean Pole or the Black Mamba. AHHH I can smell a breath of fresh air.:ok:

Gold Falcon 14th Feb 2007 07:28

To be frank, 3 years of :

1. Achievements

2. Improvements

3. Dissapointments

4. Frustrations

5. Anticipations

6. Expectations

7. Rejections

Isn't it part & parcel of an expanding corporation?
Don't we achieved as much as we also failed?
Everybody has part to play to ensure the balance, and stop placing blame. It is totally counter productive.

18Holes 14th Feb 2007 07:48

puppet-master, would you recommend to apply for Air China? :ooh:

puppet-master 14th Feb 2007 12:49

Drink

18Holes send me a PM. We can meet for a drink.

fractional 14th Feb 2007 17:11

Don't we achieve as much as we also failed? Everybody has part to play to ensure the balance, and stop placing blame. It is totally counter productive.
We should NOT place blame randomly but we achieve and fail individually because we (most of the times) have to fend for ourselves and we do NOT have at hand advisors and associates, and data these guys have.
I only agree with part of your statement but with a little enhancement:
Everybody (???) has a part to play to ensure the balance . Everybody? A company fails when its management fails and this leads to the employees' failure too. If a company has a good management team, well screened, tested, competent and proficient employees won't fail in general terms. Statistics say so. Those employees not fulfilling the criteria will be left behind accusing the management of bad and ill-intended practices.
EY had it all and still HAS. They started without the proper "foundations" because the Board or its representative elected to recruit friends and acquaintances, most from dubious and untested backgrounds and with the objective of achieving the unachievable. Many will say that the same is happening now. Maybe! By this Fall things may indicate the direction they are going. However, it could not continue as it was.
The Board knew beforehand the creation of EY would certainly mean AUH's departure from GF and the eviction of GT and therefore that gap would have to be filled almost immediately. This meant buying or leasing aircraft which meant a poor service for a starter with the likes and aims of EY, expanding infra-structures, recruiting hundreds of staff, house them, etc., otherwise it would become a nightmare. And it happened. The others' mistakes should not be EY's; Wouldn't an outsourced management from the very beginning be the right choice to start with?
EK started slowly and it was only 5 years later when they decided to expand into what is perceived nowadays to be a monster out of control. Despite all it is said EK is still a company to work for in the Gulf. The problems they are having are problems they created themselves recently because of a big oversight in management strategies. QR started badly, but 10 years ago they revamped everything for the much better. Unfortunately the good path lasted barely 1 or 2 years with the results we see. Safety was definitely bypassed by other (personal) goals. Will Air Arabia and Jazeera be different or more recently RAK Airways? Time will tell.
The trend is to spend the least possible with an individual employee and maximise his/her output along with that of the fleet to increase profits; and the CFO, the CEO and the Board of Directors will live happily ever after...
A company is always a good company to work for and fly with when management associates, wisely, safety and profitability with all the strings attached to that.

But one thing I have to take my hats off - they still survive in that porta cabin. I didn't believe my eyes when I saw it the first time.
If you think your apartment sucks, think again mate.....
